  • Works as advertised
Color: Orange
If you’re the type of person, like me, who fixes everything & anything themselves - this eventually is going to be a must have. I bought this to track down a hidden minuscule oil seepage on my BMW. I was able to track it down to a bolt that holds the timing chain tensioner to the block. This bolt (pic #2) is impossible to see with the engine in the car & everything assembled. I was able to see it with this tool. It’s pic #2, it’s wet below the bolt. There is just a crush washer between that bolt & the block & the bolt somehow loosened itself. I just had to tighten the bolt. Easy fix & it was almost impossible to see without this tool. The next day I found a small wet spot under my kitchen sink. It seemed to be coming off the garbage disposal. However, garbage disposal is only about 7 years old & looks externally brand new. It’s the type of leak that may loose a drop every 30 seconds. I was pretty much able to confirm it was the garbage disposal leaking. However, maybe one of the bolts that hold the garbage disposal together came loose & just needed to be tightened?… Maybe it was coming from a connection I couldn’t see? I wanted to 100% see exactly how water was getting out of the unit to make sure replacing it was the only option before doing so. I then remembered I had this tool. I was able to take off the plate were the cord comes out of garbage disposal & see inside. You can see from pic #1 is obviously rusted/corroded inside & it needs to be replaced. The screen is showing the rust inside the garbage disposal unit where the cord comes out - obviously no water is supposed to be there & if there is rust it’s garbage. The resolution on this seems maybe 720p. It’s not iPhone quality - but it’s not bad. There is a LED light on the end of the probe that works well with a few diff brightness settings you control from the head unit. That light is essential as you are snaking this into dark places most of the time. For $30 this is a great tool for a DIY type person. There are a few zoom in / zoom out settings, switch to black & white, & flip the image 180°. That’s about it - it’s nice because that’s really all you need & I had when stuff like this has stupid complicated features that are useless. I’m going to say this is WAY better than any unit you buy for a few less dollars that works with you’re phone & an app. I’m going to guess the pic resolution may be better in those type units - because it’s using the screen on your $1000 phone. However, I will tell you exactly why this unit is better - because in a few years that phone app won’t be supported or even around any more, making the tool useless. That’s how it tends to go. I’ve been through this before with other tools & smart home hardware that is app driven. Whatever it is - in a few years it will be gone or different & that makes whatever hardware you have useless. For the occasional DIY user, you may only use it a few times before this happens. This tool has internal battery that charges with a supplied USB type cord. Worse case scenario I’m thinking in 10 years the battery fails but the tool wluld still be usable while plugged in to a power source / charging brick. For how often I’ll use this tool, I really only want to have to buy 1 in a lifetime. The charging cord it comes with is actually long enough to be useful - usually this stuff comes with a 3” cord that is too short to practically use so you end up using your own USB cord to charge it. It came almost fully charge & has a battery indicator. Also comes with a pretty weak magnet, a mirror, & a hook that fasten to the camera end you can use in various scenarios. Then hook & magnet are pretty light duty, you are using them on anything heavy, but they seem to fasten reliably so they won’t fall off. The 1 shortcoming of this is the cord that you snake the camera on is very stiff. I guess this can help if it’s going way down a drain or something, but it’s so stiff it makes it a little awkward to use. Not as stiff as a wire hanger, but almost. The cord is long, so if your only using it a short distance to see something that is just blocked, you need to keep most of the cord wrapped up, the extra cord won’t just fall out of the way like an iPhone cord - it will be in the way. It comes with 2 velcro strips to hold the cord wrapped up, which is really nice. Only critique with this is I wish it came with a cloth pouch type case or better yet a plastic blow molded case. All you have to store it in is the cardboard box it comes in. Not a big deal for $30 - so I’m still giving it 5 stars. ... show more

  • So far, so good!
Color: Orange
I have another borescope/endoscope that I have been using off and on for a year. That one is rather basic & only has a 2MP camera. This one is supposedly 1080p, which would be a pretty good step up. I used this after I received it yesterday to look at the inlets of the turbos on my 2018 Infiniti Q50 Luxe AWD VR30 twin turbo having car. The picture quality was clear, and looked nice. I even used it to look at the text on the screen of my Macbook & the text was clear & crisp too. The included mirror, hook & magnetic tip are look pretty good. The mirror isn't super secure and moves around in it's holder a little bit but looks pretty good and is pretty clear too. The flipping of the video 180 degrees looks good, and works well. Except the text is then flipped backwards as well, so be mindful of that. What I'll be doing is marking (with a paint pen) a line on the top of the camera's housing to show what is up so that I can tell what position to put the camera in. All is well so far with the borescope, I am really liking it. ... show more

  • Great quality for the price point
Color: Orange
This borescope works great for odds and ends homeowner projects. It can be put inside walls, HVAC ducts, and rafters. I've used mine for car maintenance. It's really great for finding bolts that you've dropped down into an engine bay. I recently used mine to watch the tube that I had stuck in the fill plug hole of a transmission while I stood next to the car and pumped oil down the tube into the transmission. It let me check if the tube had fallen out of the transmission or if it was full without having to be under the car watching it. It's a really handy tool that I keep finding uses for. Each time, I think "this process would've taken a lot longer without this thing". The only downside is image quality. At this price point you're not going to get crystal clear clarity, but it can be a bit fuzzy when viewing something from a distance. If you can get the camera right up against something, it'll work great. But if you just stick the camera into a wall or pipe and can't get it perfectly facing what you're looking at you're going to get a slightly fuzzy view. Unless you're looking to spend much more, I think this is the best product you're going to get. Unless you're doing hardcore engine building or professional contracting, I'd start with this borescope and see if you're needing a higher-quality one later. ... show more

  • A super useful tool to have around
Color: Orange
This little device has been very handy to have around, and it’s weathered a fair amount of abuse. How many times have you wanted a clear view of something, maybe a set of car keys dropped behind furniture, but you couldn’t figure out how to get a good look, even with a powerful flashlight? This thing has already come in handy many times. I bought it to run wires from my upstairs office to the downstairs router, and it really helped me steer clear of electrical wires and locate my cable at the other end. I also used it locate and remove an obstruction from my bathtub drain. And I’ve used it a few times just to get a better view of something without having to turn the surrounding area upside down to get access. It’s like having a flashlight the goes wherever you want, plus a camera to show you what the flashlight is pointing at. It’s very simple to use, and it doesn’t even need batteries, though you will need to charge it from time to time. The image quality isn’t amazing, but it’s more than enough for its intended uses. Considering how inexpensive it was it’s a fantastic value, and real Amazon find. ... show more
