Frequently asked questions

The NANOWEB coating by Elixir is a patented technology that forms a barrier between the string and the environment. It helps reduce corrosion, prolonging the life of the strings. Additionally, this coating also maintains a natural feel and clear, bright sound for a much longer period than typical strings.

The gauge range for Elixir Custom Light Electric Guitar Strings is .009-.046. This means the thickness of the strings in this set range from 0.009 inches to 0.046 inches, offering a balance between easy bendability for lead playing and enough tension for rhythm playing.

Elixir strings are known for their quality and durability. The Nickel-Plated Steel Electric Guitar Strings in the Custom Light set offer a bright, punchy tone perfect for rock, metal, and blues. The NANOWEB coating helps to extend the life of the strings, maintaining a crisp sound and smooth feel for longer periods of time.

Yes, Elixir Nickel Plated Steel Electric Guitar Strings are designed to work with all types of electric guitars. However, the tone, feel, and longevity could be influenced by the guitar's construction qualities such as the wood type, pickup type, and individual setup preferences.

  • Great tone
Style: 6 String Set Size: Custom Light (.009-.046)
Coated strings, I haven't used anything like these ever and I have been playing for 18 years. Just didn't trust something that was engineered right the first time and worked. But WOW, broke two sets of stings at a gig and my other guitars were in a different tuning Andi didn't want to mess with them. A member of another band gave me these and again WOW. Have had the same set on my JEM for two months and the tone is still very strong and in pitch. The strings are very smooth also. I have bent them vibrato them pinched them and tried very hard to break them. These are very well engineered strings and the coating is still intact. No fraying or peeling, I was a round wound user. I have even tried Maxima strings in the 90 S . you know the gold plated strings that have an amazing tone. They are now Optima, same string different name. But these Elixir coated string have a beautiful tone and feel.. Get a couple of packs and try a couple of gauges, seams like their 9s are a little beefer than Im used to using. But it could be me. Overall beer good string with beautiful tone and life. Best price I have seem also. ... show more

  • Best Strings EVER!
Style: 6 String Set Size: Custom Light (.009-.046)
These are the best strings ever. I've tried almost every string on the market, and these are by far my favorite. They sound great and last forever. Believe the hype...they really DO last FAR longer than any other strings, and they sound great while doing it. Many other strings will sound great for a short while, but as soon as they get "gunked up", they lose any brilliance and tone, and become dead sounding. Not these. They will sound great for the life of the string. In fact, the only way I know to change them eventually is not because they stop sounding good (which they don't), but because I'll start having intonation problems and I know the strings need to be changed. Normal wear and tear does that, but these strings last SO long. I've tried the polyweb strings from Elixir as well, but I didn't like those at all. To me, they didn't FEEL right. Sticky or something (not like your fingers stick to the strings, but like you could tell they were coated). With the Nanowebs, they sound AND feel like regular strings, but last forever. The only string I'll use. ... show more

  • This is why he won’t use any other strings…
Style: 6 String Set Size: Custom Light (.009-.046)
After 10+ years of playing professionally, my husband David Bell swears by Elixir strings. He’s tried them all, and these win every time. The tone, the feel, and how long they last. It just makes a difference. We keep them on repeat. The value is great. Installation is a breeze and the coating stays smooth. ... show more

  • These things last!
Style: 6 String Set Size: Custom Light (.009-.046)
Back when I used Ernie Ball's, I only managed to get 3 or 4 days use out of them before they'd rust and get all gunky. Needless to say, it was getting pretty tiring replacing them all the time. I started looking for new strings and read somewhere that Elixer's have a long life expectancy and good tone. I tried them and I'm never going back. These things rock! I'm still using the same set of strings for 3 weeks now. (I play an average of 4 or 5 hours a day, plus intense practice with my band). They're only just starting to go. It's thanks to the coating on them that they've lasted so long. In case you're wondering how they feel, it's almost like there's a fresh coat of Fast Fret on them. It's so smooth and the tone is brilliant. A worthy buy. ... show more

it works.

  • Good strings.
Good strings. I have yet to find any real difference between them and a regular set, but I guess that's the point. I assume they'll last longer. I normally use GHS Boomers, never had a dead string in the set in over 20 years, so the fact that there were no dead strings in this set was a plus. They sound pretty good too, so I guess the deal is longevity. ... show more

  • The best coated string on the market.
Style: 6 String Set Size: Custom Light (.009-.046)
I admit that I tried Elixer strings a while back and did not care for them. However, I thought I would give them a shot again since I've been trying literally almost every string brand under the sun lately. Here's what I don't like: They don't have as much zing as some other strings, in my opinion. The coating seems to dampen the overtones of the string. Here's what I do like: I typically use some sort of string lubricant with normal strings (either Finger Ease or Fast Fret) to cut down on "string talk" and save the strings from my acid fingers. With Elixer strings, the lubricant is not needed. Due to the coating, the strings are naturally slick (which equates to less string talk) and don't corrode like other strings. Even though some of the overtones are dampened by the coating, this isn't nearly as bad on Elixers as some other coated strings by other brands. The coating is also pretty darn durable and doesn't start peeling or flaking off on you. The bottom line: Elixers manage to find the balance of long life and good tone. Sure, they probably wont be as harmonically rich as some other strings, but you also won't have to change them every week, either. I've decided to leave my main "practice guitar" strung up with Elixers, while the other ones will use a more "alive" string for recordings and performances. This is by far the best coated string on the market. ... show more
