Description

Klein Tools ET16 Borescope features a 9 mm camera surrounded by 6 LEDs attached to a 10-Foot (3 m) armored gooseneck cable. The digital camera has a USB Type-C (and micro-USB) connection for most Android (OTG 4.0 or higher) smartphones and devices. The camera and video output is displayed on the Android device using the free Klein Tools ET16 Borescope App, available for download on Google Play store. The ET16 does not require batteries; it is powered by device connection. A homeowner must have! You can figure out a lot of problems when you can get in close to see them and holy moly does this thing help. It would probably be best on a tablet, for easier viewing, but on a phone you can still easily figure out what's going on. The USB connector is as solid as your port so make sure your phone hasn't taken too many tumbles. I have used Klien tools for years, so never thought twice about purchasing this camera, especially for the price AND that it was Android compatible. We were using it to inspect a faulty install on a plumbing drain where we believed the former contractor did not install a trap under a shower. I was a little concerned after opening the package and seeing that it notes that it is "not to be used for underwater inspections"; even though it says it is waterproof. After a little research, we decided that the camera itself is waterproof, but not the device where it attaches to your phone. Pros / Cons: The probe is strong, making it fairly simple to push along; However this makes it difficult to push around the 90 fitting in the drain line. It would hang on the pipe edge where it meets the fitting. The outer coating seems rugged, but it did fray some when entering the pipe. The picture quality was decent, but a focus feature would be nice. It is a little hard to see when the camera is up close to something... kinda makes the pic blur. The LED light is a Great feature and even better that you can control the brightness, However it does cause a back flash of light to the camera when up against a shiny surface. This could also possibly be controlled by a focus feature. The app was easy to install and has decent features, fairly simple to operate. The video feature has a limit on video length and is a little slow to close the video before letting you start the next video. I'm running the latest Android software, so the app itself probably needs to be updated for the newer software. It even comes with a great carry case making it easy to transport with your hands full and easy to store. I DO recommend this product!! Make sure it is capable of doing what you want, but all in all it seems to be a great device for the price. I can't wait to use it while fishing our next wire down a wall. ... show more

I’ve tried 5 different borescopes ranging in price up to $90. The Klein ET20 with the WI-FI connection and 6 foot armored goose is the way to go. I use it with an iPhone. The construction of the ET20 camera is solid compared to others. Its price is a little higher, but worth it from a practical use perspective. The borescopes are designed to be used in confined areas, such as inside of walls with the viewing area 3 to 24 inches away from the lens, max. Don’t think you are going to get good picture quality beyond this range. Also, other cameras may have longer lengths, but their cords are flimsy and no good beyond 5-6 feet if that. If you think otherwise, buy both, test for yourself, and return the one you dislike. I hope this info is useful. ... show more

Borescope worked for three days incredibly intermittently. Now it flashes and loses connection. Plug it into a co workers iPhone and the USB lights stay on. Issue is definitely software related. I teach and train newbies in hvac. They ask me what kind of tools to get and I will NOT be recommending klein anymore! Living off of a legacy but no longer making good tools. If you can't make something good affordable, then don't make it and put your name on it! ... show more

This is a well made borescope. The flexible armor cable is high quality. You need the klein app to integrate with the tool and that is the problem. The camera works fine and takes good pictures. Videos- something is happening as the phone tells me it's processing but they don't appear in the video library portion of the app. Further investigation shows that there are files from the borescope (.mp4 files) on the phone but they can't be played . Probably a formatting issue. I tried multiple players with no success. So bottom line is tool seems to work fine and is well constructed. Klein did a poor job of developing a support app that is necessary to make it work. ... show more

Paid $99, or about 1/2 of what I paid for the previous bore scope I've had for about 10 years made by Ridgid that recently died. I have used the Klein Tools ET20 on automotive work and it's been very useful. The photo is the top bolt on an F150 starter that's completely hidden by the transmission housing/exhaust/front axle and the camera made this about a 10 minute job. Otherwise you're trying to find the bolt with a socket on an extension at a tough angle just by feel. A real time and trouble saver. Totally worth the cost if it lasts half as long as the last one. ... show more
