  • The only machine with a 4.4 balanced line output among currently produced portable CD players! 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone output interfaces to connect headphones; 3.5mm + 4.4mm line output interfaces to connect active speakers and amplifiers! Optical and coaxial digital audio outputs to connect external high-end decoders!
  • Once the DM13 is connected to a USB adapter, simply switch the D.MODE switch to the "ON" position, and the DM13 will be powered directly by the USB without consuming battery power, which can also better protect the battery life!

  • A Nice and Versatile CD Player
Color: Red Bluetooth
Bought this to replace a 25 YO disc player that finally died. So far so good. While the normal controls (power, track selection, volume, etc.) are intuitive, other menu selections are not, so be sure to retain the user manual that comes with this device. There are headphone jacks front and rear on this player along with other rear connections for power and output. The skip protection works well while playing a CD. There are no rings or tabs for connecting a strap, however. My main concern was the ability to play CDs of any age. Even though the CD standards for CD construction haven't changed, the manufacturing methods have. From the early days of CDs (1987) went with Revolver (Beatles) and Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 1. The Revolver transfer was AAD and Symphony No. 1 was DDD, both being designations no longer used. They played just fine and the sound was impeccable, even to the complete channel separation faux stereo from the first Revolver CD release. Next up was a CD-R I had burned in 1997 and Billy Cobham's Spectrum (1992). Again no issues there. Checking on dynamic range, I next went with The Fragile (NIN), Tubular Bells (Oldfield) and Thick as a Brick (Tull). Excellent range for all of these CDs without needing to adjust the volume. Finally, some newer CDs including Ain't Done with the Blues (Buddy Guy), Call a Doctor (Girl and Girl), and Live in London (Kingfish Ingram). As expected they all came across nicely with perfect crisp vocals. I listened to most of each CD over 8 hours and the battery level was at 2 of 4 when I was done, so pretty good there. Next up was Bluetooth. You'll need the user manual for this. Tested on two different speakers: an older Cambridge Soundworks OontZ and a new JBL CLIP5. Both speakers synched easily with the player and provided nice sound. I'd definitely recommend the Bluetooth version of this player. The case of this player is aluminum, so it should stand up well to everyday bumps and dings. Not to say something internal might break, though. Overall very pleased so far (two weeks). Only con is that several times I've hit a wrong button sequence and needed the manual to recover. ... show more

  • Be sure to verify the model if you want Bluetooth output
Color: Red Bluetooth
I chose this model specifically for the Bluetooth output option. I accidentally purchased the standard model thinking that the lower price was due to the color, (which didn’t matter to me.) Turns out that the product page offers this in both standard and Bluetooth versions - be sure to read the description carefully before purchasing, so you get your desired model. The vendor (FiiO Store) was awesome about letting me return the standard version without penalty and this Bluetooth model arrived the next day! It is perfect! I’m not an audiophile but I do have a nice speaker, headset and earbuds - all three are older Bose models and this unit seamlessly paired with all three. (I did have to turn off the Bluetooth on my other devices to establish each pairing, but the unit did the rest automatically and the sound from each of three devices is lovely! (Ear buds & headset are a little more robust than the portable speaker, but I’m very happy with the ease of use and sound quality from all three devices. The manual offers an overview of the unit, but it does not give walk-through information on just how to pair. However, it does have q-codes that link to more detailed information. I needed this online information to get it working, but once I did it, it was pretty straightforward to repeat with my other listening devices. I can’t speak to the longevity or durability of the unit, (because I’ve just received it), but it has a nice weight to it and feels like a quality build - not at all flimsy or cheap feeling. It’s got an elegant and simple design with a small footprint. If you have difficulty with visual contrast, you might wish to consider the white or black units, as it is easier to see the button labels with the black/white contrast. The red unit does not have much contrast with the black labels so I do find them difficult to read (with my aging eyes.) Not a deal-breaker for me as I know that once I get used to the unit, that I’ll just know which buttons I need for operation. But this could be frustrating for some folks, especially in the set-up. I have not tested any of the unit’s other capabilities but I’m certain that this will perfectly suit my needs as a portable, Bluetooth cd player. I do feel that, while pricier than other portable models, that the quality of this hardware makes this worth the cost. ... show more

  • Unit sounded good but stopped working in less than three months
Stopped working after two-and-a-half months. The unit sounded good as long as it worked but it stopped working a couple of days ago. Have sent an email to FiiO support. Will update this review once the issue is resolved.

  • A great portable CD player (with a few minor caveats)
It's great to have a high-quality, portable CD player again. It's reliable, the sound is quite good and it seems well-constructed. Two things I don't like: 1. Slow to read discs initially, in my experience. The SMSL CD player is much faster, though not as portable (a trade-off, I guess). 2. I've had an issue with a few CDs where there's some high-pitched noise that seems to come from the disc spinning (maybe the CD is very slightly warped? I dunno. It doesn't happen with my SMSL or Marantz players.) Other than that, this cute little FiiO does the job. If you're not going to move it around that much, I'd get the SMSL. It's cheaper and faster, although the faceplate is quite ugly (as many have pointed out). If you want a CD player for on the go, I'd say this is a good bet. ... show more
