  • Great value in a simple switcher
If you're new to streaming, you have heard of the Black Magic ATEM Mini Pro and the Livepro L1. I bought both to test out. The Livepro is 1/2 the price of the ATEM Mini Pro, but similar in price to the Atem mini. I only have the Mini pro so I can't speak for the Atem mini. First, both the ATEM and the Livepro does basically the same thing. Both are very well built and have a nice heft to it. Both have 4 HDM inputs. The ATEM has 2 mic inputs, the Livepro has one. The Livepro has headphone for monitoring, while the ATEM has none. Both do basic transitions such as swipes and fades. Both do Picture in Picture. The Livepro has a tiny LCD screen that shows what's on each of the 4 inputs so you don't have to have an external monitor. The Livepro also has a 1/4 threaded mount on the right side should you want to mount it somewhere. Both can be hooked up to a computer via USB or network. Difference is the Livepro L1 software is terrible. It really just replicates the controls without really adding any functionality. You do better without the software. The firmware upgrade process is complicated. The Atem software on the other hand completely expands the capability of the hardware. Much more function and flexibility. So for basic camera switching for zoom meetings and such, the Livepro is an excellent value. It's super simple to use, has most functions that most users would want in a solid package. So simple you don't even need to read the manual. And you certainly don't get anything else with the software. What you get with the ATEM is much more flexibility with the software control. You have a full audio mixer. Much more sophisticated audio/video interface when paired with a computer. You can do titles, keying, audio sync, etc. Much more to learn, but much more powerful. You really are buying into the BlackMagic biosphere. I really enjoy learning all the functions in the software, everything is pretty intuitive. But then again I'm a bit of a geek. So for someone like me I like the ATEM much better and it's worth double the price. It's flexible and immensely powerful for such a tiny box. I actually use both devices. I have the HDMI out on the Livepro as my 4th input on the ATEM. So when I want something super simple, I just use the Livepro via the ATEM. When I want to get fancy, I can tap the functions of the ATEM. One thing in common on both is that neither have an on/off switch...weird. ... show more

  • No audio mixing, but nice PIP transitions with just the T-bar once set up right
I don't know if they will change this with firmware or not, but the two choices for audio are (paraphrasing) "follow the active video input" or "lock it onto a single input". I don't believe you can have audio flowing from multiple inputs at the same time and have it mixed together. For my uses, that's actually fine. I use it to bring Zoom desktop shares into my local HDMI recordings, and I always want my table mics to stay active in that situation. My other use is picking a laptop vs document reader for Elmo meetings, and again, the table mics need to stay on. The interface is tricky, and I have to play with it each time I use it to get familiarity back. The j5create JVA06 (only two inputs) is MUCH simpler, and you can configure audio choices without going into a menu. Also, the Livepro also seems to reduce audio level compared to my Roland 2 port mixer. Even with the volume knob at full, there is some noticeable attenuation. Not a huge amount, but noticeable. I can make up for some of it by driving my levels a little hotter going into the Livepro mixer, but since my main camera works off that audio, there's only so much I can do without clipping the master recording. So I don't use it for a situations where my main recording's audio will go through it, but it's great for the cases I mentioned in the first paragraph. One very nice thing about this mixer is that once you get it configured right, you can transition from full screen input to a pre-configured PIP picture on the other side with just the T bar. This is the only mixer I know that allows that without a two or three button/slide sequence. Just simple sliding back and forth as needed is wonderful, but takes a few minutes of doinking around to get it set up right. It does run quite hot. I have a small fan I use to cool my Atomos Ninja and this mixer. The new firmware addresses the heat issue, but I haven't applied that yet. ... show more

  • Compact, good for travel, good resolution, extra monitor feature, update firmwares when can.
I use this to run video feed for livestream at church. And it serves its purpose. I love it a whole lot. I just updated the firmware, so no I can choose which camera to receive sound from. One of my cameras has an xlr input which is awesome. Please do research before buying. I chose this over the Black Magic Atem Mini because of Extra Monitor feature. Had lots of fun setting up my production case. Now I get paid to do livestreams. :) ... show more

  • Best Bang for the Bucks
This device is exactly what I needed for my "mini-broadcast" situation. I feed two cameras and one computer into it for distribution to a local broadcast channel for a 55+ community. The ability to instantly switch between the inputs allows me to produce fairly "professional" broadcasts for our residents. For the price, compared to competitors, this unit fits the bill VERY well. ... show more

  • Lasted just over a year now a paperweight
Loved this for use at our church and it worked great until is stopped consistently sending a signal through the output port. Now every Sunday for service have to pray over it that our stream has picture. Pretty disappointing

  • Must have
This item is superb. Used it at a virtual and live conference we had at church. Through zoom I was able to have a camera on the speaker as well as the in person audience for those at home could see them.

  • When it works it's great
I've had endless issues with this switcher. I had to update the firmware immediately and I have been in contact with the company numerous times about it simply not working. Sometimes the HDMI output is not there. The next day it is back again. Lately the UVC output is not working although the HDMI is working. When this switcher works...it is terrific!...but unfortunately it is fully operative only some of the time and I need a switcher that works every time... ... show more
