  • Tough kid, tougher bed
We have an very active, 130 lbs., pre-teen child with Autism who likes to jump into his bed (a lot). Zach has been the end of 3 highly rated metal frame beds in the last six month. Two we purchased on Amazon and were advertised as being strong in that they can handle a lot of weight. They are all now in the metal dumpster at our local recycling center. Most of those beds, it seems are designed for vertical weight and rather sedentary vertical weight at that. Zach's jumping into bed on his heavy foam (springs failed too) mattress puts lateral force that twists and bends the metal frames. Once they are bent, its only a matter of time to failures since the bent metal results in lost rigidity and eventfully falling apart. Of the last two attempts, one bed lasted only one week the other lasted 3 weeks. We joked Zach Bed Room = Bed Frame Doom. Before we decided to go the mattress on the floor solution... we decided to take a long short on this wooden bed. My wife had her doubts, especially since it did not have a middle support feet and was a bit pricey. We also had had prior wood frame childhood beds for our other children that although were ok, they were not up to Zach level of tough. Result is we could not be happier with this bed. This is no ordinary wood bed. Honestly, it is (almost) over engineered for it strength. The wood is of high quality and the slats are very strong and plentiful. We suspect the accountants that try and cost reduce everything and sacrifice quality probably did not make the product planning meeting when this bed was conceived. They have built a very good bed from very good materials and they are charging a very, very fair price for it. Cost is over discussed and good value is under appreciated. This product is of the highest value for our family and we cannot endorse it enough for others with similar special needs challenges. ... show more

  • Love this bed!
Size: Queen Color: Grey Barn Wood
I am in my 50s with a very bad back. My husband recently passed, so I am working on creating my house so that I can do things by myself without too much trouble. I read the reviews on this bed and watched it for a long time - when I was finally ready to buy it, I was lucky enough to get it on a Lightning Deal. My old bed was a name brand, was twice the price of this one, and was made out of inferior materials that didn't last long. It took me four hours and a lot of back pain to get the old bed taken apart. I had been hoping to sell it, but it was too broken up and didn't come apart easily, though when I finally lost patience and used a framing hammer on it, it was just fine. It took me 10 whole minutes to put the new bed together! It is sturdy, and I will be able to move it by myself without it breaking when I move into a different house. Some of the reviews noted that if you move the bed, it will come apart, but I have not had that issue. As well, several reviewers noted that the finish gives off a heavy smell that takes time to off-gas. I definitely noticed a smell, so I left the box open in my living room for a couple of days before I put it together, and that seems to have helped. I bought the grey, and it is really pretty! The only criticism I have is that it would be nice if they included felt to stick to the bottom of the feet for those with wood floors. Other than that, I have to say that this is probably some of the best money I've ever spent - the bed holds my memory foam mattress perfectly, and I am now sleeping more comfortably than I have in a very long time. I did put six new (folded up) medium sized moving boxes over the slats before I put my mattress on, so there is a double thickness of cardboard between the slats and the mattress, which I prefer just to keep my mattress in good shape. It would be really nice if it were possible to choose between the height of this bed and something 6 inches taller. I really like a taller bed, but because this bed is so great otherwise, I'm happy to give it five stars. ... show more

  • A solid, nice looking bed!
Size: Twin XL Color: Walnut
Bought this bed to replace an old, metal frame twin bed that was too short for me to comfortably sleep on. You are expected to assemble the bed yourself, but the design of the bed allows for this to be done without any tools, as the sides of the bed lock into each other using metal brackets. I would advise doing this with a partner if possible, but it's entirely possible for most to assemble this bed on their own, as well. Though this may not be an issue with every bed from this manufacturer, the hardware was ever so slightly misaligned on mine, leading to a somewhat difficult installation. That said, with assistance, the bed came together just fine. The bed looks very nice, with a rich walnut color. As stated before, due to the hardware (which may only be an issue on my specific bed) the corners are ever so slightly misaligned, but this isn't particularly noticeable unless you go out of your way to look at it, and most sheets would cover this regardless. The bed is somewhat creaky, which took some getting used to coming from a metal bed, but after having slept on this bed for a while now, I've found it to be very stable. All things considered, this is a very solid choice for a bed, though I would recommend waiting to buy it when it is on sale. ... show more
