So I just paid 1700 bucks for a Card with a 900 dollar MSRP to replace a Card that had a 600-dollar MSRP. AM I insane? Yes, but I have no regrets. A year ago, I didn't get in the EVGA queue, because I was happy with my RTX 2070 Super (definitely regret that). I was gaming on twin 34-inch Superwides at 21:9 UHD 2560 x 1440. Frame rates were good. Then I got a Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop and a dedicated wifii router. I upgraded to faster Memory with 64GB capacity and had the Quest 2 do some of the legwork with the spacewarp feature in Virtual Desktop. Performance was smooth, but quality was just acceptable at medium in VR. Then I got a Samsung 49-inch Super Ultrawide running 32:9 at 5120 x 1440 this past black Friday and it became clear The RTX 2070 Super just wasn't going to cut it anymore if I wanted full screen 32:9 gaming at those resolutions. Let me be clear upgrading to the RTX 30380 was a nightmare. First of all, it runs hot as hell (I think especially this XC3 model). Secondly, it draws 100 more watts than the 2070 Super. Fortunately, I researched requirements while I waited for this card to arrive, and I purchased a new power Supply in advance. I upgraded from a 650-watt Power supply to a Corsair 750 watt modular gold power supply. I popped in the card started gaming and it was stuttering immediately I began to panic, but I took a deep breath and checked temps. I realized immediately the card ran wayyyy too hot for my current chassis configuration. CPU was hitting 100 C and Ambient Temps in the Chassis was cooking with the 3080 in it. So I purchased a Corsair RGB H100i ICUE AIO 240mm cooler to replace my 120mm and I reconfigured the airflow and added fans. Now, I can play games in VR on Ultra and let me tell you the difference is INSANE. It cost me an arm and a leg but now I can get the best out of my screen and my VR games and for me that was worth it. The only downside is now my PC is basically a space heater because the new cooling system dumps heat out of my PC at such a high rate. My advice is If you are a medium quality PCVR or Pancake UHD player stay with a 2070 Super and wait for the RTX 4k series possibly launching this summer. But for 4k/5k Gaming or VR, if you can't wait, get the extra flops of 3080 or 3080ti because they make all the difference. Sidenote: Yes, it is nuts to pay what I paid but it also means I can sell my 2070 Super on Ebay for a nice chunk of change because of the current market so you need to consider that. Current bid on my old Card is currently at around 600 bucks which is the MSRP I paid for it 2 years ago, so you can offset the cost a bit. ... show more

Yes. Oh yes. Packaging: Box and card came in surprisingly pristine condition. I was worried about this the most, but there was solid protection, and protective covers on all the connectors (and a protective plastic wrap over the heat plate you'll want to remove). First Steps: The VERY FIRST thing you should do when you receive this card is check that the ID on the board matches the one on the box, and then IMMEDIATELY create an account with EVGA and register the card in your name so you have an active warranty. This card is a nontrivial investment, and registration is quick & painless. Price: I have been waiting almost two years for this moment. This is as close to MSRP as we've ever seen this puppy get. I jumped on the opportunity, as it's also quite literally the only 3080 that will even remotely fit in my micro ATX case. It gets a little hot, but far below maximum. I can now run most games at max settings. In fact, the only ones that still have sub-60fps at a 4K resolution are Star Citizen and Microsoft Flight Simulator, but pop those down to 1080p and you're above 60fps, whereas without the new gpu, they would fluctuate from 15fps to 30fps. Power Requirements: Keep in mind, we've reached a plateau of power usage and the nextgen 4000-series looks pretty bleak from here. I upgraded my 650w psu to an 850w to prevent throttling at high usage, and am flat out unwilling to put up with 1.5kw for a 4080, much less wait to find out whether any manufacturer will even be able to make one that fits. No thanks. This 3080 will do perfectly until we see those power requirements optimized. So far, so good. I love this card. Don't forget to enable resizeable bar in your bios, enable hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling in your OS, set your OS & nvidia power profiles to performance mode, and set your nvidia shader cache to 10GB! ... show more

    • Does everything I ask of it
I bought this so I'd have my 3070 out of my main PC for use in another project, the price at the time was only a little bit more expensive than another 3070. The performance difference is noticeable for me between the two, but I game at 1440p, if you're playing 1080p you may not see as much of a difference. Regarding the card itself (RIP EVGA), don't be concerned about it using 2 PCI-e 8 pins vs. 3, unless you're planning on water-cooling and overclocking the card like crazy you'll be fine. I would definitely recommend having each 8 pin plug use a different PCI-e cable on your power supply (in other words, don't use a daisy-chained 8pin + 8pin PCI-e cable, use two separate 8 pin cables). This card is a little bit shorter and thinner than the FTW3 version that's more popular, but the three fans it has will still take care of you. It does run a bit hot, like most 3080's, but so long as you keep good airflow over it you won't suffer on temperatures. If you don't like a card with a ton of RGB lighting, this is also the card for you. The EVGA logos on the top side (where the power connection is) and the backplate do light up, but nothing beyond that. You will need to download the EVGA Precision software to control them, and this software can also be used to overclock the card if you're so inclined. With the way GPU prices are going these days, this card is going to be my daily driver for the next few years at least, but this thing remains a beast, unless you're comparing it to a 4090. Then again, this isn't (anymore) being sold for $1,600+, so... ... show more
