  • Sounds bigger than it looks
The media could not be loaded. I wanted an inexpensive mini amp to use for testing guitars while I'm repairing them. Being rechargeable wasn't one of my criteria since I have an outlet handy, and I was prepared for it to sound like a cheap mini amp. When I saw this I'll admit that I was initially attracted to the vintage styling and layout, but the specs are impressive as well. I used it for about 90 minutes the day I got it, trying several guitars and basses with it. The overdrive is surprisingly clean, and the gain & tone controls alter the sound a lot, so you can find a sound that suits whatever guitar you have. The changes these controls make are smooth - no sudden changes or spikes. The video clip is of me playing* through the clean channel. No effects were used - my Hils Next guitar is going into a Joyo wireless set, tone at 50%, both pickups are on. Distortion can mask speaker quality or lack therof, and this amp sounds so good that I wanted to highlight that. The result is a very full and natural sound of a larger cabinet. *I am not a guitar player - obviously. The listing says that it's suitable for bass too, but it's really not. It does work, but if your bass has active pickups, hot pickups, is tuned below standard E, or has an E-string larger than .105 it'll distort. I tried it with a bass that has .100 E string and low-output passive pickups and I could raise it to a respectable volume, but even passive USA-made Fender pickups were too much for it. I don't know whether this is the amp, the speakers or both I don't know. I don't consider this a failure of the amp. It's a guitar amp, and it's great at that. In fact it compares favorably to my Pignose Hog 20 in overall sound, and has a better (IMHO) overdrive circuit (and it costs as much as just the replacement batteries for the Hog 20). Of course I opened it. That's what I do. I was pleasantly surprised at the build quality and attention to detail. The case separates the amp from the speaker cavity, it has a proper port, and honking big speaker magnets like on a full-sized amp. When the case is assembled the circuit board is held to the front by the pots and by a slot in the back case. This may not seem important, but it keeps the circuit board from being damaged by movement. Even the soldering is even and tidy. This reflects the attention to detail. Too bad it's hidden.. the circuit board is - dare I say - pretty. One of my favorite features is that the AUX input has its own volume independent of the amp controls (though the power switch is on the amp volume pot). This is great for playing along or learning a song. You could use this as a regular Bluetooth speaker too. It sounds really good for that. Not so much for audiobooks, but try it anyhow. It might work for you. TL/DR: Looks good, sounds good, price is good. ... show more

  • Loud on high gain, quiet on low gain
This is a neat little amp that is surprisingly loud, at least on the lead channel. I played it turned all the way up on the clean setting and it wasn't that loud. A decent volume for practicing in an apartment with roommates. Switching to the lead/crunch setting makes a large increase in volume, and it gets surprisingly loud. The distortion on the crunch setting is ok, decently high gain, but understandably not great considering the tiny speakers. But better than you might expect. I wish the volume between the 2 settings was consistent, but not terrible for a tiny cheap portable amp. ... show more

  • Small but mighty !! Really good sound for such a tiny package
The vendor photos of this amplifier, or should I say amplified speaker, make it appear to be large; but as you can see in the photo, it is actually very small. I was ready to give this a 3 or 4 star rating when I first unpacked it; BUT after hooking it up to a music workstation and listening to it I went straight away to 5 stars. For it's size the amplifier has a very nice and undistorted tone. It can be turned up quite loud if needed, and I find that I use no more than one-half maximum. My intention for this little amp was to have something to act as output for my synth in a practice room; and I am pleasantly surprised by this little powerhouse. The amp is powered by an internal, rechargeable battery; the charging cord is included but not the power block. The power cord is USB type-C on the amp end and USB type-A on the charging end, so any convenient USB port on a laptop or computer or power block will work. The controls include a tone control, gain, aux-in volume, and main volume. On the front is a 1/4" input jack; on the back in a 1/8" aux-input jack, a 1/8" headphone jack, and the USB=C charging port. There is a push button on the front panel to choose from a clear output or 'drive' output. The clear is an unaltered input, and the 'drive' option appears to overdrive the input causing it to be more high-frequency and 'tinny' and a little distorted. The amp can also receive Bluetooth v5.3 audio from other devices such as your smart phone. The Bluetooth volume is controlled by the gain knob, and is independent of the aux or main volume; so you can play music for example through Bluetooth and play along with it using the main and/or aux inputs, and control each volume separately. Pairing with my cell phone was virtually instantaneous, and the pairing status is announced through the amp's speaker. If you need a little portable amp, then this one might be the one for you. ... show more
