  • Is the fence investment worth it when the collars are so expensive and apparently fragile.
Pattern Name: Standard Collar
When I moved I had to get a new fence kit which was no big deal because of how effective it always has been. Still no complaints about the fence but the collars are another story. With my first kit I only had 1 dog to start then adopted another and bought the additional collar. Original collars battery indicator light stopped working which concerned me. Contacted the company and they sent a replacement. Fast forward a year and I ended up keeping 2 puppies from a litter. Again purchased additional collars (was over $300 for both) and planned to just buy the fence if I ended up accepting a new job and moving. I just bought these last March and 1 isn't working at all I discovered by finding my dog in the road and the other seems to be glitching 🤬 I depend on this hefty investment to work so my dogs are safe and not wandering where they shouldn't be. Not sure why the 3 I bought as additional collars seem to be so much worse than the one that came in the first kit. Idk what I'm going to do next because I don't want to have to chain them up but I can't afford another $300+ for more collars. ... show more

  • Reliable and works great and terrific customer services at the company as well.
Pattern Name: Standard Collar
These are Pricey , but they are the best, and most reliable. The Extreme Dog Fence company has great customer service if you have any issue, and they are fair with replacements we have purchased 4 of these collars, one quit working after a year and i only paid a percentage to replace it, Joon did manage to break one.. I'm not sure how, they are very well built.. the replacement batteries are pricey too, but if you shop around you can find some bulk replacements.. just don't buy the BARK COLLAR ones by mistake.. they don't fit :) Once your doggin understands his boundaries the batteries will last a long time. ... show more

  • That will fix him!
Pattern Name: Stubborn Collar
After three glorious years of not having to worry about my dog running off, he decided that the short zap was worth chasing a bird, rabbit, SKUNK. Although he would just come back as far as the fence in order not to get the inevitable poke until I would walk out to him. Then deciding that the poke was better than me helping him back across the fence. Time to upgrade!! This baby works great. Programing is so easy. It is a bit bigger than the standard, but he doesn’t seem to mind. He has been a good boy ever since. ... show more

  • Great system, great warranty
Pattern Name: Standard Collar
This system and collar works well, even if batteries are expensive. However, sometimes the plastic is brittle and can break. Just remember it comes with a 5 year warranty and they really stand behind it.

  • Worth the money! Heavy duty stuff
Pattern Name: 2000' Expansion Pro-Cable
After reading some reviews about broken coating issues, I was a bit nervous to buy this. But, I needed a heavy duty, high insulation option to put in a new underground fence. I tested it on the spool before putting it in the ground, and instantly my system worked, so we knew we were good to go. We learned after using 20 guage wire that came with our system 8 years ago, and fixing breaks over and over, that we weren't going cheap again. It was thin, and broke so easily (not this brand's wire). We used a dog wire trencher, and this went in beautifully! It took us 2hrs to do 4 acres. I will say though that instead of putting the 2,000ft spool on the trencher, one of us walked ahead and put the spool on a rod, laying out the wire beside the trencher. This eliminated any kinks from happening and also insured that we weren't pulling on the wire we just put in. 2,000ft was quite a hefty amount. We have plenty left, and I hope we don't have to worry about it for many years to come. Very impressed, and would highly recommend ... show more

  • Cracking is inevitable and voids any waterproofing. Replacement is too expensive
Pattern Name: Standard Collar
TL;DR: Be very very very gentle when tightening the casing after inserting batteries into the unit. Again, the plastic is extremely weak and any cracks will essentially guarantee the death of your expensive device. Cracking is a common problem and will allow moisture to get it. DO NOT LET moisture get in! You may even want to put a thin strip of tape around the casing to further protect it from water/environment. It's quite easy to remove with scissors and it's only someone you will have to do every few months. Full Summary: I've owned this product for a little over a year and I'll be explaining what I like about it, but more importantly some of its downfalls and what you can/should do to make the most of this product if you absolutely have to buy it. I will say from experience, the majority of the package works as intended. That being the digital transmitter, which you have to keep inside or get a weather box, the boundary wires, and the twisted wire (which I have not used, mind you), but I assume it will work well as it seems to be made of good quality. Just an FYI, the warranty does not cover the wires, so I am thankful I have not had any issues with the black boundary wire yet. Where this product starts to show it's weakness is in the "Waterproof Active collar. Honestly, all the pitfalls really stem from here. Let's start off by listing some of its features, it is listed to be submersible to 10 feet; however, I would not test this due to some build quality issues, and warranty issues I'll get to later on. They do come with a set of rubber comfort covers that are included for comfort, but they do wear pretty fast and you have to replace them. I highly recommend the comfort covers, as I initially put them on my dog without them and he started to get a nasty burn on his neck. The same happened with my other dog, so I know this was not an isolated incident. It's true, the collar/receiver is very light and is listed to weight only 1.1 Ounce, it almost feels hollow. It takes a proprietary 6v battery, which is listed to last around 4 months if your dog knows not to get close to the boundary. Let's quickly go over that again. • Proprietary battery • Not really optional covers • "waterproof" here is where we get to the biggest problem of all. The blue plastic casing of this receiver is very cheaply made As many others have pointed out in the reviews, it will crack. It is not a matter of if, but when it cracks. Remember, even if you bought the version with a 10 year, warranty, it is a limited warranty. This means if the product cracks due to a defect you can get a free exchange within the 1st year. After the 1st year, you still have to pay a whopping $75 out of pocket. I feel like the description should mention that, or their website at least, it feels a little misleading… When not if, the casing starts to crack it will no longer be waterproof. Rust can and will get inside and stop the product from working. I live in Southern California and it has only rained I want to say a maximum of 5 times where I have lived within the last year, yet this product only started to malfunction a month or so ago. So I am guessing normal moisture in the morning damaged the product from inside once the product cracked. You may by now have realized the overall problem with this receiver… it is meant a perpetual money sink after you have bought the original product, like buying ink for a printer. Only in this case you are paying such a high premium for the product… you shouldn't have to continue to sink more money, but you do. The collar is built to break and if you get it replaced before the warranty.. (use that information as you please). Then they still expect you to spend $$$ on the proprietary battery and the not so optional rubber covers. Unfortunately, most of these good reviews are most likely within the first year where no issues occur and if they do, they get a replacement free of charge, which sadly does not paint an accurate picture of the real cost of this product over the long run, regardless of what type of warranty you have with it. Lucky, If you already bought the product or you in a niche situation like me where this product is a necessary evil, here are some solutions I have found that can help you circumvent some of these issues. #1 You do not need to buy proprietary batteries. You can search the comments or do your own research, I wouldn't want this review to be taken down for recommending another product. In short, you can stack the generic version, tape em up, and put them in the receiver and they work splendidly. Sure they may last slightly less time than the proprietary one, but they are a fraction of the cost and are still marginally more bang for your buck, seriously. #2After training most dogs eventually learn to stay away from the wire just by hearing the noise, Which means you don't need to replace the black soft covers on the prongs after they stop conducting, as the sound itself will keep your dog away. You can just loosen the collar as well. Or you could look for some aftermarket ones, I have not done the research to see if a cheaper alternative exists. #3 Be very very very gentle when tightening the casing after inserting batteries into the unit. Again, the plastic is extremely weak and any cracks will essentially guarantee the death of your expensive device. You may even want to put a thin strip of tape around the casing to further protect it from water/environment. It's quite easy to remove with scissors and it's only someone you will have to do every few months. Bonus for #3 This receiver is confirmed to receive the following frequencies 7khz & 4 kHz, which means you may be able to use an aftermarket receiver as a backup or replacement. Amazon does over free returns so you can just test a variety of them out, and if they don't work you can return them free of charge. This is a must if you are over your 1-year warranty. I am currently looking into this. Summary: Would have been a solid A+ product; however, the weakest link brings it all down. The collar/receiver, it's a huge money sink, and the 10-year limited warranty is a joke and borderline false advertising, mind you the only thing it really covers after a year is the Digital Transmitter and receiver. The receiver will be $75 w/ warranty. THe digital transmitter is not sold individually, only obtained through the original pack/kit, so who knows how much you would get a replacement if you have "warranty" ... show more

  • Extreme dog fence collar reciever
Pattern Name: Standard Collar
Works as it should how ever the original did not last but about3 years and the replacement cost was half as much as the entire fence system that was originally purchased. Over priced I. My opinion
