  • Beautiful kit, includes many helpful tools!
It's a gorgeous finished product but there were some instruction challenges that made it tough to get to the finish. I would give the final product gets 5 stars. It's SO beautiful. The building part I would give 3 stars. This kit came with a razor knife, a floppy ruler, pointed tweezers (my favorite type for this kind of kit), scissors, a screwdriver, and a square of sandpaper. There was NO glue included. I find it useful to maintain your own kit of miniature tools if this is something you intend to do as a hobby. They can come in handy for tools your kit does not include. In the case of this particular kit, because there are large pieces of paper to stick on wood, I have found it's helpful to have a paper squeegee with felt on it to ensure no bubbles in large areas. It helps me be less sloppy. The sheets on this kit are a thin wood (a couple of them are medium-weight pressboard) so the pieces are more prone to splintering when you remove them. They might even break. Just ensure that you're taking care when you remove the pieces. There are a few pieces of wood that is a little bit thicker, so hopefully that balances out. There were a lot of little books to put together which can be quite time consuming, but with how it adds to the overall detailed look, it's really worth it. All of the books are printed on paper rather than any of them being on stickers. I prefer stickers. It goes a lot quicker! You avoid all of the drying time, too. This kit is mostly tab pieces with some direct-glue sections. The instructions had parts where some things seemed to be missing. For example, the pulled out drawers with the cabinet in the left rear were not explained at all that there were the only two that were to be pulled out for books to be sitting in or anything detailing how to set that up correctly. The decorations on the writing desk and fire place were not explained that when they were glued on to their location that you had better make sure to keep an opening available for an LED light to be installed into it from underneath later on in the project. That was a problem we encountered with both lights where the glue we used to attach the lights blocked the hole from underneath. The front panel of the house has a clear plastic cover in front of it which is nice, however it is not explained clearly how it is installed. It looks like on the instructions that it slides down from the top like a slot. Yet there is nothing to create a gap in the front for the glass to slide down. So we had to glue the glass front on to the case, behind the front panel. It was the only way to make it work and there were no leftover pieces that we forgot to install and no instructions detailing how to do any of it at all. It also had no explanation about the location of the main floor decorating pieces, like the chair and broom and books and hat. It just suddenly shows them there at the end, but only mentions gluing one book to the rail. So I forgot some of that stuff and had to take off the front panel that I glued on and redo a portion. Going back to parts you think are already done can involve having to "unglue" and reglue, and it can be a hassle. The instructions are mostly arrows and images with very little if any words on each page. Adding a little wording to help describe some things which could really avoid some time consuming mistakes. Sometimes the instruction booklets that are only pictures can have an element of frustration to them! That said, the instruction book IS in color with mostly good pictures (easy to see). I always appreciate when you can tell the orientation of the pieces before you go and glue them (front and back). The light is controlled by a small motion detector at the bottom front. It can be turned off altogether via the battery pack which is accessible from the back panel and powered by 2 AA batteries. I'd really prefer the option of a touch-button on and off button because if this nice little book nook is in a high traffic area it is going to go thru batteries quickly. You may want to put something in front of that motion detector to save your batteries. I'm not a fan of the motion detector ones. They can be so finicky and can either stay on or flicker at times. Despite all of that, I go back to my initial statement, it's an absolutely gorgeous finished product. Five stars. Definitely recommend. (And I really appreciate all the tools that came with this one!) ... show more

  • Lot's Of Detail
This Fastspok DIY Book Nook has a lot of detail which also requires a lot of gluing. The wallpaper needs to be glued to the walls both inside and out. The book covers all need to be glued also and you will have to buy your own glue. This book nook is taking longer than other kits but it's looking pretty good so far. You will also be doing a lot of cutting which is also time consuming and the instructions can be a little confusing at times. ... show more
