Amazing amazing product. It's a little pricey but it is worth every penny. I use it cool my bedroom at night so I dont have to lower the AC on the whole house . I can't speak for using it in a living room, but for my bedroom it does a great job at lower the temps. If you like a very cold room, I suggest lowering it to the lowest temp at 62 degrees. It's very easy to set it up on a window with the included attachment. And easy to take down every day if you leave for work. I hardly ever have to empty it of water as it seems to empty most of it on its own. I've been using it for about 10 months now, and its stood the test of time so far. It's not loud at all. It has a small sound when the compressor kicks on, but nothing bad at all. I would suggest buying extra window sealent foam, as it'll help create an air tight seal on your window attachment, and will help remove any gaps. And the whole thing is portable! I would not suggest going below 14000 btu if you want a cold room. I definitely recommend this. ... show more

Yikes! It's great. The specification says it will cool down a 300 sqft room but I can attest that it will quickly cool a much larger room - probably up to 600 sqft. It's not super quiet, but it's much quieter the Delonghi 14k BTU unit I purchased and gave away to a good cause. You can sleep with the sound while the compressor is running, but not really listen to a radio at night over the sound. I typically use it during the evening before bed to cool down the apartment (maybe from 8pm to 10pm) - otherwise it stays above 75 degF until 4AM with only a fan running. Everything is included, even weatherstripping for sealing around the window fit hot air exhaust panel. Well designed and thought out from a user's point of view. I've been using it for only a couple of months but it seems a well built unit and has been reliable. I purchased a protection plan, but really you don't need it because the manufacturer warranty is like 3-years already. ... show more

This seems to work well and cools my 900 sq ft house with two bedroom doors and the bathroom door closed. Ergo, living, dining, kitchen area and one bedroom are being cooled. When it is actively cooling it is quite loud, too loud for me if it was in a bedroom. When it is maintaining temperature, the noise level is quite low and very acceptable. DO NOT BUY!!! THIS PRODUCT HAS A DANGEROUS DEFECT! I cannot stress this enough. The Emerson Quiet Kool portable AC unit stopped working after one year of normal use and created a dangerous health hazard for me and my family. Then, to top it all off, the company provided zero support. It was easily my WORST retail experience. BACKGROUND For the first year, the unit worked well. I followed all the safety and proper storage instructions, and it cooled the room it was meant for and I had zero complaints. Then, after 13 months, exactly one month past the warranty (planned obsolescence???), the unit suddenly stopped blowing cold air. I attempted to fix it a couple times by turning it off for a few hours to let it rest, but every time when I turned it back on, it would blow cold air as it should for a few minutes (15 at most), then the compressor would click off and the unit would blow outside temperature air. The next thing I tried was to turn it off to let it rest for several days, which was painful in DC in July, averaging 90 degrees outside, but nothing changed. Next, I took the outer shell of the unit off to inspect it and what I found was SHOCKING!!! PROBLEM The photos attached are of the build-up that I found covering every surface inside the unit, but mostly on the grills. The dusty build-up was THICK and BLACK, like soot. As you can see, something went very wrong with this machine. Whatever it was, it created a danger as this fine particulate, black, sooty, dusty substance, when inhaled into our lungs was certainly hazardous to our health. My best guess is that a defective wire or electrical component either smoldered or worse maybe briefly caught fire for some unknown reason, producing smoke and all this thick, black soot build-up. CUSTOMER SERVICE I contacted the company and after multiple email exchanges they said that because the warranty had expired ONE MONTH prior they would do NOTHING for me. They would not give me a refund, a partial refund, or send out a service technician. They would not even recommend a service technician to look at it. I would have to have the unit serviced at my own expense... Literally NOTHING, not a single, solitary thing!!! Shockingly horrible customer service. Do not waste your money on this defective, dangerous product, I implore you. ... show more
