Description

The Equal-i-zer hitch’s integrated 4-Point Sway Control resists more sway than any hitch on the market, making it the best performing weight distribution hitch. Trailer owners across the country have voted the Equal-i-zer hitch the 1 hitch on the road for six consecutive years. The 90-00-1000 Equal-i-zer hitch offers a 1000 lb. maximum tongue weight and a 10,000 lb. maximum trailer weight. The shank allows a 3" drop and a 7" rise, measures 12" long, and fits 2" trailer hitch receivers. For over 70 years we have been keeping families safe on the road. Over 99% of our customers recommend the Equal-i-zer hitch to their friends, and our hitch has received national recognition for superior sway control and weight distribution. Every hitch is built from the highest- quality American steel, by people who care about your safety and take pride in their work. Whether you pass a semi-truck, experience gusty winds, or have to make a quick maneuver, our hitch will ensure your trailer stays right behind you, protecting both your trailer and your family. The Equal-i-zer hitch eliminates the need for add-on sway control devices and the hassle that goes along with them. With an Equal-i-zer hitch you don’t have to worry about restrictions on backing up or a tight turning radius. There’s nothing extra to hook up or take off. When the weight distribution is engaged, the sway control is engaged too, providing your family the best protection possible.

  • Takes some effort to setup and dial in, but it's worth it and is an excellent hitch.
Size: 1000/10,000 lb. Rating Without Hitch Ball
Excellent hitch and they've made them for years. This fixed my sway problems and does great at weight distribution after some tedious dialing in on the setup, it's worth the effort. I came across many reviews but Wandering Weekends had some great input. I may have went for something else but when the other head weighs over 100 lbs, this was an easy choice and does a great job. Seller had a good price, as described, and shipped faster than expected. ... show more

  • What a beast!
Size: 1000/10,000 lb. Rating Without Hitch Ball
I have a 29' Airstream that weighs about 5000 lbs. Shortly after I purchased it, I pulled it 200 miles home with no prior experience of having pulled something that large and heavy. Absolutely no issues. Zero swaying. I kept the speed relatively low (55 mph to 60 mph) but I could have gone faster if I wanted. So performance-wise, this gets all the stars. Setup and install, however, takes some effort, but not so much that I'd subtract any stars. First is finding a place to torque on the hitch ball. I purchased a 2 5/16 ball separately and the manual says that it should be torqued to 430 ft.lbs. An average homeowner does not have the socket or the torque wrench to do this. Most hitch places will not be able to do this either because it requires a thin-walled socket. There's very little clearance between the bar sockets and the socket has to recess into the hole to torque the nut all the way in. The manual recommends contacting a Equal-i-zer dealer to set up that install and that's what I did. Not all of them will be eager to help you out because the authorized dealers are also RV sales lots and they would much rather sell you the Equal-i-zer hitch at a premium AND charge you to install it. So when you walk in with a hitch already in hand, they're losing out of a couple of very high mark-up sales. I did find an awesome guy at the Bob Ledford's Adventure Motorhomes near Greenville, SC, who torqued it for me free of charge. I was already on my way to pick up the Airstream so if he hadn't helped me out, I don't know what I could have done. The rest of the install is fairly straightforward and it pays to watch the youtube videos and read the manual several times thoroughly. And the racket... First few times you pull with it, the noise level is incredible. It's like the pits of hell opened up right behind your tow vehicle and all the tortured souls are crying out. Creaks, pops, groans, and a few more noises I have never heard before. It's alarming, but it's telling you that it's working. The square bar basically rubs against the L bracket and very reluctantly slides as you make the turns. It makes that noise because it's carrying a lot of the load and it's metal on metal rubbing. When you're going straight, there's no noise but the tension is still there. So if a big semi blows by you or you get hit with a gust of wind and the trailer wants to fishtail, the square bars under tension hold the trailer steady. I can see the engineering behind it and it's damn good. I did some research before I purchased mine and I know that some load distributing hitches have issues with backing up. I'm happy to report that this does not. You do not have to remove the bars before backing up. ... show more

  • Great Product. Easy instal for a handyman.
Size: 1000/10,000 lb. Rating Without Hitch Ball
I purchased through Amazon and installed myself because for one, the RV dealer markup is ridiculous and I do not trust other people with things I can do myself and they charge too much for installation anyway. Be aware, the instructions tell you to use a torque wrench to tighten the ball that few people actually have because it costs over a thousand dollars and is like five feet long (ridiculous). I did have to purchase a very large socket for a few dollars to install it. Shops just use impact wrenches that are rated for the appropriate torque, and that is what I did, an RV shop torqued it down for me for free. My daughter and wife assisted me with installation (mainly for their benefit so they understood how it works and to expand their horizons) and it did not take long. We went to a truck stop with lots of room near our house because we live in the country with no concrete drive way that is flat. You will need a flat surface to do this correctly. It was not very difficult to install. I did use a small torque wrench for brackets on the travel trailer frame, but they are fairly inexpensive, and if you do this yourself, you may already have one. I hauled the travel trailer home from dealer with a heavy duty regular hitch and had to drive very slowly due to sway, my palms were sweating every time a big truck passed us. TT is 28' apx 5K# empty apx 500# tongue weight (I think), pulled w/F150; So I have a before and after experience, this product is awesome. Since installation, I go as fast as I want with no problem. I have experienced slight sway in areas with exceptional wind but slight. Does not come with the ball, and the one that is required is very specific; I went to three or four locations before locating it at NAPA auto parts. Has to be a certain length... I highly recommend this product, albeit it is the only one I used, but I picked it based on other good review and research I conducted prior to purchase. Some people are concerned with the noise it makes when turning sharply. This is normal, the sway control is a result of friction at multiple points, which is metal rubbing on metal, causing the noise. I have white grease in an aerosol spray can and spray every surface that moves or has friction prior to every trip and sounds are rather minimal now. My first trip with, before I was experienced with the hitch, kind of shocked me at amount of noise, but that was before I started greasing it up real good. I spoke with one old timer who has same hitch for years and he told me he uses a grease called Triflow, I have not used it yet, but will likely try it sometime. ... show more

  • No Sway, Good Weight Distribution
Size: 1000/10,000 lb. Rating Without Hitch Ball
I’ve now been using this hitch to tow my 20’ travel trailer that weighs about 4,300 lbs unloaded for 3 years. Since I never towed much without this, I can’t compare before and after, but I can say after 10,000+ miles of towing over 3 years, this unit is doing its job. I do not notice any sway, and it clearly distributes the weight of the camper hitch across all 4 wheels of my truck, shifting some of the weight to the front wheels as it should. Backing up with this unit on is not problem like it is with some other units. I strongly recommend following the instructions for proper adjustment by loading your camper and your tow vehicle like you normally would for trips, and then get to a flat surface to park on to make all the adjustments to the hitch according to the instructions. While this process took me some time to complete, including hitching and taking measurements, then unhitching to adjust the hitch using the holes on the adjustment shank as well as the washers, I believe it was well worth my time. Without proper adjustment, you can actually make the distribution of weight worse and have it work against you, thus causing you to have less control when towing. Since I tow with approximately the same weight loaded in the bed of my truck and inside my camper for most trips, I do not readjust the hitch. However, I’m sure it’s safer to periodically recheck and adjust as needed, something I will likely do before heading back out in early 2025. One negative was having to buy the hitch ball separately and then installing it, but the product said it wasn’t included, so this was no surprise. Since most of us do not have the tools needed to properly torque the ball on (425 ft lbs?? if I recall correctly), I bought the right size socket for the nut and took it to my local tire dealer where we buy our tires, and they had the right equipment to reach to recommend torque, and they did it for no charge. ... show more

  • Great Hitch !
Size: 1000/10,000 lb. Rating Without Hitch Ball
No doubt that you can't do without a sway control hitch on a 34' camper. I followed the manufacturer's video (watched a few times first) for installation and it was VERY easy. Having the correct torque wrench is vital for safety. Easy to install and easy to make sure it's set up properly. (Tape measure is all you need). I towed a short distance without it and the difference was obvious. This hitch does what it is advertised to do and makes the ride so much safer and more comfortable. ... show more

  • Works great on stock F150
Size: 1000/10,000 lb. Rating Without Hitch Ball
Immediate difference to driving stability on 2022 Ford F150. Still works with trailer backup assist. Yes, you can back in with it the same as before, in fact, it gives you a little more room before you would jackknife an a-frame trailer. The bars are tough to get into place - you have to learn where the “sweet spot” is for your truck/trailer combo. My advice is to bring a 12 inch level or smaller and jack up the truck and trailer until the bars are at or almost level and then move to connect them. Level is also about right to remove them. Torquing to spec is something you need to be aware of - spec for the ball is 450 ft/lb, 350 ft/lb for the connector bolts. You need to have a pro do it or get the appropriate impact wrench, torque wrench, and very large socket set. You can do it yourself, may be an excuse to buy new tools. The rig will make a lot of sounds when you start moving it around - sounds like big pops and cracks. Apparently that’s normal. Removing and installing it gets easier after the first time, but the first time will be an investment for you. Worth it 100%. Was really happy with this purchase. Go watch a few videos on trailer sway accidents to see what this is correcting for - knowing the trailer isn’t moving around really was a big relief when towing when you don’t have 3/4 or full ton truck especially. ... show more

  • I'd recommend you weight a CAT scale first before ordering.
Size: 1000/10,000 lb. Rating Without Hitch Ball
I thought I did all the math correct for my 4400 GVWR single axle 22' travel trailer. I added a power tongue jack, an extra 20 pound tank and a 2nd group 24 battery. I thought for sure I was gonna be fine with the 6k Hitch. Loaded my trailer with all the things on the inside it needs after the outside stuff, hit the CAT scale, I was at 24% with my hitch weight. Had to adjust and move things around to get under 15%. Long story short, I wish I would have went to the CAT scale first to get my true numbers before I ordered. I had to order the 10K. It came with all the parts. Boxes undamaged and both boxes! (My 6k was a disaster and actually had to get sent again!) I know the ad says "ball not included" but both of mine came with a 2 5/16" ball installed. This thing is heavy! The spring bars are heavy too! Instructions are easy enough but I used AI to verify my WDH % was correct because obs math is my strong suit. It fits like it should. I got mine for about $200 cheaper than going through the equalizer website, not sure why but everything was Equalizer and made in America. So I'd say it's a good value for the price. This is noiser than my 6k Because it has more pressure on the spring bars because they're different than the 6k. ... show more
