Description

Once upon a time, Claire Lewis dreamed she would take her camera to war zones to document political upheavals and expose grave injustices. Fate led her elsewhere. And while she might not be on assignment for The New York Times, her current job carries its own dangers: Claire is a wedding photographer. Her world is populated by stressed-out brides and the mothers who reared them, grooms who seduce bridesmaids, brides who change their minds, pass out, or dance on tables in tiaras, and the occasional couple who are truly in love. If you told Claire that you thought being a wedding photographer was glamorous, chances are she’d laugh and give you a list of reasons why it is not glamorous. What it is is unpredictable, funny, demanding, moving, and full of spontaneous moments that cause one to question the nature of love and relationships. As Claire says, it’s all that and it’s never dull. What more could you ask for?Told with great wit and exuberance, this memoir is a hilarious and touching account of one woman’s adventures in a career that she never saw herself in, and of how she braved those waters while also managing to fall in love and have a wedding of her own. A delightful, insightful read, Exposed: Confessions of a Wedding Photographer will make you see weddings in a whole new light. Read more

  • So True!
I love this book. Brief snippets of weddings interlaced with the author's personal story make this a lively and interesting read. As a former wedding photographer, I can assure you Claire isn't making this stuff up. And she tells it well. It makes me long to get out my camera and shoot a few more weddings myself. ... show more

  • Definitely a page turner!
As others have said, this book is a fast read. The stories are so crazy and interesting it's very hard to put it down. Since it's so engaging, I gave this book 4 stars, but I didn't find the author very likable at all. She was very critical and negative. Still, I would recommend this book because it IS very funny. ... show more

  • Entertaining
Not a bad book, although it seemed as though the author almost had nothing positive to say about shooting weddings and I began to wonder why she does them in the first place. There were a lot of humorous stories from weddings she has shot though that made it more readable.

  • "Exposed !" paints a beautiful picture with the written word
After hearing Claire Lewis interviewed on NPR, I (a budding film photographer) couldn't wait to order "Exposed!", Confessions of a Wedding Photographer. My wife (the best photographer I know)got ahold of the book before I did, and, as I had hoped, absoulutely loved it. She would giggle, laugh and cry,and I would continuously ask "what?...what?", until finally, I got to read the book as well. I would be hard pressed to think that anyone in the world hasn't at least attended a wedding, and even if you haven't, this is a fabulous read. Being acquainted with film and the darkroom, and how much work (but great fun!) it is, made me enjoy it that much more. I love the book like I loved my favorite books ever...those by James Herriot (All Creatures Great and Small, etc.). Claire Lewis has the ability to tell a great story. I highly reccomend this book, as there is something for everyone. You won't regret it!!! ... show more

  • A lot of fun and some useful tips
As an officiant I work with photographers every wedding. It was useful to see a wedding (and particularly the participants) from the other side of the camera. Some useful information for brides, grooms, and officiants.

  • Wonderfully entertaining and well-written
Hilarious and startling stories. Even better because the author has a wonderful style and gift for writing. I've shot some weddings myself, so I appreciate the book even more. One of the most fun reads in years.

  • for those who wish to know the business of wedding photography....
Interesting and helirious on some part. What I found the hardship and the problem faced by her is not much of different as from this part of the world. I definitely recommend this book to any wedding photographer to read this book at least once. ( though I am reading this book for second time but in part ) :-) ... show more

  • Very Entertaining, and Contains a Real Life Warning
Level set: I am an amateur photographer who has photographed four weddings. All four couples were charming, the weddings went well, and they were happy with their pictures. Claire Lewis has convinced me I've made the correct decision to have sworn to never photograph another wedding. Ms Lewis has a gift with words when she describes charming and not so charming individuals and situations. For example: "Myra flew through my door like a balloon with a puncture. She sputtered around the room making a lot of noise that sounded like 'hello how are you and oh my those are a lot of steep steps you have there and I really just can't breath and is all this your own work up here on the walls?' Finally, she deflated on the couch." (Page 45 hard cover edition). This is a great quick light read. I picked it up on impulse when the cover caught my eye, and I finished it within 24 hours. My wife read it over the next couple days, and now we have passed it along. Highly recommended; should be required reading if you're planning a wedding. ... show more
