Before putting it away for the winter we cleaned it off and sprayed it with high temp black paint (made for touching up grills) to keep it from rusting. Yes, the bowl is thin. My husband and I intentionally purchased a lightweight fire pit as we only use it when traveling. We have used this half a dozen times or so while beach camping because we like that we can stick the bowl right in the sand. Even with using it beside the ocean, it still has no rust. The bowl did turn white after the first use but that's not a problem for us. We're extremely happy with our purchase as it filled the need for us. Would buy again. ... show more

bowl is shallow and the metal very thin which means the fire zone is not going to get hot enough to maintain flames. my well-lit logs kept going out and smoking up the whole area. kinda disappointing. i think very small kindling sized wood MAY work better- the smaller the material the faster the fire can get to a point where its REALLLYY hot but thats not going to work for me. i like to just start it up and relax - not tend to it every waking second while i inhale woodsmoke. lol as far as the thing goes, its a cute design and big enough to have a quaint little fire. but that size def works against you for sure : ( o well.. ... show more

I bought the fire bowl from the Amazon Warehouse for almost half of the listed price. I expected some defect (bent or rust). It arrived in perfect condition. It is light weight steel. Just what I wanted. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.
