Amazing amazing product. It's a little pricey but it is worth every penny. I use it cool my bedroom at night so I dont have to lower the AC on the whole house . I can't speak for using it in a living room, but for my bedroom it does a great job at lower the temps. If you like a very cold room, I suggest lowering it to the lowest temp at 62 degrees. It's very easy to set it up on a window with the included attachment. And easy to take down every day if you leave for work. I hardly ever have to empty it of water as it seems to empty most of it on its own. I've been using it for about 10 months now, and its stood the test of time so far. It's not loud at all. It has a small sound when the compressor kicks on, but nothing bad at all. I would suggest buying extra window sealent foam, as it'll help create an air tight seal on your window attachment, and will help remove any gaps. And the whole thing is portable! I would not suggest going below 14000 btu if you want a cold room. I definitely recommend this. ... show more

DO NOT BUY!!! THIS PRODUCT HAS A DANGEROUS DEFECT! I cannot stress this enough. The Emerson Quiet Kool portable AC unit stopped working after one year of normal use and created a dangerous health hazard for me and my family. Then, to top it all off, the company provided zero support. It was easily my WORST retail experience. BACKGROUND For the first year, the unit worked well. I followed all the safety and proper storage instructions, and it cooled the room it was meant for and I had zero complaints. Then, after 13 months, exactly one month past the warranty (planned obsolescence???), the unit suddenly stopped blowing cold air. I attempted to fix it a couple times by turning it off for a few hours to let it rest, but every time when I turned it back on, it would blow cold air as it should for a few minutes (15 at most), then the compressor would click off and the unit would blow outside temperature air. The next thing I tried was to turn it off to let it rest for several days, which was painful in DC in July, averaging 90 degrees outside, but nothing changed. Next, I took the outer shell of the unit off to inspect it and what I found was SHOCKING!!! PROBLEM The photos attached are of the build-up that I found covering every surface inside the unit, but mostly on the grills. The dusty build-up was THICK and BLACK, like soot. As you can see, something went very wrong with this machine. Whatever it was, it created a danger as this fine particulate, black, sooty, dusty substance, when inhaled into our lungs was certainly hazardous to our health. My best guess is that a defective wire or electrical component either smoldered or worse maybe briefly caught fire for some unknown reason, producing smoke and all this thick, black soot build-up. CUSTOMER SERVICE I contacted the company and after multiple email exchanges they said that because the warranty had expired ONE MONTH prior they would do NOTHING for me. They would not give me a refund, a partial refund, or send out a service technician. They would not even recommend a service technician to look at it. I would have to have the unit serviced at my own expense... Literally NOTHING, not a single, solitary thing!!! Shockingly horrible customer service. Do not waste your money on this defective, dangerous product, I implore you. ... show more

Do yourself a favor, stop obsessively researching a portable AC unit, trust me over 18 solid hours of research that I put in, and by this unit! I had to weigh in a lot of factors when researching this. I'm in the end I decided that the most important to me is going to be sound and then cooling capacity. We hit an absolute home run with this unit and I'm so thrilled. I'm just mad that I ended up wasting so much time researching them because this is one of the very first units that I looked at. I washed every available YouTube video from The Last 5 Years oh, that was you portable AC units. I read every single review on Amazon of every single unit available. I literally spent about 18 straight hours over a three-day period, researching this because I didn't want to screw this purchase up. That it turns out if I had just trusted my gut and gone with one of the very first units I looked at, that I would have saved myself a lot of time. Because this unit is fantastic! For a portable AC unit which means you have a compressor in your house, I believe this unit is almost as quiet as you will get. I have a thick rug so Mobility isn't really a concern, but when I have had to roll it, it does move well. The remote is easy to use and the control features of the unit are easy to figure out. The only issue, just like everybody has with these units, is hooking it up to vent out the window. I had a friend of mine who is a handyman make me an insert for my casement window. I Don't have regular windows, we have the twist out crank out casement windows. So we had to literally take one of our screens out and just give it to him. He had a piece of plexiglass cut, made a little frame for it that matched the molding for the screen, I've been cut out part of the plexiglass and replaced it with the insert piece for the window. So all I had to do was just pop this thing in where the screen went and I was ready to go! The self-evaporation feature Works fantastic and although I could have gotten a dual evaporation unit and gotten more efficient Cooling, I don't believe it's necessary because there's enough juice in this thing to cool down my entire upstairs which is Massive! I have a big open floor plan kitchen living room bathroom and dining room, and the living room has 20 foot ceilings! And this unit cools it all very effectively. ... show more

This seems to work well and cools my 900 sq ft house with two bedroom doors and the bathroom door closed. Ergo, living, dining, kitchen area and one bedroom are being cooled. When it is actively cooling it is quite loud, too loud for me if it was in a bedroom. When it is maintaining temperature, the noise level is quite low and very acceptable.
