  • Inexpensive, compact, and LOUD = great little amp.
I bought the Mini Tone Master as a practice amp for my Dean EVO electric guitar, and love it -- but there are a few things you should know before a possible purchase: 1. When they say "mini," they mean it. It's a tiny little thing about the size of a hardcover book (or smaller), and about as thick (2" thick or so). 2. It also runs off a 9V battery, though if you have a DC9V adapter, there's a plug for it. it also has a 1/4 jack for standard headphones or earbuds as well. 3. It's LOUD. Even when at low volume its tones will fill a room. This is a major plus for such a tiny, inexpensive amp. Controls on the amp are great; it has a gain/distortion knob that is almost as good as having an overdrive or gain effects pedal hooked up to a full-size amp. It's strong enough to where if you're playing small gigs such as coffeehouses or hole-in-the wall small bars, you won't need to lug along your 10W (or larger) amp with you, though that may depend on the tone your guitar puts out to begin with. Still, this is an awesome deal; I paid about $30 here on Amazon for it, so if you need a practice amp but don't want to spend a ton of cash, snatch up one of these little bad boys. You won't be sorry. ... show more

  • Great for solo practice and writing
Ignore the 1 star reviews below. anyone who thinks you can get a full half stack for 30$ should not have the ability to write a review on this or any piece of guitar gear ever. Yes it is small, it is ment to be a FUNCTIONAL REPLICA AMP. that being said it is a nice little replica that resembles a true tone master amp very well. it would look nice on your desk with a tele or strat replica leaning on it. even the mini knobs are the correct design for this amp. looks aside its the sound that really matters and where this thing really does get the job done. its clean tone does have the mention distortion when u crank it 8.5-10, however, anyone that has ever used a tube amp knows that this is what happens when the tubes get natural overdrive, now i dont know if that was fenders motive in designing it this way, but it is kinda cool when you think about it. it is quiet without any gain, so you will have to use it on about 7 or 8. however the clean tone is THE BEST i have heard on any practice amp, save the fender champ tube amp. the gain knob adds some nice overdrive from about 2-5 and anything past 6 kinda sounds the same and just gets dirty. but in the range of 2-5 you can find a nice crunch. The tone blend is so so, on 1 the sound is kinda choked and on 10 it is very bassy, but the range of 2.5-6 is not bad and most of the work is done btw those digits Good: very fluid jazzy clean tone \ good posthardcore/indie/blues crunch \ compact enough for bring to lessons or have in a dorm \ headphone jack to play in your dorm or aptm. Bad: Tone knob only contributes decent tone from about 3-7 \ some dont like it's tiny size (look at the jack for reference)\ 9v battery can bounce around and cause the amp to turn off Over all: Excellent tone for a small amp and in my opinion sounds better than amps up to 300$ or 400$ ... show more

  • Get One!
All you guys who play guitars gotta get one of these little brutes. I used my wireless unit to keep from having a cord dangling, but as others have noted, it's so tiny it'll get tippy very easily. Sounds remarkable out of the box, (battery was included) and will amaze your pals if you can spring it on 'em unawares. Get the optional 9v cord too, you'll need it. That way the battery will always be ready to goof on your buddies. Really, this amp is gonna be so handy for practice and it has interesting gain settings and tone settings. ... show more

  • a beginning guitarist's review
I have a small apartment in a small but densely populated apartment complex - space and noise is an issue. As a beginning guitarist, I contemplated a small amp but decided on the Mini Tone Master (because in my apartment, the smaller the better). Also, I had no need for ample volume or a variety of controls being at the level that I am... I just wanted something no-frills that was small, compact with enough quality sound to help me as I practice. The Mini Tone Master delivers well. I was pretty surprised at the range of sounds the little guy can produce (from distortion grungy to a softer bluesy tone). It does not come with a power adapter but we already have on in the apartments and works well with that or with a battery. Battery life is also pretty good. I've had the same battery in there for several months already, playing several times a week and sometimes leaving it on accidentally for a day or two and no signs of battery drain so far. It is a little frustrating sometimes, as another reviewer mentioned, to remove the distortion but with enough fiddling, I found a setting that was acceptable to my ears. While I didn't need volume, this little guy can be loud! No weakness there. I also plugged an acoustic-electric classical guitar into the mini tone master and it also worked surprisingly well. ... show more

  • Don't waste your money
Very cheap amplifier. It's noisy with DC or 9v battery. Don't waste your money in this product.

  • its just OK
Up until I purchased this amp, all I had was a 2-12 Crate, which is an amazing amp, but weighs about 150 pounds and is therefore imovable, so I bought this one,so that I could travel with it or use it when the power is out (it can run off 9v battery). The Mini Tone Master is a Fender and does have a great tone when you output the sound to headphones or speakers, but the 2 2 inch speakers that are built in are really quite crap. If you turn the gain up at all anything you play just comes out as fuzz and it almost sounds as if the speakers have been blown up. So this amp certainly is not a gret amp, but for the size it is its not that bad and it is pretty darn cheap ... show more
