If I were using this to dry fruits and vegetables, the problems I have with this dehydrator probably wouldn't bother me. But I'm using to dry spools of 3D printing filament. For those of you who don't know, filament absorbs water directly from the humidity in the air. It must be kept dry in order to use it to print. 20% relative humidity is too much. I live in an area where the ambient relative humidity is above 40% most of the year, and above 60% in the summer. Keeping filament dry, even while using a dry box is difficult. So, periodically, I have to dry it out. I put the spool of filament into the dehydrator and set the temperature for 55C to 58C but less than 60C (131F to 136F but less than 140F) and keep it there for 4 to 6 hours. This dehydrator is very capable of reaching those temperatures, but not so good at maintaining the temperature. I'm using a ThermoPro temperature probe (known to be very accurate) to monitor the temperature inside the dehydrator and the temperature can fluctuate wildly. For my purpose, this can be disasterous. But, again, if I was drying fruits or vegetables, I wouldn't care about this. And unless you're using it for filament, you shouldn't either. For my purposes, I cut an area the size of a spool out of the middle of 2 trays, so the spool will fit inside the dehydrator. I could use 2 more trays, so I can add a 2nd spool, but Amazon doesn't sell replacement trays to fit. Contacting the manufacturer, they sell them, but including tax and shipping, they're $30+ for 2 trays. That's double the Amazon price for other brands (that do not fit this dehydrator). I might as well just buy another dehydrator and get 5 trays and a spare base for $9 more.

I've had this thing for 4 months and it's definitely got some good use. I've tried herbs and just about any fruit that can be dried. You can definitely hear the fan when it's on but it's nothing more than a fan. I followed the instructions for the first use and I don't get any burning or plastic smell and everything I've dried tastes just fine. Each rack can be set low or high depending on the size of what you're drying. This dehydrator was a steal for the sale price I purchased it at. I've definitely gotten my money's worth.

Works great, 5 layers that have variable spacing height. I can dry 3.5 lbs of beef, or maybe 8 apples, or 2 pineapples. I usually load it about 8pm, I wake up the next day and usually the food is ready to store. Inexpensive and good product. I put it in my garage, as sometimes the smells get too strong in my house.

Unbeatable for the price. I am not an expert at dehydration, so I cannot compare to high end units. All I know is this did the job I needed it to do for apricots and european plums

Instruction booklet (yes it came with one) says bananas take 7-8 hours but it took me over 24 hours to 11 bananas sliced which filled all 5 trays. I also had to crank the temp way up beyond what was recommended. The temp control is a simple knob with broad ranges. I have no idea if the knob is accurate. I wish it had a digital temp readout and also a timer so I could set it to shut off after 8 hours. As is, you have to let it run all night and unplug it from the wall when done - there is no off switch. The fan seems unnecessarily loud and rattly, and it just doesn't seem to generate much air flow, although I have nothing to compare it with, so maybe that is by design. I've done bananas and apple slices with it. I was going to make beef Jerky, but the lack of a reliable temp control makes me nervous. I will probably upgrade to a better dehydrator before I do meat. Pros: This is a bare bones unit for a low price and it does dehydrate fruit and it's easy to clean.
