Description

The Iso paddles from FINIS are strapless paddles designed to isolate specific muscle groups, develop proper hand position, and heighten stroke awareness. The FINIS Iso paddles are uniquely designed to create an imbalance in the catch phase of a stroke, which forces swimmers to apply more pressure on either side of the paddle in order to maintain a proper stroke. The variance encourages swimmers to pay increased attention to hand position in the water, keeping it level and consistent throughout the catch and pull of each stroke. Using the edge on the inside allows swimmers to isolate and engage the pectoral, bicep and deltoid muscles. Using the edge on the outside (grey on left, yellow on right) allows swimmers to isolate and engage the triceps and trapezius muscles (recommended for backstroke and freestyle). Using the edge on the inside (yellow on left, grey on right) allows swimmers to isolate and engage the pectoral, bicep and deltoid muscles (recommended for butterfly and breaststroke).

It took me a few tries to figure out how to put my hand in these, but once I got it dialed in, I have been very pleased with them. My favorite feature is the fact that there is the one-piece design. So many paddles I've used in the past have a little rubber strap that inevitably starts to rot and fall apart. This paddle design eliminates the need for that strap. Also, because they aren't strapped to your hand, you are encouraged to pull correctly, which was another plus for me. Bottom line, I can't really find any faults with them. These paddles can be used a couple of ways - I settled on middle finger through the opening with “Finis” showing at the top. I had initially wanted and ordered the other Finis paddles, the ones where your thumb goes through, and as soon as I tried them on my hand, I knew I’d lose them. With those, you’re reliant on your thumb kind of clenching to keep them in place, but with the ISO paddles, my hand shapes naturally in the open position that I teach. I don’t worry about them slipping off and they are great at their main job, which is to add resistance so my strokes get stronger! I recommend these without reservation! 5 stars! ... show more

I've swum about 80,000 yards with these now and can say I really like them. You can feel the different muscles activate. The size and the way they move through the water is really nice. They don't feel awkward or grossly exaggerate any mechanics. I ordered the size small because I was also going to let a female friend I was coaching use them, and I'm happy I did. My glove size is a Mens Lrg or XL and I actually really like the size of the small. ... show more

I bought these training paddles because I like the idea a pair of conveniently sized training paddles to add resistance to my swim work out. I thought the notion that because of the change in the way the water dynamics develop depending on which paddle you put on the left and which on the right was interesting; but I wasn't really expecting the difference to be significant. However, it turns out that if I do the work out one way my arms feel more worked on the outside, and more sore the next day, on the outside. If I reverse the paddles for another workout, I then feel the work out more on the inside of my arms. So I do 30" one way and 30" the other way and feel I've had a real good workout for both the inside and outside muscles of my arm. Pretty cool. I happily endorse this product. ... show more
