  • Didn't even know there was a difference between a "New 3DS" and a "3DS"
This is amazing! When I bought this, I didn't know that it was the newest version of the 3DS so I am more than happy with my purchase. There are so many great features. Prior to purchasing this, I only had a DSi. This is a massive improvement. Pros: - The console is backwards compatible. Your old DS or DSi games will definitely work on this, you just won't be able to use the 3D function on them. (For example, my copy of Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns runs flawlessly. I'd argue that it runs better than it did on the DSi) - The XL screen prevents me from squinting at the screen as I had done on my DSi. It also makes the device itself larger and easier to hold. Even with my small hands, it was a struggle to wield my DSi so I would always recommend an XL screen. - There's a smaller "knob" which can help focus the camera/ control your game much better than you could in the original 3DS. This, along with the other analog stick, makes playing very enjoyable. - The interior is matte. This prevents smudges and fingerprints. - So many cameras. There are two in the back and one in the front. I could play with just the cameras all day. - 3D isn't as headache-inducing as it was on the original 3DS. They've improved the face tracking in this version which has made it leaps and bounds easier on my head. - I don't know how the browser was for the original 3DS, but this is amazing compared to what it was for the DSi. Pleasantly surprised that Nintendo has created a browser that will run Youtube, especially in such a visually pleasing way. The buttons indicate that you may be able to use the 3D functionality on videos, but I haven't come across anything that works well yet. Cons: - The layout isn't as visually pleasing as the original 3DS, in my opinion. There used to be three buttons just below the touch screen but now there is only one (the home button). Also, the holes for the speaker are a weird plus sign pattern instead of the nice circle. - At the moment, there aren't any great console-exclusive games. Nintendo has stated that there would be games that could run on this, but they're not big titles or anything. As a result, the shoulder buttons seem kind of useless. - I bought mine used- like new for $140 from Amazon's warehouse deals. I would not at all pay the $200 for it. Most of the games for this system (even those that are old) are $30-50. Buying a system that is worth four-to-five of the games that run on it is a little absurd. If you have the cash it is worth it, otherwise I would wait for the price to drop or scope out the warehouse deals as I did. If you have the money to buy this and a handful of games for it all at once, then I think it's a fantastic buy. But if you have to wait and save up for the games then you may become a little disappointed in the system. It might also be a good upgrade if you're still in the DS/DSi era, like me. It's roughly the same price as the original 3DS, so if you're making a choice between this or the original I would recommend this. It's definitely fun to use and can even bring new life to games that you may have had sitting around for a while (that analogue stick has saved me from so many hand cramps already!). Can't wait to start digging in to the games I've been missing out on. ... show more

  • I love my New 3DS XL.
A ton of fun, I only wish I had gotten it sooner. What some people may be wondering: Battery life: Huge plus. Putting it in sleep mode is as easy as closing it. It can even download Eshop titles while it's asleep if you pick "Download later" 3D: Disclaimer, I get Migraines very easily, so this might be biased. The 3d is impressive for requiring no glasses, only the console. However, if you just look at it wrong or move your head a little, you'll notice a double vision effect which is hard on the eyes. Games play fine even without the 3d effect, it's honestly more of a gimmick to me. Game Selection: It's Nintendo, you can expect great games. Whether you buy from the eShop or buy the cartridges, there will always be something fun to play. My favorites so far, are Fire Emblem: Awakening, Xenoblade 3D and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. How does it feel in the hands: I would say it's the perfect weight and shape. Hours of comfortable gameplay can be had. The trigger buttons are very well-placed and the XYAB buttons are ergonomically efficient from my experience so far. DISCLAIMER!!!! This console does not come with a charger. Makes no sense to me honestly but it just doesn't. The good news is that a charger can be had for a reasonable price. 12.99 at Wal-Mart for Nintendo Brand charger. It's not a detraction from my review at all, but it's something you should know. The Wii U tablet charger does not work with this console. Bottom Line: Fun and Comfortable, also well-built. ... show more

  • A fantastic on-the-go handheld.
Having bought this used from a seller at a relatively low price compared to other units (around $70 less), I was a little skeptical as to whether or not this would come in good condition. Luckily, when it had came in, I was pleasantly surprised. The unit itself was in absolutely fantastic condition and was delivered on time. Packaging was more than adequate and even came with a charger and the original pen (which is a major plus since units costing up to $50 more didn’t even come with the pen which is $5 to replace). Overall though, I’m very happy with my purchase. Upgrading from the standard 3DS, it still has the great 3DS experience but has some nice improvements over the previous one. The faster CPU and more RAM make the system feel snappier and more responsive, the MicroSD card storage is a welcome replacement over the bulkier SD cards of the standard 3DS, improved button, slider, and port placements make it feel less awkward to hold, and more. While this console is already a bit dated, it’s a fantastic on-the-go handheld that is relatively capable and works best for those short sessions. The fact that I was able to get it at a good price and in such a good condition just makes it all the better. I would highly encourage anyone interested to pick one of these up whenever it’s at a reasonable price. ... show more
