  • Great Induction Stovetop
This was an excellent replacement for my worn out electric stovetop. I had not used induction before and did a lot of research prior to purchasing. I prefer gas stovetops over electric any day of the week because you have more control over the heat. An induction is a much better way to go if you can't have gas. The control is precise and almost instant. The great thing about this type of cook top is that it heats your pans (cooking medium) through an electromagnetic energy that interacts directly with your pans. No heating elements and heat on the stovetop. The controls are easy to use and I found them to be intuitive. This is a very good intermediate stove when compared to other induction cook tops and probably the best manufacturer at this time for this level of cook top. The price range is perfect for those who don't want to spend a few thousand on an induction. During my research i found that there are induction units that will just blow your socks off and are just as every bit as functional as gas and then there were units that were just at the "yugo" range and barely worth the time to consider. Empava found an unaddressed market and have made a great intermediate induction stove top. This one has bridge controls, and boost options which make it nice when using a large griddle or wanting to boil water in less than 5 minutes. If your looking into a new electric stove top I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone. Great unit, great price, great functioning for it's class. ... show more

  • An overall solid unit with a few minor drawbacks
We have had this cooktop for 2.5 years now, so I think it is time to check in with a review after a lot of actual use. The Pros: 1) Easy to install. The slim design allowed us to keep the drawers below the cooktop. 2) POWERFUL. Boils water 3x faster than our old conventional electric cooktop 3) Reliable. It has only been 2.5 years, but we have had no trouble with it 4) Durable. I was concerned about the glass breaking, but it has held up well. We use a lot of cast iron pans on it with no issues. 5) Easy to clean. Oh yes. SO easy to clean. The Cons: 1) Cryptic controls. The buttons are just icons, so it takes time to learn and remember what they do. We rent out our house during the summer and I need to leave detailed instructions for the guests. Without instructions, most people will not even be able to turn it on. A stove should not be this complicated to operate. 2) Multiple presses required to do anything. Turning on a single burner to "HI" requires 3 button presses. Changing a burner from "HI" to "LOW" takes 10 presses. This is too complicated and when trying to work quickly it really slows down the workflow compared to a conventional knob. 3) No easy way to turn a single burner off. The only way is to select it and press (-) repeatedly until the power is at zero. If the burner was on Max, this is 11 button presses to turn it off. Just plain dumb. 4) Poorly developed heat settings. Each burner can be set from "1" to "10" for heat. But 5 and up will burn olive oil, so settings 5 and up are really just different speeds of boiling water. That leaves only 1-4 for the fine cooking work and there are many times where 3 it too low and 4 is too high. Eggs, for example, could benefit from a better spacing of the heat settings. Anyone serous about cooking will find this to be a big drawback. ... show more

  • Do not buy from this manufacturer/false claims as to performance.
I bought this unit and despite the description all of the inductive elements were about 4 inches in diameter. you could see the small heating circle on my pan and it was identical in all the spots no matter the size of the "painted circle". The surface must be kept extremely clean or the little heat that the surface is subjected to is enough to get food or other contaminants to "burn" to the surface of the unit. ... show more

  • Terrible customer service
One month out of warranty, and my cooktop went crazy. Cannot seem to contact by phone through email. I was told that I have a bad board and main board. trying to figure out how to order these parts, but the responses are very vague.

  • Noisy induction compared to more expensive models.
Really wanted to like this for the low price compared name brands, but the induction noise was annoyingly loud except with cast iron pans, and the high power center eye did not heat evenly with large pans. Easy to install, controls were ok. Ended up paying 3x more for a name brand which is quieter and more even with heating. Might have kept for a guest kitchen or rental. ... show more

  • This is the induction cooktop I've been waiting for!!!!!
I began researching induction cooktops a number of years ago & became sold on the technology. (theinductionsite.com has a lot of good information) I came across some used Cooktek commercial units cheap on craigslist & bought them to see if I really liked cooking on them. All I can say is WOW, I will never cook on anything else, including the Viking 48" range I got rid of! (ever cleaned a Viking stove???) Induction is SO easy to clean, stuff doesn't burn on them like a regular glass top. Soooo, I began searching for a 36 inch cooktop at a GOOD price & with the right burner configuration for how I cook. I had already been looking at the Empava 36" unit when Amazon suggested the Empava IDCF9. Oh my gosh, the perfect configuration!! If you look at my pics you will see that I am able to use everything from my smallest skillet & sauce pan, to my largest skillet, to my two 22 quart Tramontina stock pots (or 16 quart or 12 quart), to my two Fagor 10 quart pressure canners, to my 16 inch flat bottom cast iron wok from The Wok Shop, and lest I forget, my two Lodge 16 3/4 x 9 1/2 cast iron reversible griddle/grills on the 2 bridge burners! The absolute ONLY possible negative I can think of is that sometimes the controls are a tiny bit touchy & I have to press it more than once, but I've always been able to get to the setting I wanted. That is not a deal breaker for me, with all the good this cooktop has to offer. I am completely happy & satisfied with it, and I hope Empava continues to make this burner configuration (IDCF9) FOREVER, in case I ever need another one! And by the way, to the person who left a 2 star review because YOU didn't do your research, that's really not fair to the cooktop OR the company! I say THANK YOU EMPAVA!!! ... show more
