  • A really nice set to not be Lego
Love this set so much! I have already experienced book nook stuff that were the tin cardboard/hobby wood materials and like them a lot. I love this far more! Clearly it is not a real Lego brand but for a knockoff I must say it is highly detailed. I will also say this is the easiest non Lego kit I have done that did not kill your fingers to fully seat the pieces into place. I wpuld absolutely suggest this kit to an Alice in Wonderland lover or classic children's stories lover. ... show more

  • Getting better
I am a diehard Lego enthusiast and have more than 1800 sets in my collection. As a coronary, I have been always opposed to the knockoff brands that directly steal Legos intellectual property. While the stud in tube design is open source, many of the bracket element designs are still proprietary to the Lego group. So I have eschewed anything to do with these clone brands. Having said that, I was encouraged to try out this one because it follow the idea of the book nook sets that Lego has recently released. I love the three of them that we have already, and my wife wanted this one to go on our shelf of classics. So I set out to build a set as a newbie wood, who didn’t have any experience with other Lego kits. I have to say I was surprised at how good the experience actually was. It’s clear these brands have learned a lot from Lego. The build itself is divided into about 25 bags each one prominently numbered. To begin you simply open the instruction book, find bag one and get to work. The instructions are good they still not as good as what you find in a regular Lego set. There are often too many assumptions made in each numbered instruction and a builder will have to stop and make sure that he she has got all the right pieces laid out and pressed into place. The instructions overall are smaller on the page. Sometimes four instructions are listed on 1/2 sheet page. This is about double what Lego does. It makes the instruction book thinner with fewer pages, which is why I suspect it’s like that. So you’ll need to exercise some caution and maybe even get out of magnifying glass or a light to see all the things that are happening in each build number. Having said that, the building design is actually pretty good. They have clearly absorbed several modern legal billing techniques, and I even found a couple I had never seen before. There were also a handful of unique bricks that are not copies of Lego bricks. This was an epiphany to me. I assumed these companies simply ripped off Lego brick designs. But to find several new bricks that fill the unique niche was actually pretty cool. I also found several colors. The Lego does not have including additional shades of Brown. The mini figure designs are still terrible and this is because they’re not allowed to copy the Lego mini figure aesthetic. The set also included light bricks, and the instructions for these are woven into the build rather than being an add-on to be done later on. I appreciated that. Running the tiny wires can be cumbersome and tedious, but I don’t see any way around it. My biggest surprise overall was the vast improvement in the quality of the materials used in the bricks themselves. Past clone brands, I have experience used overly slick and shiny materials that made the bricks harder to hold onto and gave it a strange Luster machine that was unpalatable to my tastes. None of those things were true in the set. The brakes are much closer to feeling like true Lego bricks. The anti-stud attachment points on the bottom are actually improved in some ways in some bricks. This was also unexpected. For example, individual round studs connect fully without using the octagonal pressure plates inside like Lego studs do. This means that individual single stud connection points are actually tighter than a Lego. I appreciate this in some ways. In the end, the book nook of Alice in Wonderland came out looking pretty good. I’m still not a big fan of the light brick system, but that’s just my personal opinion. All in all it took me about three hours to build an experience was almost as pleasurable as a similar sized Lego set. Having said all this there is still a noticeable difference between Lego bricks and these, but that noticeable difference is getting smaller all the time. I’m happy to recommend this, especially for those individuals who are not LEGO purists or are enthusiastic about book nook like I am. ... show more

  • Clever book nook with mirror-like plastic, cute look-down design, but bent sticker sheet 🧱📚✨
🧰 First impressions This Wonderland Reflection book nook is a pretty neat little set. The whole idea of looking down into the scene through the clear front piece is cool, and it gives the finished build more depth than a normal small display model. 🔧 Setup / build The brick quality feels similar to the other CAYI sets: usable, middle-tier blocks. They go together fine, but they are not as refined as LEGO or other premium brick brands. The build has a lot of small decorative pieces, so it is better for patient builders. 📦 Box / parts The clear “glass” piece is actually plastic, but it is very clear and still gives a convincing mirror/window effect. That part works better than I expected and helps sell the reflection-style design. ✅ Pros • Creative book nook concept • Clear plastic panel looks surprisingly good • Cool look-down / reflection effect • Nice fantasy bookshelf theme • Good display piece once finished 🙂 Trade-offs • Brick quality is middle-tier, not premium • Lots of small decorative pieces • The sticker sheet is too large for the packaging and arrived bent • The sticker bend goes through part of the side image, which is avoidable 💡 Tips Check the sticker sheet before starting. They really should have pre-folded or packed it differently so the bend did not cut through the artwork. 🧑🔧 My take This is a clever little display set. The plastic mirror/window effect is the standout feature, and the overall idea is more interesting than a plain block model. The bent sticker sheet is annoying, but the set itself is still pretty cool for the price. ... show more
