Description

An engine's thermostat regulates the temperature of the engine by controlling coolant flow, its job is to block the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up. Symptoms of a bad or failing thermostat: high temperature reading and engine overheating; low temperature reading and underheated engine; temperature changing erratically; coolant leaks around thermostat housing or under vehicle. NOTE: If the thermostat has a jiggle pin, check valve, or other feature to assist in bleeding air from the system in a vertical installation, the jiggle pin should be located at the north or 12 o'clock location.     • Not OEM but works
Hi folks, if you are getting this thermostat for your 8th gen Honda Civic, I would highly recommend you go with the OEM thermostat from Honda because the temp rating stamped on the Honda part I took out is 82 degrees Celsius vs 78 from this part on Amazon. I think this means the engine will be running colder with this one than with the OEM thermostat with a higher temp rating. The normal operating temp for the R18 engine is 190F. I get around 174-176F on a local drive, which is lower than what’s optimal for the engine. Not sure how this will affect my fuel economy, but I expect slight negative impact on fuel consumption. I’ll continue to monitor over time and report update. Nonetheless, this part is a perfect fit. ... show more

We recently did an engine swap on my mom's beloved 1998 Honda Odyssey. After 240,000 miles it finally gave up with a cracked head. For a couple hundred dollars we got a compatible engine from the junkyard and did some major maintenance to it before installing it in the car. I have 2001 Honda CR-V. Noticed the temp gauge was acting up. Got this and installed in 20 mins start to finish. See photos to compare the new with the old thermostat!! You can see how the old one is rotted out and new one is direct match replacement.

Purchased Feb 9th installed that weekend - It’s May 3rd and the car has been driven less then 500 miles and the car is showing all signs of a faulty thermostat. Don’t waste your money!!! Just go into the part store and buy a name brand one. Car did fine up until a few days ago. I’m sure the head gaskets are blown now and this crappy thermostat has ended up costing us more money. Seems like the thermostat is not opening properly- the bottom radiator hose is cold and car is over heating very bad. Will be trying to test this thermostat today to see if it’s opening when it gets to temp. ... show more
