Automatically prevents ice and keeps water slightly warm, fits well in my copper birdbath, birds ignore it. It's the 150 watt model, which seems to be enough. Doesn't need any cleaning. The cord is about 6 feet long. Metal fitting around where cord attaches corrodes away; after two years my last heater gave a mild shock when I moved it to clean the birdbath. A brand new one, the 250 watt model, that I had in reserve and put into the bird bath a few weeks ago didn't work at all. The return date was past unfortunately so I had to buy another new one. It worked well and I was happy to pack away for next season (25-26). I'm not sure about the quality of the water being drunk as this got a little rusty at cord area.. and slimmy. But it worked well in a 'basic' 5 gal bucket and a much larger storage type bin.

Bought this product so that my chicken waterer would not freeze in the winter. This was purchased September of 2021. At first it worked great and kept the water thawed for the chickens fast forward to summer where it is no longer needed. Removed it an stored in a dry safe place. Go to use it this winter and it doesn’t work. At first we thought it was the extension chord but quickly found out it was the heater itself. This product didn’t even last a year an for the price I expected not to have to purchase another one anytime soon. Yet here I am purchasing a different brand because I don’t trust this one. Literally used it one winter an then it will not work. As soon as it’s plugged into a outlet the breaker flips. We gave it a day inside the house thinking maybe it needed to dry off. It didn’t. Still flips the breaker every time. My advice unless you want to spend 70$ every winter don’t buy this product. They don’t even stand behind it for a guarantee. By the time it doesn’t work you can’t return it or request a refund. It’s infuriating how much was spent on something that only got one winter use out of it. Received water heater in 1 day, just in time for the cold freeze. Water heating element works as advertised. Highly recommend Farm Innovations water de-icer 150 watt. I lut de-icer in my rent-a-coop water container. Minus 15 degrees with wind chill in Tulsa. Water nipple and water flows great! And De-icer is MADE IN THE USA! Cost twice as much as the Chinese Junk but I am still willing to pay the price. You get what you pay for. ... show more

This product saves me from having to bring kettles of boiling water out to the coop every morning when the temps stay below freezing. It will keep water very warm if you leave it plugged in. When I've forgotten to unplug it, the chickens stand around the waterer like it's a hot spring! I believe it's best used to keep water from freezing solid to begin with. I plug it in for about 10 minutes morning and night and that keeps the layer of ice from getting thick enough to block the drinkers. The drinking cups sometimes still need to be de-iced, though. Bought two and used for one winter, worked great. This year one of them is tripping the GFCI, you can see the plastic/black wrap bubbled around the base of the metal. For an expensive product I would think it should last a bit longer. Going to replace with a cheaper model that I won't feel bad about replacing yearly if needed. ... show more
