Only 4 stars for two reasons....First, the blade edge did not align to the center of the anvil platform, so I had to crimp and force the metal housing in a vice to make it align properly....Secondly, on holding the pruners up to a light, I noticed the blade's sharpened edge was unevenly sharpened leaving gaps where the blade should have met the anvil platform flush all the way from the base to the tip, so I had to use a metal file to bring down the two high areas, one near the center, the other at the outer tip Now I own a first rate pair of pruning clippers and am totally satisfied with their performance....What puzzles me is why Fiskers doesn't have a better Quality Control staff....These clippers should have been pulled from the production line and never been sent out to market....That's my opinion...Get with it Fiskers! ... show more

i liked grip and size, but not the blade and anvil which would not stay lined - up making cutting awkward. looseness in anvil and blade is problem. I’ll use it, not worth spending time to return it.

This is an anvil cutter, where one half of the jaw is a cutting edge, while the other half is a flat surface against which the blade does the cutting. This particular design mounts the anvil by a pivot connected to its jaw. The pivot is in the center of the movable anvil piece. I recently purchased these Fiskars Power-Lever pruners from Amazon. I use them mostly for cutting the tree limbs up to 3/4 inches in width of a bunch of dying pine trees that I have. Some of the branches are hard as a rock dead ones and some are softer live ones. They work well on both. They perform equally well on regular lighter duty pruning such as bushes and roses. I have been using this design for over 30 years and despite some of the reviews you may have read here, they are as well made as ever. This is my 3rd pair and they have literally lasted 10 years even under my demanding use. I've tried others which are generally more expensive with different designs but I have always been disappointed either with their uncomfortable design or lack of leverage. I've finally quit looking and just buy these when they go on sale. Likes: Comfortable design in your hand. Cushioned grips and very importantly, great leverage and a sharp long lasting blade. And by the way, did you see they have a lifetime guarantee? I actually used it once when one of the pairs I had developed a problem (really due to my hard use). It was an online submission and they simply requested a picture. Ten days later, a new pair! And last but not least the price, very economical for the quality and how long they last. Dislikes: Really only one. Sometimes the locking lever flips up and locks during use. You just have to push it back down with your thumb as you are using them and continue on. Not a deal breaker by any means. NOT a dislike but just use a little WD-40 on them now and then and they will continue to perform like new. Conclusion: Watch Amazon for a low price and buy it! Works exactly as described. I bought it to cut down corn plants that were getting out of control. These worked well on the thicker stalks. I can’t speak to how they will hold up, but if they are like other Fiskars products, I don’t anticipate any issues.
