This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in Other Brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes? Premium by design, these electric bass Guitar strings constructed with nickel-plated steel wrap wire boast a rich, rounded tone with incredible clarity and a heavy mid-range presence. Meanwhile, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating, redesigned specifically for bass guitars, allows a smooth, natural feel that also enhances grip and reduces finger squeak. For a brighter bass tone, try our stainless steel bass strings with NANOWEB Coating. Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Frequently asked questions

The NANOWEB coating on these Elixir bass strings is a patented technology by Elixir Strings. It is a thin layer that covers the entire string, helping to protect it from dirt, sweat and moisture, thus extending the life of the strings while maintaining their tone and feel.

The gauge of these strings is Super Light (.040-.095). This refers to the thickness of the strings, with .040 being the thinnest, or 'G' string, and .095 the thickest, or 'E' string in standard tuning. This gauge provides ease of playability and a bright tone.

These Elixir strings are designed for 4-string bass guitars with a long scale length. They are made with nickel plated steel, which is known for its bright tone and excellent magnetic response, making them suitable for a wide range of bass guitar types.

The longevity of Elixir bass strings can vary depending on factors such as how often you play, the playing style, and how well you take care of your strings. However, due to the NANOWEB coating technology used, these strings tend to last longer than uncoated strings, with some users reporting they can last for several months.

  • Truly exceptional strings.

I’ve been playing bass for a really long time and I can honestly tell you three main reasons why I continue to buy elixir strings over many years, and counting.. 1-They last forever. They really do. From sweat, dirt, and whatever else ends up on the strings they maintain a consistent tone and feel. For a test, I’ve had a set on a particular favorite bass I use and played multiple performances over summertime, both outdoor and indoor and they still didn’t need to be changed for almost 6 months. 2 - They have a great tone. I specifically use them on jazz, Pj, and humbucker driven basses and the tone is smooth with the appropriate bite and kick, when needed, be it driving, slap, or light touch. I especially like them on Jazz bass pick up configurations. 3- They feel smooth. It may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but when you play exacting bass lines for long periods, I feel my finger tips aren’t as fatigued or worn out compared to non-coated strings. Don’t get me wrong: non-coated rounds are awesome but elixirs are the perfect balance of string choice for me, all things considered. ... show more

I’ve been playing for 50 years, and I’ve tried all the usual suspects in bass strings, but once I got my hands on Elixirs, there was no turning back, because there is literally nothing on the market quite like them. Easy on the fingers, buttery smooth and easy to play, long lasting, and consistent quality from set to set. I prefer the 45-105 (45-130 for my 5-string) nickel plated, although you can get the stainless ones if you want a brighter sound. I use them on all five the basses I use regularly (Sire V10dx, Rickenbacker 4003, Yamaha TRBX605FM 5-string, Fender MIM Deluxe Precision P/J and my 1983 Guild Pilot. I play out pretty much every week, and get great tone and life out of these strings, often going 4-6 months before I change them out. They are so playable, they actually help my play faster and more precisely, across a wide variety of music. If they aren’t using them, I tell my fellow bass players all the time: try them! I wish everything we bought was of this high, consistent quality. If you are a gigging bass player and you’re serious about your gear, they are WELL WORTH the expense. Very highly recommended. ... show more

  • Much Needed Upgrade.
Size: Lt Medium, Long Scale (.045-.135) Style: 5 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
My Tobias bass had been neglected for awhile, so I decided it was long past time to put new strings on it and do a proper / complete set-up and adjustment on it. It was worth the effort. I'd suggest before installing the Elixir's, you do a truss rod adjustment using the old stings to determine height - if needed. THEN put these on and do your set-up and adjustment to your axe. These are round-wound and have a nice feel to them. I'm used to flat-wound, but wanted something a little brighter and these fit the bill nicely. These fit my long-scale bass with minimal trimming. No dead strings in the package. The sound is solid and a lot of the new string stretch was gone in the first 72 hours. The 135 low B string IS beefy, but fit through the bridge without too much fuss. I DID have to file the nut a hair to get it to seat firmly, but nothing excessive. So far, I'm very pleased with these new strings. ... show more
