The blades work well out of the box on one end only. The thickness is tapered correctly but the cutting clearance on one end is going the wrong way. It was hard to get good pics that show the difference but the first two are the correct cutting clearance on one end and the last two pics show the other end with clearance ground the wrong way. That end likely won't cut and probably jam and break the blade. However, it doesn't need any work done if only the correctly ground end is used. If you have a "cheapie" harbor freight mini-lathe (7x10), then this tool is for you, especially if you're just starting out and practicing.
