  • The real Ark Survival Evolved 9.5/10
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Before i review this awesome game I'd just like to ask a simple question When did consumers become so stupid? A new thing in the 8th generation of console gaming has been Paying hard earned money for a preview/beta of a game (That isn't even guaranteed to be the final version or even released for that matter) People are paying a premium to test out a beta Shouldn't it be the other way around? Ark Survival Evolved is one of these Preview titles that looks like a Dreamcast game and the gaming community being the suckers they are Pay for a unfinished game then go nuts for it like it's the best thing since slice bread If you loved Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon but, Far Cry 4 was somewhat of a let down This is the game for you Far Cry Primal is hands down the best 8th Generation game put out by UbiSoft to date Story: The story itself is very basic to some extent Your a caveman during the stone age your goal is to survive and build a community Controls: If you played previous FC games you'll get the hang of it pretty quick the combat is primitive but, it also adds more layers how to play using fire is a huge tool The only major negative with the controls are when you try and use the eagle to scout ahead of you Then things feel "off" Audio very impressive the music score is HQ you also have a lost language so there is no English being spoken But, there's subtitles Each animal you encounter has there own sound very organic Graphics also very impressive the caveman look strange at first but, It's 10,000 BC They shouldn't look like modern humans The environment also looks awesome from the rain effects, water even the day/night cycle All the animals also look very real/life like most of the time Once you tame a animal and they join you At any point when the animal is with you you can heal them (with meat) or pet them There is a strange graphic animation when you try and pet most of the animals you tame When you pet them then the animal looks more cartoony... It's a little jarring at first besides that almost every animal looks amazing the way they move and act is close to spot on Gameplay: If you played any of the previous Far Cry games Primal is just that but, it's turned on it's ear being set so far back The challenge is very balanced but, you'll die a lot Some of the animals you first encounter are relentless The various animals are the biggest threats The open world itself is massive in scale the biggest problem with such a huge map is getting from point A to point B Once you start taking over areas you can fast travel but, there's a lot of ground to cover The environments go from green forests to snow covered mountains Hunting is once again a major gimmick in the Far Cry series Everything you hunt has a purpose Don't get-off on killing animals even in video games But, you kind of have to if you want to level up and conquer the land This is one of the best experience I've had with a FPS since the Bioshock games/Far Cry 3 If you want a solid unique FPS that's really like nothing out there at least rent this to see if it's your type of game It's ambitious and very different 9.5/10 MS Gamertag Duckman 1979 ... show more

  • Just as fun as prior installments. Get it!
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
I'm a fan of prior Far Cry games, and so far I've loved this one just as much. This one has almost identical mechanics to the last Far Cry, and technologically, I don't think they've made any advancements (they didn't really need to). Upgrading weapons was always a favorite part of the game, and this game has some of that although I made most of my upgrades very early on. I mostly used spears and arrows, and early on you have a very limited number of shots with each of these. There is no economy in the sense that you never find money or sell/barter the things you find. If you recover pelts you don't need, you can't sell them (there's no currency, and no real bartering system). There is LOTS of crafting; all of your weapons can only be upgraded with various items around the open world. You also need these items to build and upgrade huts for the experts in your village. There's a lot of freedom in the main quest, less of a linear storyline, at least early on. I woudl strongly suggest finding your experts early in the game (expert crafter, expert hunter, expert warrior, etc) in order to rebuild your village. You pick the order in which you retrieve these experts. Walking around the open world is TONS of fun, as you run across animals you need to hunt; enemies to kill; and other opportunities at every turn. Walking 300 ft to an objective can take minutes, or hours if you stop to kill every Udam or Izila along the way. A few other thoughts: - I wish there were more strongholds, or at least the ability to replay them with different tactics. - Stealth seems near-impossible. My owl makes a kill and they all rush to my hiding place even though I'm not visible? I set a building on fire on the opposite side of the village, and the bad guys all magically seem to find me? I hide in a hut out of sight of any passing guards, and they get alarmed on the other side of the wall? - Bad guys respawn quickly. I killed 6 Izila before early dawn, then realized I was moving towards a dead-end. I turned around to backtrack and had to kill the same 6 Izila again. - Too many animal attacks sometimes. Playing this morning, I walked 150 ft to an objective. I was attacked by a leopard, then a sabertooth, then another sabertooth, then another 2 leopards. These attacks were all back-to-back (meaning I was collecting spears from a carcass when the next beast jumped on me). Overall, it's a very detailed, immersive game that most FPS players will enjoy. It overlaps a lot with the last installment of Far Cry, which doesn't really detract from your enjoyment of it. That being said, they didn't reinvent the wheel with this game, and I suspect they could produce 2-3 titles like this each year. I'd love to see Far Cry set in medeival times (like Skyrim, but without the fantasy element); or Far Cry set in the Old West (like a first person Red Dead redemption). ... show more

  • Make sure you go ride that one creature waaaaaay over there!!
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
'Which creature' not gonna tell you and spoil the game. 'What skill do I need?' Again, not gonna tell you and spoil the game. I will tell you that you get to ride many, many creatures, and find lots of things, like handprints and bones, and oh this is shiny! What was I saying? Oh, that's right I like that the game is in the primal era of man It's a fun adventure seeing what it was like to live in caves and hunt things with MASSIVE teeth! I do like that there's lots to explore, hunt, craft, build, rescue, and experience. But I don't like that all of the collectible items are almost impossible to find, I have low vision problems so finding these extremely small collectibles is much more challenging. Review edit1/30/25 There is something that I don't like about this game, I can't understand ANYTHING BEING SAID without subtitles turned on! Sure I catch an occasional word that I can understand, but having the subtitles turned on just to understand what's being said is aweful! ... show more

  • Interesting game....thought provoking message....
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
I really enjoyed playing this game. The idea of roaming our world as it had once been, filled with abundant animal and plant life was a nice break from the stark reality of our polluted environment. The play was similar to others in the Farcry series, with take downs, camps to conquer and a few boss enemies. It was nice to have a community to return home to and share resources with, something we need more of today. I am not into hunting games as such but the idea of using the skins and meat for survival made that aspect less unpleasant. The land was beautiful and diverse and obtaining the items you needed was challenging without being so difficult you wanted to pitch the remote. Unlike most of the Farcry series there wasn't an overt political tone, no drug trade or nefarious CIA agents to get past, however I realized in the end that there was a message about government. When I had taken down the last enemy chieftain, he handed me his baby before dying and said he hoped I lived many years and did not catch his sickness. I looked around the world map and thought back on all the rival tribes I had killed, mostly in retaliation because my tribe, the Wenja, were killed for hunting on their land. The "enemies" also engaged in customs they didn't like and were portrayed as brutal in some way. It dawned on me that I had his sickness. Just because the Wenja acted all innocent and sweet did not give them the right to force their way of life on others and wipe them out. I had been their own personal CIA. I was just replaying the John Wayne archetype, save the holy innocent from the intractable bad guy. Near the end, the people my beast killed were not even soldiers anymore, just unarmed villagers. I had prided myself on seeing the Wenja symbol appear on other other people's land...never thinking how much the bird looked like an American Eagle. ... show more

  • All of these tasks are fun, but sometimes its hard to care much about ...
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Its the year 10000 BC and you're wandering around the land of Oros seizing bonfires, liberating camps, completing missions and hunting. All of these tasks are fun, but sometimes its hard to care much about what you're doing since you can't relate to the characters. The voice acting for the tribal language is very well done, but I found it hard to get emotionally invested in the struggles they faced. The gameplay is very responsive and the performance is near perfect at a locked 30 frames. The game feels good to play and the audio quality is spot on; everything from a a mammoths cry in the distance to the shattering of your club as you ram it into someones skull. The biggest problem I have with the game is regarding the environmental variety. I know the game takes place in 10000BC, but it would be nice to see more than a couple of rock formations and huts made of sticks each time I discover a new location. Maybe Ubisoft got the time period a little too right if you know what I mean. The map feels very empty. The most fun I had usually came from lighting bonfires and exploring caves. The gameplay is what holds Primal together. There's tons of topography and wildlife to appreciate, but without interesting environments and meaningful tasks to complete, the game gets repetitive quite fast. Story-wise, I would consider Primal to be one of the weaker Far Cry games, but if you're looking for a setting that's different from the norm and happen to have a knack for taming beasts and using them to liberate encampments, then you're sure to love this game. ... show more

  • New Far Cry Awesome, Ignore the Trolls!
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
First off I would like to address the problems of trolls on Amazon. All the people who gave this game a one star, I looked at their profile and most if not all are ppl who give everything one star, give Xbox products one star, or are just plain trolls. It's just annoying when you look at reviews to judge if you want to buy a product and ppl are giving bad reviews for no reason. Ok I'm off my troll rant. The game is amazing, the graphics are beautiful, and the gameplay is just plain fun. It's pretty much what you would expect from far cry series with primitive twist. You have to hunt and craft to survive. Also arrows run out quickly and spears and clubs break, so hunting and searching for supplies is a must. I was honestly hesitant to pre-order this game bc I wasnt sure if I would like using primitive weapons. But a couple hours in and I don't miss modern weapons at all. It's really satisfying getting headshots with arrows or brutally killing an enemy with a club. I also like the story line and characters so far as well. The only thing I'm not too fond of is this made up language and reading subtitles the whole game. I know they weren't speaking English in 10,000 bc but in all games we forsake reality for common language. I'm pretty sure they weren't speaking this jibberish either. But that being the only con I def recommend this game! Ok now that I have almost finished the game let me add one more con. I was disappointed of the lack of choices in this game. What made me love FC 3&4 was the choice branches and how those choices effected the ending of the game. In primal there is no choice branches. And I'm pretty sure there's only one ending. ... show more

  • Very unique one-of-a-kind game-play!
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Wow! - If you love Far Cry series you will find this game equally exciting and challenging to play. I must say that if you are tired of all the games that are on the market which uses guns and bombs then using mere spears and arrows to fight with animals and defeating enemies would be a very refereshing welcoming change in game-play. The developers at UBISOFT has done just that in this game. Kudos for that brave move! This is by far the only game on the market that boldy shows that prehistroic age in a gaming setting. Yeah! it is very challenging initially to fight with bows, clubs, spears but as you progress in the game the cleverly crafting mechanics makes the game-play just as enjoying as in any other Fary cry series of games. IMHO, The story-line is rather weak but this game does deliver hours of excitement and fun. If you have played Far Cry 4 then you will find the game-play very similar but the stage is set in the prehistoric age where you are supposed to survive in a rather hostile environment and work your way up by crafting bows and arrows, killing animals for meat and food, taming animals for fighting along with you. This very unique one-of-a-kind game-play keeps one occupied for a long time. This is no doubt a very good game. Graphics are stunning on Xbox one and if you have a 4K UHD TV you will find yourself completely immersed in the prehistoric age. Rating this game with five stars! - Loving it. ... show more
