Original review 9/11/12: This item is perfect for my situation. I am a fairly heavy person of average height. The pad fits my back and is the right height. It does smash down about half way when I fully lean against it. But at this point that is OK. In fact, since it has so much give to it, it does not feel like you have a lump in the middle of your back - it feels more natural. And most times I am not pushing against it that hard. If the mesh were to loosen more over time I could put something between it and the chair. So far it is fine the way it is. You can't beat the price, and it shipped the same day I ordered it. Update 11/5/12: I have been using this support daily for 2 months. It has not collapsed or loosened, and still provides the same level of support. My back no longer aches. Update #2 2/26/14: I've been using this almost daily for 1 1/2 years. It still works great. The elastic band that goes around the chair has loosened, and at some point I'll tighten it with a few hand stitches. You can't go wrong. Update #3 9/25/16: After 4 years this back support is still going strong - as good as the day I bought it. The bands holding it have lost all their elastic but it stays in place adequately. I notice the price today is MUCH higher than I paid, so it is no longer the great bargain it was.

I originally purchased this for $7.26 (free shipping) to see if it would provide back support that I was interested in. I am pleased with the Mesh Back Support. I have used it on my home office chair and in my car. It is sturdy and works well in both environments. I have since ordered two more. The elastic which goes around back is about 3/8" wide and seemed a little flimsy. But it has held up well so far. If I want a wider elastic or an adjustable buckle around the back, it would be easy to buy the parts at a fabric store and sew on a replacement back strap.

I was expecting this lumbar support to actually do what it says - support my lower back in my work chair. However, the material is flexible, so when you lean back on it, it goes back with you. Not very supportive! I gave it to a co-worker, and she had to ball up her jacket and stick it between the chair and this back support for it to even remotely begin to help. You might as well save your money and find an old blanket to put behind you in your chair instead of buying this.

I used this product for a short time, but I noticed that after a couple of weeks the mesh pulled away from the binding (on the side). However although the appearance was tarnished due to the tear, the performance of the product was intact, providing good support.

2013 Update: A friend told me she saw this at the local Dollar Store and I did not believe her. So I went over there and there it was for...GUESS HOW MUCH? That's right...$1. Online they said it was $7 but the store clerk did not know that and gave it to me for the going price. Could have saved some money. Now I have two. One for work and one for my home chair. Doesn't help my back as much as I had hoped though. Even though there is an elastic band to hold it against the chair back, the thing slides down to where the seat and the chair back meet and I have to keep pulling it up so that the curved part hits the lumbar portion of my lower back. So...it's not so perfect and I have done just as well with the $1 version as I have with the expensive online item I bought first. Too bad I did not know about the one at Dollar Tree before I spent the money. :-( :-( Oh well... ~~~~~~~~~~~ August 2011 This is a great product and what a great price. Everywhere else I checked it was $30+ (even Walmart could not beat this price). I use it every day at home. When I get a temp job I take it with me to work. You never know what kind of chair they have and this is a real back saver. I was just in an auto accident on July 11, 2011 and this has helped with the pain that I have been having. If you are sitting on the fence about this back support item order it. You can't lose. It's light weight and portable. Received this product very quickly. Very comfortable and provides great support. My only concern is that the one strap on the back does cause it to slide around a little bit. Not so much that it isn't usable. It just needs some adjusting throughout the day.

I use this when I take quilting classes or go to retreat. I have a similar one for my sewing chair. I find they slip around so I sewed one to my sewing chair with strong thread. I used a bit of duct tape for the portable one. You can't beat the price. When you are sewing or writing you lean forward, but it feels good to periodically lean back. You can also scoot your chair close to your desk to make it work.
