The cotter pins are for the bottom extension legs to hold them in place. The problem is that if you use the cotter pins you can not store the legs in the upright position. Use regular bolts & nuts instead Also, depending on the weight of what's being lifted and not using the appropriate extension arm position the backend will lift off the floor and become a danger to objects & persons.

Hoist came with very little hydraulic fluid. After filling the ram and bleeding off and the hoist would still not lift. Sent for replacement and crossing fingers this one works. Lots of assembly and disassembly to get it returned.

One of the wheels barely spins, no washers to use to attach the casters. Instructions consist of a a poor diagram. Trying to get bolts in for the wheels was a pain in the ass with my large hands. At the end of the day it lifted the engine but had to spin the whole contraption due to the wheel getting stuck and not being able to push it where I needed it. There were loose nuts and bolts in the box as well.
