  • Great headphones, don't listen to negative nancy's....
Color: Black Style: Headset
Starting off, these headphones are kinda small. I don't see how so many people claim they are so big. They also claim they are "Average". I didn't know average size was below 5 feet.... I am 5'10 with a large head. Some people also claim it hurts their head. Seems to me they don't know how to adjust fitment. So. I get the package, I open it. I pull them out, and start to try to find the right fit. I adjust each side one by one to get the cups over my ears. STOPPING THERE would be a mistake, as at that point the top band is too tight on the head. I then go one more click on each side. This makes the top band merely REST on my head, as apposed to forcing down upon it. I wore these headphones today for the first time for over 4 hours while gaming, watching movies, and listening to music to test them out. My head DID NOT get hot like people claim (nor my ears). They were very comfy. The weight isn't a big deal. They are only like 50-80 grams heavier than my Beyerdynamic DT990 premiums (600 ohm version). In terms of audio quality, I am kinda of spoiled as my sound card is modified with new capacitors and custom soldered burr brown opamps. That mixed with these headphones, makes for a damn nice combo. Compared to the DT990 premiums, the sennheiser being closed back headphones, have better bass and even punchier mid bass. Compared to sennheiser 598's, these surpass the 598's in quality AND comfort. Granted, the 598's are open back just like the dt990's. Comparing once again to sennheiser hd700's, these have better bass as they are closed back compared to the 700's open back, but the 700's top end is much softer and nicer, where as the gsp 600 have kind of a harsh top end. To me, this is easily remedied by bumping up the bass just a little bit at 32hz and 60hz. Comparing AGAIN to akai profession 50x headphones (which are closed back like these) the akai have better bass but the top end is severely lacking the the highs seem like they are missing, while the gsp 600 are slightly harsh. All in all for the price, you are definitely getting quality. Anyone complaining they sound bad, are either using a cheap sound card or worse, on-board from a cheap motherboard. In terms of microphone quality, the only comparison i can make is VS the mod mic 5. In terms of how well the microphones pick up sound, the gsp 600 microphone seems to definitely pick up sound a lot easier, which means when using technology to mute background noises, it works more efficiently. Using my sound card for noise reduction, it works perfectly and makes me sound crystal clear, where as doing the same on the mod mic required me to also use acoustic echo cancellation.... these don't need it! So far on discord, they have noticed i sound a lot clearer, as well as picking up more of the low end of my voice, where the mod mic seemed to lack the bass-y-ness of my voice. So all in all a nice clear mic so people can hear me clearly and correctly. All in all I give this headset a 5/5. I was looking for a headset for gaming, as I have been constantly using studio grade headphones with the mod mic 5.... the studio headphones ive owned are mostly open back, meaning everyone can hear what i hear, and i can hear whats going on in the room. With these I can focus on the game more. Some people noted that when they use the mic, they find themselves talking louder because they cannot hear themselves due to the sound isolation, me personally i only notice this issue if there is dead silence. if there is any kind of sound going through the headset, i don't even notice that i can't hear myself because usually when you are listening to a game's sounds, you don't anyway! Any issues people have are personally on them. The point of this headset is to use the earcups for the main force to hold them on your head. As I said, I have a large head, I don't have to adjust the "special" adjusters on the top as they are already tight. Changing that top two bands results in the ear cups pressing onto my head even harder than needed. A smaller head person would probably do a click or two, and a child three or four setting. I would recommend these for gaming, music, and movies, with a proper sound card. Sennheiser recommends that you buy their 1000 or 1200 external dac, to properly drive the headphones in terms of "quality", not so much that they are "hard to drive" as even a cell phone can drive these headphones. I would LOVE for sennheiser to make a super crazy pair, using the same mic, but having the quality of their elite tier (hd600 or better), maybe lighter weight (not a big deal but many seem to complain) and maybe include a shorter cable. My sound card has an external volume control that i plug all my headphones/mics into, which sits less than 3 feet from me. A super short headphone cable would suit me well..... ... show more

  • The best gaming headset I have ever owned
Color: Black Style: Headset
I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I still want things to sound good. My Razer Blackshark started to die and I needed a replacement, so I shopped around and stumbled upon this headset from Sennheiser. I had heard great things about this company, with their simulated surround being second to none, so I decided if it was going to be something I would use every single day, I may as well splurge a bit and try them out, and I was not disappointed. The weird angle of the headset took some getting used to but now it sits very comfortably on my head, and the sound quality is phenomenal out of the box. It took some setting up with Windows to get the full experience but it still worked great. It actually convinced me to get the GSX 1000 amp to accommodate the headset, and that just made everything even better. The two devices together make some of the clearest, sharpest sounding audio I have ever experienced in an out-of-the-box set up. I couldn't be happier with this set up, and I intend to buy from Sennheiser again in the future when it's time to replace this headset. ... show more

  • Quality review by a professional game audio developer. Looking out for folks who have no clue.
Color: Black Style: Headset
Why this is a good product: -Speakers: Transparent stereo speakers that cover a larger frequency range than most headsets - clear and satisfying low end. Volume knob on the right exterior has a tension that feels good - has a satisfying feeling to it when you dial it in. This is extra convenient when somebody in your chat or meeting is super loud. -Mic: Exceptionally clear microphone (on par with the Sennheiser Skype and broadcaster headsets). Flip design automatically mutes - this is very convenient because it quickly gives you privacy to snack, talk to people in the room, or anything else that could be noisey, distracting, or embarrassing to you and or annoying to others in your chat. -Head strap: Highly adjustable head strap that relieves tension on and around the ears and jaw. Can be worn for a very long time with little to no physical fatigue on the ears and jaw. Takes a day or two to find the right setting for you and break-in to your head shape - you should expect slight discomfort during the break-in period. -Ear-cuffs: Comfortable ear-cuffs with quality cushions. -Headphone shell: Closed-back design is very isolating - doesn't completely mute or cancel out the background - that's good in case you have important alerts and or emergency sounds i.e. fire alarms, laundry buzzer, oven timers, etc. -Cords: Comes with two cords - a universal 1/8 inch male to 1/8 inch male universal stereo speaker + microphone combo and an 1/8 inch male to split 1/8 inch stereo speaker male and 1/8 inch microphone male. Both cords have a molding on the end that connects to the headset that helps lock it into place - it will not come loose easily. The 1/8" inch connector for whatever device you are using does fit securely into most 1/4 inch screw on adapters if you need to plug this into an audio interface, mixer, musical instrument, etc. -Build quality: I am a professional user wearing this headset 8+ hours a day for game development, gaming, meetings, etc... this headset is solid. The cushions haven't worn out, the cords are long enough to reach a device far behind or under your desk with extra slack, and the plastic materials have shown no sign of wear and tear yet. What you should know when shopping for a quality gaming headset: Most "gamer headsets" in this price range are inferior and mark-up the price with "revolutionary 3D" or "virtual surround" buzzwords which are, unfortunately, bad products. A quality headset is stereo, transparent, and doesn't attempt to alter the audio at all - you want to hear the game the way that it was mixed. Transparent meaning there is no hyped up EQ or driver built into the headset such as "bass booster" or some non-sense like that. Hyped headphones are the bane of audio engineers around the world - it's a way to charge a premium with a cheap gimic as a result of some awful partnership or marketing exploitation and always sound terrible. "3D sound." You've heard this one too - it's been around since the 90's and isn't some new thing. Most games use some form of object based panning where sounds are attached to objects in the game world, such as footsteps attached to characters feet, and an algorithm effects the panning in such a way that helps you perceive the location of that sound. Some games take it a step further with spatial audio features that, when enabled, utilize binaural rendering to trick your brain into perceiving the location of sounds more accurately. Binaural rendering relies on a stereo headset to work properly - no real exceptions to that. Virtual surround completely breaks binaural rendering - you have to disable virtual surround for a binaural headphone mix to work - so don't buy those BS 7.1. headsets they are not good and will screw up your perception of sounds. Examples of binaural renderers include Dolby Headphone (AAA games like Overwatch, Call of Duty), Oculus Audio (VR games for Rift/Quest), Auro Headphone (mixed bag of VR and games), Google Resonance (Fortnite and VR), etc. This headset is very transparent and works great with and without binaural renderers. Hope this was a helpful review. ... show more
