I bought this so that we could better handle dictation on our iMac. This is a condenser microphone, and it definitely makes better sound recordings than the built in mics. Unfortunately, it did not seem to help with dictation at all. I don’t know, I bet it would be great if we ever get into podcasting.

TL;DR: -------- The microphone is good quality but the software is lacking basic functionality (unusable for me). Doesn't work well with wireless earphones and requires constant fiddling with manual selections for settings that should be auto detected. If buying this for the software - I advise you to read my full review and reconsider. Elgato's technical support provided unhelpful replies and basically told me that's the way it is. Full review: -------------- * The microphone - well built, sturdy, nice materials, picks up my voice well, mute button is very handy and works well. * The software (Wave Link) - I ran into 2 major issues: Issue #1 - After turning off the earphones, the next time I turn them on - no sound! The only way to get sound back - open Wave Link and manually select another output device and then select the earphones again. Issue #2 - Wave Link does not detect connection/disconnection of the earphones (switching from speakers to earphones and vice versa) while Windows (and every other software) detects without problem. The only way to switch between them is open Wave Link and manually select the output every time. Not even a hotkey toggle option. I use wireless earphones and I switch frequently between them and speakers so having to open Wave Link each time and manually select outputs again and again is tedious and unrealistic. I contacted Elgato's technical support, hoping for assistance so I could use the software as intended. They had no solutions and told me that I can suggest fixing these issues as a feature request(!). I replied that this is basic functionality, not a "feature". The last reply I received from them made me feel like they couldn't care less. So unfortunately I ended up using the microphone without the software. * Details: I use a fully updated Windows 11, relatively new PC (i7-10700K, 32GB RAM, Asus ROG Strix Z490-E). Latest version of Wave Link (1.5.0.2889), latest Wave 1 firmware (1.2.2). * What I tested: - Wireless (bluetooth) earbuds & wireless (bluetooth) headphones - had issues 1 & 2 - Wireless headphones with a USB dongle - I haven't tested. Read online that some have issues 1 & 2 and some don't. - Wired earbuds connected to the PC - issue 1 is not relevant (no on/off option in wired earbuds), didn't have issue 2 only because the output title didn't change after connecting the wired earbuds (stayed as "Speakers"). - Wired earbuds connected to the back of the Wave 1 microphone - issue 1 is not relevant (no on/off option in wired earbuds), had issue 2. * Bottom line : The microphone is good but the software (Wave Link) is pretty broken and unusable at the moment. I'm not sure I would have bought this microphone if I knew that beforehand. The issues I experienced seem to be common (if you google them) so I'm not sure why there aren't more people talking about this in their reviews. Most reviews I read (before purchase) were raving about the microphone AND the software. If you use wired headphones or don't switch often between headphones and speakers or fine with repeated manual settings adjustments - I guess this microphone would be a good choice for you. But in any other case - you should probably check other options.

This mic is a great option for those looking for a good mic for talking/gaming/streaming. The build is very solid and the sound quality is great and clear. One amazing thing that comes with this mic is the software. It allows you to route the programs on your PC to different channels so you can manage what you hear and what your stream/others hear. The program also supports VST plugins so you're able to add extras such as noise gates and compressors to really take your sound quality to the next level. In terms of hardware, there is only one physical knob dial that you can press and turn. Pressing the knob will mute and unmute the mic while the dial can be set to adjust the input/output level. This is very handy. Overall, I highly recommend this mic over some similarly priced mics.

I'm not a newbie to audio things just the software that comes with this mic. Normally I just plug a mic it and go before this mic I was using a blue yeti for years then I wanted to try a newer mic. I think my blue yeti is four or 5 years old so it was time to get a newer on. I seen this on a YouTube review by senpai gaming. I don't normally buy things YouTubers review but after watching his review and then looking in to the mic more and other reviews from people that got the mic. I got the mic and works great I'm still messing with setting and what not. I don't talk that loud and it picks me up as long as I have the mic where it's supposed to be. As for the software that comes with it. It's not that hard to use or figure out if you get stumped there are alot of YouTube setup guides to make it easier. Worth the money and not you can add voice mods to the software to tweak your voice more.
