  • good quality tent and features for the price
Style: Ul Granite 2p
For the price, the quality of the tent is better than I expected. The materials are of good quality. The mesh feels strong enough. The rain fly and the bath tub seem sturdy too. The stitches are nicely done. Both sides have a door. Zippers work smoothly, although I don't understand why one door has only one zipper head. How much would that have saved the cost? There is a good size detachable web attached to the top of the tent for whatever you'd like to put up there, as well as two corner pockets. The poles are actually connected in one piece, so set up is easy and quite. The footprint feels a bit thin, but as good as any other brands, including REI. And it's included in the package. Various lines of the tent, as well as guy lines, all have reflective materials, so it's really to see in the dark with a bit of light. The stakes are nice triangular pegs, not those whimpy wire ones. It's not ultralight like a REI Flash 2 (discontinued now). But still feels a quite good quality product, and a lot cheaper, with a footprint included. The Flash 2 has a tapered shape bottom (one side is 50in wide while the other 42in); this tent is a rectangular. I wish both doors have two zipper heads; the upper vent of the rainfly can be of bigger openings like the REI ones, instead of a triangle cutout. Otherwise, I am really happy with it. Time will tell how durable it is. ... show more

  • Awesome Tent; Exceeded my Solo camping needs
Style: Ul Peridot 2p
Set it up in my house and it was a piece of cake without instructions. Swift and easy. So far only camped once with it (3 nights); It kept all the bugs on the outside, though quite scary to wake up to a huge OrbWeaver between the mesh and rainfly! The wings are perfect for storing ice chests and creating a wind tunnel. The mesh is great to allow a good breeze through too. On the inside, it fit me perfectly with enough room for a Ryobi fan, my bag, and any other inside the mesh things. The pouches along the sides held my keys/wallet in one and sunscreens in another. The mesh shelf up top was a super nice tough that held my light. Overall I'm very happy with this tent and excited to keep using it. It is a good quality tent, especially for the price. Manufacturing defect: Missing one of the plastic snap pieces that connect the mesh to the pole (picture). Nervous about: rainfly tearing a hole where the top of the tent (cross pole piece) intersects with it. Can be hard to get the ends of the poles directly over the areas of the fly that have additional protection. Soon to be seen: How the ground mat does during rain and if it traps water between it and the tent (it seems to extend a little past the tent, which might collect water. About me: I'm a camper more than a hiker. Weight played little into my needs. ... show more

  • Solid basic 1-person tent - with a couple quirks.
Style: Ul Obsidian 1p
Just got back from a weekend up on California's Lost Coast where I broke in the Obsidian 1P. Tent performed well, with no surprises (which was great); I learned a few things along the way, too. Overall, I was really pleased and wholly intend to keep using it as my primary tent, with it performing admirably as a car camping tent. I'm debating how suitable it'd be for backpacking, as it's still ~3lb and definitely takes up a fair bit of space when packed (though I could probably roll it tighter if I tried. Highlights: - Straightforward setup and break down, with color-coded poles and straps. - Spacious interior was enough for myself with sleeping bag + pad, as well as to store a bag of clothes so it didn't get wet. - Rain fly has reinforced pockets for pole placement now (addressing previous reviewers' concerns)! I didn't even realize until I was breaking camp, but now I'll be sure to put the poles properly into the fly. - Retroreflective structure and lines shine bright in the dark under even just a red head lamp. Notes / considerations: - It's semi-freestanding (not fully-freestanding), so note that the bottom corners will sorta taper in if you don't stake them - and they stake farther out than the foundation's corners, so you need ~10 stakes (and more if you want to use guy lines on the rain fly). - Vestibule is a bit on the small side; enough to store a pair of shoes or similar but not quite enough room for a bag under there. - Single door, and the zipper placement can be a bit awkward under the fly if you don't keep it at the right place / when you want to fully roll up the door. ... show more

  • Ingenious aluminum rods, easy setup, rainfly stable
Style: Ul Peridot 2p
Some reviews mentioned that the rainfly did not have pockets for the rods, maybe design was updated (got mine 8-2023). There are indeed nice heavy pockets with a little pull loop to get the rod ends in. Very secure. The rainfly rod is attached to the main rod with a very nice aluminum swivel. Holds in place very well with no sliding. All very slick. Used the tent on a motorcycle camping trip, packs very compact, only 15" wide and maybe 5" diameter so fits nicely bungeed to the seat. Easily setup even in the dark. Stakes are extruded aluminum, very light. I did bend one trying to step in with my boot & hit a rock (was able to straighten). Best is to hammer them in so they go straight. There are several extra however. The 2 person fit me solo nicely, with room for gear on the side. Nice head clearance that extends all the way to the ends, and sides are nearly vertical. ... show more
