Believe the reviews when they state this thing is a steaming pile. My original use case was to install this in our minivan to give the kids something else to do on long trips. Everything, including an HDMI port to get the game system access to the OEM entertainment system (audio+video), was already there. This seemed like a no-brainer. Of course, in the interim while I waited for it to arrive I checked the reviews. They were steadily negative, so I figured I needed to unpack and play-test upon receipt to see if the stream of negative reviews were warranted. Once set up, the menus are easy enough to navigate...choose your emulator, then pick your game. There seemed to be plenty from which to choose, although 90+% aren't what us older kids remember playing in the USA back in the day. Some games specifically stated during their intro that they were explicitly not for distribution in the USA. Some games loaded and played decently enough. Others, wouldn't load at all. Some would load, but were effectively unplayable because the game processor couldn't handle the render and it stuttered like mad. Then, I got the kids involved in the play test for 2 player (2P) use (the original use concept). They chose Street Fighter. After only one round, they started complaining that the controls weren't responding. After I independently verified what they said was going on, I was able to determine that the data stream from the controllers is overwhelming either the radio receiver for the game, or the engineer didn't allow for duplex data streaming (2 controllers) during 2P play. The console would not recognize simultaneous key presses or joystick movements from both controllers at once. I've seen this behavior in other computer systems from very low frequency multiplexers (cost cutting). Other cheap gaming consoles also had a problem similar to this in the past, where "run-jump" simultaneous functionality was absent making for a frustrating play experience. Apparently they solved the "run-jump" problem with this system, but 2P became janky and unplayable. Ultimately that was the last straw for me...this purchase was very poor value for money. So, believe the other poor reviews. This thing is terrible. It's not worth your time and effort to evaluate, just don't get it.

I’m really impressed with this updated retro game console. It comes loaded with thousands of classic games, and it brought back so many childhood memories. The setup was super easy — just plug it in and start playing. The games run smoothly, and the picture quality is way better than I expected for old-school titles. Not sure how this system got good reviews. Most of the games don’t allow you to play them. The games don’t react to these cheap controllers and go into simulation mode. The few times I had a game allow me to actually play it, the games were glitchy and the controls were worse than we had 30+ years ago.

Some games will not load or run correctly. controllers are so buggy and delayed the games are not not even fun to play. you just end up frustrated after 5 minutes.
