Both pieces made from a cast Iron like and painted metal. The three flathead screws that some are talking about are plenty large to keep it all together - no worries. There is also a center drain hole to remove rain water. Made in Vietnam. Dimensions are different at 23" overall diameter at top of bowl, and overall height of 8.3" (8.7" said on box). I'm using a hollow threaded light fixture rod nipple to attach this to an existing stand. Thus allowing for drainage still. Wood sold in most stores. I have the extra large Esschert firepit, which I love. Very heavy duty. Will last for years. It is roughly 30" diameter. Very heavy, though -- 80+lbs. I wanted to give someone a firepit for Christmas. They are older and I wanted one they could move, so I got this. The diameter is 23" NOT 24", as stated. While an inch might not seem a lot, it is noticeable, especially since the 24" is on the small side, anyway. The size also affects what screens can fit. While not as thick as the XL version, this unit is still much more robust than many of the pressed metal designs you will find at this price point. Just know what you are getting. I love these fire bowls / fire pots. they have the perfect low profit for small outdoor fires. We use them as accents around the pool area, which looks awesome at night. We recently placed them on 5 foot tall plinth/columns, which looks like ancient Rome. Love 'em. I need a few more, eventually. They are very heavy, very solid iron, so they hold up well outdoors, but are small enough to move around. Put a small grate in the bottom, and it keeps the wood off the drainage hole, and allows air underneath for real wood burning flames or firelogs. It even works well with jel flame packs as the small cans don't show over the top edge of the bowl. ... show more

I like it very much because it is simple and clean lined. However, if you have small children it's very low and I was a nervous wreck with some of my young family members around it. I felt like they could just trip and fall in.

This is real cast iron and is super solid. So far so good. I guess we'll see how it holds up over time. The packaging of the item was some of the worst I've ever seen (zero padding with the box almost falling apart from the heavy iron pieces knocking about) but I can live with the few scratches from bad packaging for the price. The comparable one from DWR didn't look any better in quality and it was $100 more. Let's hope it holds up. ... show more

The absolute perfect design and size for our small back patio! I absolutely love the rock solid construction and know this thing will probably outlive me! We added a small cast iron rack in the bottom of the bowl to help with airflow. It's truly a beauty!

Nice design, but it is smaller than you think. The product image must have kindling wood in it. - I wish I had looked carefully at the size....I have serving platters that are larger. - It comfortably fits 2-3 people around it, - but don't expect a lot of heat since the fire can only get so big. There is a larger size that is out of stock...wish I waited. ... show more

Love it! Just the right size for our yard. Small enough to easily stow when not in use. I put it on a 16" square paver stone to protect the grass from scorching. Ideal size for a small fire to set the mood and make some smores.
