  • my favorite was SwissGear
I am a busy executive who travels all over the world and I typically go through a backpack about once a year. I've tried them all and until I bought this one, my favorite was SwissGear. I decided to spend more and I looked around for two months before selecting the Everki Titan. I DID NOT receive any discount for this review and it's truly an honest evaluation of the product. To begin, I need a pack that can carry an 18.5 inch laptop and an iPad at the same time and still have room for misc electronics, documents, water bottle, medicines, and more. I am hard on backpacks and they go through a lot of airports and get thrown around a bit, so I wanted something rugged and well made. Over the past 25 years, I have learned a lot about what makes a great backpack, and I'm going to break it down for you here. 1. Large enough to carry a lot, but not too large for overhead bins on smaller regional jets. This one is perfect. 2. TSA friendly so I can quickly unzip the bag and display both my PC and my iPad. Perfect! The TSA guy was impressed with this bag. 3. Comfortable so that I can carry 25 pounds of stuff and not feel beat up. No problem; this bag is amazingly comfortable. 4. Lots of pockets and compartments. This bag rocks! It has so many pockets and compartments and it will impress you. 5. Padded enough to protect my computers, but not too much added weight. Perfect again! Really well designed. 6. Pocket that is not too easy to find where I can store my passport and plenty of cash. Done deal! 7. Support straps that make sure everything stays snug in its place. The front straps are truly amazing and well designed. 8. A quick pocket that will hold a candy bar, newspaper, or other items I want when I get to my seat on the plane. Perfect! 9. Heavy duty zippers. This is the first bag I have seen that got it right for under $500. I am blown away by their quality. 10. Balanced design that makes it easy to carry a lot of items without uneven pressure points on my back. Perfect! 11. Heavy duty fabric that can take a beating, resist rain, and last for years. Yep. This bag even comes with a rain cover! 12. A handle that is comfortable without looking like a tow rope. Again, perfect and truly well-designed. 13. The ability to expand it if needed to hold clothing for a quick overnight trip. Absolutely. No more extra carry on bag. 14. Stylish without looking like a college bag for a roadie in the band. Looks as good as a Tumi. 15. Side pockets that can carry pens, wallet, bottles of water. The pocket even has a built-in bungee to hold larger bottles in place! 16. The ability to set the back upright and not have it constantly falling over. Based on my loading of it, this has been perfect. 17. Belly strap to hold it in place if I take it hiking and want to make sure it is secure. I'll sneak in a hike when in Europe or Colorado. 18. Small top pocket that's perfect for train tickets, wallet, passport, cash, watch, etc. Very well done on this bag. 19. Access hole for headphone cord so my iPhone is inside the bag when I am tired and on a 3 hour train ride across Europe. 20. Ring on the front to hold my extra water bottle when on a longer trip such as a 6 hour ferry crossing in Asia. 21. Extra stiching all around the bag to ensure strength. This bag is the best I have ever seen. I rarely write a review on Amazon. However, as someone who has invented a number of products, I think it's important to call out a vendor who did more than just create an average product for a quick buck. These guys had to have put years of thought into how to build a world-class backpack, and they must have done a lot of traveling, or put together a focus group of travelers. In the past, I would start to see backpacks coming apart after a year to 18 months of heavy travel. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one last for 10 years and I hope it does. I may even buy another one and put it in the closet for the future. Hopefully, this company is doing well and will be around for a long time. They have a loyal customer who will be back again. The price for this backpack is spot on. If you're thinking about buying something cheaper, don't waste your time and money. This product is a great choice! I want to personally thank their design team for giving me a pack that will make my life so much easier when traveling around the world. GREAT JOB!!! ... show more

  • Awesome backpack, still going strong after 4+ years
I bought the Titan back in Dec of 2015 and it has been my primary backpack/murse for most of that time. I have occasionally used one of my smaller messenger bags for specific situations where I don't need a lot of stuff with me, but this is my go-to bag for all of my travel and the "I need to lug a lot of stuff around" days. So, where to start? I guess I'll go with the features that I like: a) Durability - I was a little amazed when I looked on my Amazon account and saw that it had been over 4 years since I bought this bag. It's been a reliable workhorse that entire time. I've taken it on short and long trips by plane and car and it's never let me down. The straps are still comfortable and the padding at the back still does a great job. Everything still works well to distribute the load comfortably and it's something that I especially appreciate when I'm at airports or wandering around someplace new. Aside from a few stains in the orange lining (my fault) and a little bit of sagging and a tendency to roll onto its front or back instead of standing the bag still looks as good as new and I've never had a problem being able to cram it full of stuff (including multiple laptops and tablets). B) Design - Before this bag I had sworn by my Swissgear backpacks. Those are still good bags (and I still have a couple as backups) but I love how roomy the Titan is and how well thought out and roomy it's pockets are. There are no useless micro-pockets in this bag. They are all capable of carrying something useful and I can always find a place for everything I'm lugging around. Tthings like it's phone/media player pocket at the top and the small accessory pouch that it came with have become indispensable when I'm using it. I can easily organize myself so that this is a great daily-use backpack and it's easy to throw some more stuff in for business or personal travel. C) Waterproofing - I've only had to use the rain cover a few times but it worked perfectly every time and I have weathered some pretty substantial downpours without any issues with my gear. It is a little clunky having to stop and put on the cover, but I can't really think of a more secure way to close up all openings so that water doesn't infiltrate. When the rain is done and I dry the cover off it's surprisingly easy to pack back up into it's spot in the bag so that you have it the next time you need it. It doesn't take up much space so I'm never tempted to take it out and end up not having it when I need it. D) Travel - The computer compartment is a great feature. I know a lot of laptop bags zip open like it does to go through x-rays but the combination of fleece and straps etc make this a great compartment that I've never had an issue with while I'm traveling. It's also huge so it's easy to carry multiple laptops or tablets. No one likes dealing with the TSA but it's nice knowing that this bag goes through easily. I kind of suspect that the bright orange interior lining makes it so that the agents can easily see what's in there and they let it by more easily than bags with darker colored interiors. With all the good though there are a few things that are negatives but they're fairly major. A) It's VERY easy to load enough stuff into this backpack to make it VERY heavy. I won't say you will overload the bag (it seems to handle the loads just fine) but you might overload your back. Mine has handled any and every load I've throw at it without any problems. That being said I know I've been pretty wiped out after some long walks with it. That's not the bag's fault, but it's good to keep in mind that this bag is big enough (40L) that you can easily load it up with more stuff than you really want to carry with you. B) It does not have a luggage strap. I occasionally need to travel with a suitcase of some sort and it would be nice if I could slip the (usually) heavy bag off and let it roll along with my wheeled suitcase. That's probably the number one feature that I keep wishing it had. c) Orange is not my favorite color. It's not my least favorite color, but I wish they had picked a different interior fabric color. I do like the contrast with the mostly black cables, computers, etc. that I end up throwing in there, but still it's very orange and I don't like the look of the back quite as much as I might otherwise. It is very useful, but not all that attractive/appealing of a color. D) It is expensive, but I really do feel like you get what you pay for. So that's it. If your budget can handle it and you need a tough reliable backpack that can handle large loads and travel then I would unequivocally recommend this bag. After four years it hasn't let me down and it has far out performed all of my previous backpacks. ... show more
