  • Cheap looking, false alarms, nowhere close to Nest quality
Style: Battery
What a sad, embarrassing replacement of Nest! Looks nothing like the Nest detectors, ridiculous false alarms, central button doesn't work, battery door doesn't close and jiggles, connection dropped two times before finally it got through, then it stopped again, the sound is pathetic, looks cheap and very much like older detectors from the 90s. You have to download their app, open an account via email, get through ridiculous requirements of address, names, surprised they didn't ask for your bank account, finally what supposed to be a simple, intuitive replacement of Nest, you end up with a new app, a new account with this company, and a link to Google home ( which you have to download and set up, you cannot add this to Nest app, where you have all the other products) Google destroyed probably the best safe protect products on the market, and came out with a bunch of pathetic expensive cameras that miss most of the important recordings, and the only offer for replacement of the amazing Nest detectors are these trash first alert ones, which are expensive because Nest owners have no other options. Shame on you, Google, not only you took over and ruined a company that put quality and smart devices out there, you charge a lot for miserable products and you do not stand up for what you put out there, low quality, ridiculous prices and horrible customer service. Whoever owned Nest should get back together, go to the drawing board and come back with new Nest products that were an image of excellence and quality. ... show more

  • They replace the Nest But they're missing a nightlight
Style: Hardwired
I bought these as my existing Nests were 10 years old and the app told me they needed to be replaced. I guess Nest no longer makes smokes. These were designed to pretty much plug in direct to the nest wiring harness. The Nest I had were hardwired in with a battery backup. That part of it work fine although these aren't as nice as the Nest The Nest had a Nightlight embedded in them which was very helpful. But overall they're fine. Nothing wrong with using these to replace what you've got. I'd buy them again. BTW Smoke detectors don't last forever. I'm in the real estate business. I go into a lot of houses where the smoke detectors look 20 years old. They should be replaced every 5-7 years. Get on it people p51 ... show more

  • Really missing the path/night light in the Nest model
Style: Battery
I had to replace 3 Nest Protect Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectors since they were 10 years old. First Alert is now the replaacement model. They integrated well with the other Nest detectors I have. The units are not the same quality of materials but are ok. The one feature missing is the motion-activated path/night light that was in the Nest detectors. Not sure why they choses not to include it but for me it's a big miss. ... show more

  • Frustrating Downgrade from Nest Protect – Why Did Google Make This Worse?
Style: Battery
Let me start by saying, I was a huge fan of my old Nest Protect smoke and CO alarm. It served me loyally for a decade, always reliable and almost a little too smart for its own good. When it finally nudged me to upgrade, I figured this new First Alert SC5 "Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm"—especially since it's pitched as compatible—would keep that peace of mind going. But wow, was I wrong on that. The first thing I noticed is the style: side-by-side, this new First Alert device just looks plain clunky next to the smooth, modern Nest Protect that's been a familiar face in my home. In the attached photo, you can see what I mean—the new alarm is bulkier, with a glowing blue ring that honestly feels more sci-fi than homey. Setting it up threw me for a loop, too. It was far less intuitive, didn’t pair as easily, and generally left me wishing I had my old friend back. I had to read the instructions twice, and for someone who usually breezes through tech installs, that’s saying something! But here’s the kicker—this alarm costs way more, but seems to do a whole lot less. All the features I loved (smooth app integration, ease of testing, helpful heads-up notifications) feel stripped down or just awkward to use here. You’d think for the price, it’d offer an upgrade, but honestly, calling it a “sidegrade” would be generous. Even the "precision detection technology" is marketed as an improvement, yet I can't say it feels any better than my Nest ever did. I half-expected it to start making me coffee in the morning for this price. My advice? Don’t buy into the hype just because Google nudges you with compatibility talk. If you’re in the market, a $30 plain old detector probably does the same job (minus the pretty lights) without any of this frustration. Google used to say “don’t be evil,” but pushing people towards a more expensive, less functional product has me wondering if they remember their own slogan. ... show more

  • First alert smoke detector
Style: Battery
Delivery was delayed by 2 days but mostly due to holiday season/Thanksgiving. So I would say, based on that, it was delivered on time. First alert smoke detector seems to be a great product. Set up was easy. Works fine with Google home. Compatible with nest smoke detector, so no need to change the ceiling plate. Overall great product for money. I still miss Nest smoke detector look, but that's okay. ... show more
