  • Fender Tone MasterTwin Reverb Digital Modeling Guitar Amplifier
Style: Twin Reverb Color: Black Configuration: Amp Only
I’ve always wanted a Twin, mostly because they are well-respected, but they have been so heavy and so loud (to get the best tone) that I have always shied away. I have not tried to make an A/B comparison between my new Fender and a real ’65 reissue. There are plenty of those reviews on the internet and most seem to be fairly presented. My modeler is programmed with both a Twin and a Marshall JCM 2000, in parallel. That is my holy grail. I’ve only had the Tone Master Twin for a week, but I’m close to getting the Fender part of that tone from the Tone Master; while getting just the Marshall part from my modeler. It’s not there yet, but it is close. It takes analog pedals well, and my several modelers. I play in both a rock ‘n roll church band and a 10 piece oldies band with horns. For the latter, all I need is an amp with lots of clean headroom, some overdrive and reverb. The Fender has all of that. Then, why did I even bother to buy this amp if all my needs were met with just a modeler (and an excellent powered speaker)? Just because I can, and it LOOKS COOL!! The built-in attenuator is a big plus. The great, over-driven, compressed sound of a tube Twin is only available at the high end of its volume control; and that is incredibly loud. With the attenuator, you can get that same sound at six different volumes, from two watts (tube equivalent) to eighty watts. All, from its 200 watt class D amplifier. By the way, one watt is a comfortable, but not quiet, volume in my practice room. All In all, I’m glad I bought it and you probably will be, too. It sounds good, it is light weight, and it looks very cool. It is every bit a Twin. ... show more

  • It’s a Princeton Reverb without tubes
Style: Princeton Reverb Color: Black Configuration: Amp Only
As soon as I got this amp, I A-B’d it to my tube amp. Tone sounded virtually identical between both amps, could only start to pick out differences once I started throwing a lot of distortion at it. This amp doesn’t sound bad with distortion though, it just distorts different than a tube amp. Also, I’ve heard people say that this amp doesn’t handle fuzz well, but in my experience it handled fuzz just fine, I used an MXR 108 Classic Fuzz for reference. As for build quality, it’s built just like a modern Princeton Reverb. Same materials, and I haven’t discovered any QC issues at the time of writing this review. Tone wise, it’s a very clean and fender-y tone. It basically sounds how you’d expect. The reverb on this amp is amazing, it’s mind blowing good. The power attenuator is extremely useful for getting the tone you want without having to crank the amp and wake your neighbors. Also, this isn’t a 12 W solid state amp, it’s a solid state amp that sounds as loud as a 12 W tube amp; That’s to say it’s loud as ****. This thing will melt your face off at 12 W, so the addition of the attenuator is a great modern feature! Overall this is a great amp, and look forward to not having to worry about tube maintenance for the rest of this amp’s life. ... show more

  • It’s The Real Deal
Style: Deluxe Reverb Color: Black Configuration: Amp Only
The best way to measure the quality of a guitar amplifier is the purity of sound divided by the time it takes from plugging in for the police to arrive on a noise complaint. The best way to measure the value of an amp is if the cops hang around to listen. This Tonemaster Delux Reverb is a great amp and a good value. While I have not compared it side-by-side to the comparable tube amp, I have heard the tube version hundreds of times and believe it has the same transparency and sparkle. No one should buy this amp thinking it’s exactly the same as the tube version. Buy it because it’s great classic Fender sound, easy to carry, and you don’t expect to use it without at least basic effect pedals (Jimi only used two at Woodstock.) Before buying, I read the manuals for the Tonemaster and traditional tube versions on the Fender site. For the tube version, Fender wants you take the amp to an authorized repair center for tube replacement. Enough said. One, tiny note of caution. Assuming you connect to the amp by cable (instead of wirelessly), getting the cable wrapped around a mic stand or otherwise caught could pull this lightweight beauty over. Impossible to do with my old Vox Super Beatle. Outstanding service by Amazon. The amp arrived ahead of schedule, perfectly packaged, without even a ding on the box. ... show more

  • An amazing upgrade from a cheap SS amp
Style: Deluxe Reverb Color: Black Configuration: Amp Only
I only play for myself and an occasional gig for work parties, so I'm not a working musician. I've been playing a Fender 110 Champ for 25 years and have always been disappointed in my tone. No single pedal or digital modelling pedal has ever gotten me the sound I wanted. I got this at Christmas and am blown away by the depth and tone of this thing. I'm currently still exploring the range of tone controls, reverb and tremelo options and have yet to put any of my pedals in the path. I am a way better guitarist than I thought I was! Seriously, this thing will make you want to play more. I like the attenuator switch very much. I typically play at the 0.5W setting - have yet to crank her up to the full 22W. It seems to retain the tone while cutting volume to something my beloved wife will tolerate (!) I was hesitant to buy another SS amp but this thing is great! I've played it with a Les Paul, an ES-335, a cheapish acoustic and a Godin Artisan. I sound better on every guitar with this amp. Will report back if I have any problems but after 2 months I'm very happy. ... show more
