  • Convenient and very useful tool with myriad uses
I already had a hand-held 'endoscope/bore scope' with its own screen, but it's not used that much because it's large enough that it has to be stored in a box, then located, pulled out and assembled before use. Which is unfortunate because I'm constantly in need of a way to look down the bore of a weapon I'm cleaning, to inspect the interior cavity of a guitar, to closely inspect the soldering on electronics, to look under or behind workbenches for dropped items, and in one recent instance, to check for possible mold behind bookshelves against a basement wall when I discovered that the downspout on an external wall had been leaking water down the foundation. No mold, thankfully, but I was able to show my wife that all was ok without spending the afternoon unloading hundreds of books from several shelves, moving the shelves, inspecting, then loading them all back in place. At about $10, that alone is worth what this unit costs. This scope is hanging on a hook on my workbench's pegboard wall, and like everyone else on the planet I always have my cell phone with me, so now using a scope is as simple as pulling it off the wall, plugging it into the phone and firing up the app. The external diameter of the scope is 7.9mm, so I can't run it down the barrel of a Ruger 10/22, and a .32 ACP might be a tight fit, but anything in .380 ACP, 9mm or larger won't be an issue. The 16ft cable is a bit of overkill for most use cases I might have, but I can see where that length might come in handy at times. Fortunately, the cable is semi-rigid so when it's rolled up it's not going to be a problem to control. The same can be said for the scope being watertight. I haven't tested that, but if the opportunity ever presents itself, it will be very useful. The uses for a small, flexible scope in 1080p quality with mounted LEDs are myriad. And the included accessories only serve to broaden the utility of the tool. As you can see from left to right in the attached photo: - The cable itself has a Type-C USB connector - The second one is a Micro USB adapter - Third is an iPhone Lightning adapter - A side-view mirror (to look around corners) - A hook (to grab stuff) - A magnet (also to grab metal stuff) - Not shown but extremely useful... the light's brightness is adjustable. That was one drawback on my other scope, the lights were so bright that it made inspecting reflective surfaces difficult to see if there was any glare. I haven't had that problem with this scope. There are a couple of extra clip-on holders. I believe these are for tools you might be able to adapt and use. And of course, a manual. The only negative I have about this scope is that it is not an 'articulating' camera... one where the camera at the end can be pointed in different directions from the other end of the cable. In certain situations, that function would be extremely helpful. However, at the price point of this scope that is probably a bridge too far. There are scopes with that function on the market, but their cost is somewhere between $40 and 240. The semi-rigidity of the cable does allow you some flexibility to manipulate the cable around corners to some degree, so all is not lost. For about $10, this scope is a winner. ... show more

  • Great adjustable LEDs, 16 feet of flex, and a magnet that means business: A very handy tool.
I picked up this endoscope for basic home repairs, tech inspections, and automotive use (I have a Fiat 500, so things are very compact), and overall it's been a dependable gadget, and way more useful than I expected at the price point. The included app is pretty straightforward, though it seems a bit *too* basic in some respects. It has the basic options for capturing stills and video, zoom is quantized at 1x, 2x, 3x, and 4x, and aside from rotating the image 90 degrees, there's not much else advanced you can do within the app: no filters, image tuning, annotation tools, measurement tools, etc. It did also take a couple of times plugging in the device and unplugging it before the app recognized that it was connected, but since then it's been stable and responsive. The image quality is respectable in decent lighting and tight quarters. The built in LED is bright enough to illuminate most dark spaces (under car seats, vents, crawlspaces, behind the dryer), but just be aware: in close proximity to some surfaces, the light can cause some glare in the camera lens, so be sure you adjust the brightness down using the manual dial in these scenarios. The attachments were way more impressive than I expected upon first seeing them, especially the magnet retrieval tool. I tested it on an X-Acton knife blade and handle, and it managed to lift it vertically about four feet, by the blade, from the floor before the swinging got the better of it and it finally fell. It will come in handy for all those dropped screws, nuts, and bolts that always seem to fall just out of reach when working on the car. The hook attachment is also way stronger than it looks like it would be. The overall design and build of this product is pretty high-quality, for sure. The one attachment that does take some finessing is the mirror attachment: getting the angle just right is a little tricky and takes some back and forth, as it's easy for it to shift slightly out of alignment and with a narrow field of view, that can be frustrating in tight spots. The cable length is rather generous at 16.5 feet (5.03 meters), and is made of a semi-rigid wire that makes it great for getting deep into pipes or walls, but that same length can work against you when fully extended, as it's a bit tricky to maneuver precisely at that distance. Overall, this endoscope is great value, and a solid 4/5 stars, with the only complaints being either expected, or relatively minor to deal with, and hopefully updates to the app will add some more advanced features in the future, which would bring the rating up to close to five for sure! If you're a DIYer, technician, or just curious about what is causing the foul and mysterious odor under the seat of your car, this is a solid tool to add to your arsenal, or it would also make a great gift for dad or a new homeowner. That magnet has already saved me two or three headaches. ... show more
