The media could not be loaded. I am going to ask you to trust me in that the attached video was not staged. The first ferro rod recieved roughly 13 passes of a Mora 511 that was freshly ground to a 90° angle on the back of the spine. The second one as you saw only recieved one. Both are broken and should still be usable. However, the quality of the ferrocerium used in these rods is inferior to others on the market. I used a Mora Garberg, to give it its best chance at producing sparks, and it failed miserably. So why am I writing this review? Simple, because when we take young people out in the woods we want them to feel encouraged. When we use equipment that doesn't work, we cause frustration and discourage them. Starting a fire is a very empowering skill. But giving a child a inferior equipment to start a fire, is going to do nothing but frustrate them and discourage them and their ability. I recommend looking elsewhere when looking for a ferro rod to purchase. The ferro rod that I used in this video was a $10 combo pack on Amazon. It had no handle and no thrills.
