Description

Klein Tools ET16 Borescope features a 8 mm camera surrounded by 6 LEDs attached to a 10-Foot (3 m) armored gooseneck cable. The digital camera has a USB Type-C connection for most Android (OTG 4.0 or higher) smartphones and devices. The camera and video output is displayed on the Android device using the free Klein Tools ET16 Borescope App, available for download on Google Play store. The ET16 does not require batteries; it is powered by device connection. A homeowner must have! You can figure out a lot of problems when you can get in close to see them and holy moly does this thing help. It would probably be best on a tablet, for easier viewing, but on a phone you can still easily figure out what's going on. The USB connector is as solid as your port so make sure your phone hasn't taken too many tumbles. So for the most part it works well for what you get my issue is more with the app that you have to download... On multiple occasions I've had to uninstall and reinstall the app in order to use the function of taking pictures or videos...the tool its self is very nice and built well

An extension cord would be a good idea but this is very obvious from the pictures of the tool, otherwise it's awesome and exceeded my expectations of clarity and usefulness of the LEDs. Fantastic capabilities for the price, seems durable and long lasting except for the wire that connects to a phone, it's obvious that is where mine will fail first but I can simply keep this in mind for a tool I don't use often. Pro tip: rotate while bending it slightly to check the orientation before inserting it into a hole. ... show more

    • Avoid! Disappointed in Klein Tools

Borescope worked for three days incredibly intermittently. Now it flashes and loses connection. Plug it into a co workers iPhone and the USB lights stay on. Issue is definitely software related. I teach and train newbies in hvac. They ask me what kind of tools to get and I will NOT be recommending klein anymore! Living off of a legacy but no longer making good tools. If you can't make something good affordable, then don't make it and put your name on it! ... show more

After only a week the micro usb port stopped working so i can only use type c now. Not the biggest deal but my tablet is micro usb and nicer to have a bigger image somerimes. Camera quality is decent, nothing spectacular but not to grainy. Its very hard to keep 1 hand on the camera and 1 hand on the cord so it doesnt rip out of ur phone/device. Sometimes when moving the camera around it will wiggle the usb connector and make the app restart which can be very annoying especially when you had the perfect angle you needed. I bought this ET16 model ($39) over the more expensive wireless ET20 ($89) because i only use it briefly but after realizing how hard it is to try n keep the camera cord still so that its not ripping out of your device and restarting the app, i will be upgrasing to the wireless ET20 model just so i dont have to deal with the corded headache. ... show more

Works amazing for the money you pay considering other brands are hundreds of dollars. Saves tons of time in diagnosis. Only problem is the light isnt THAT bright. Hard to see whether or not there is crosshatching in cylinders thru the spark plug hole etc.

This is my second Android based borescope and it seems to be very good quality. Works great and is obviously very heavy duty. Should provide years of service. App from Klein Tools was easy to download and is also very easy to use. Some have mentioned that the phone cable could be longer and I agree but easily solved with a cheap extension cable or just getting used to using it with what is provided.
