After reading so many negative reviews below, I felt I needed to write my own because I love this little red guy I got on Black Friday. It replaced my 5 year old Pixma 3000 series and it simply blows it out of the water on everything: - Printing is much faster and the Wi-Fi data transfer happens much faster - It feels much more responsive - The color quality is wonderful (pictures and documents) - It's quieter than the older printer I felt like I was rolling the dice on this printer's purchase, but I'm thrilled with it. I suspect that either a bunch of people got a lemon, or they simply can't follow basic instructions or don't know basic networking to set up the devices. Some people reported issues with Wi-Fi setup - my router has two networks (one on 2.4 and the other on 5Gig) - I had to change my PC's network from 5G and downgraded it to 2.4G as this printer doesn't work on the AC protocol, but does on N. Once I did that, and went to the link from the user manual, the setup was flawless on my PC. I don't particularly care for the software the Canon offers, nor do I appreciate the attempts at getting me to agree to send anonymous data to them, but other than that, this is a fantastic printer and a much needed upgrade to my old unit. Plus it looks great in red. Another review said it was extremely loud - this is simply not my experience. Lemon? So, wanted to set the record straight because I almost didn't buy this printer because of the negative reviews. My only dislike is that there are a lot of pieces to this printer, and all of them are plastic which give it a slightly flimsy feel. But since it's a sub-$100 printer, I really can't fault it for it. Item, Canon TS-8220 All-in-One Printer, was purchased to replace my aging Canon TS-9020, which continued to perform well after 7 1/2 years of high use. The two units have similar features. The TS-9020 cost only 99 dollars from amazon back in January 2018. The base price of the TS-8220 at amazon was 345.00 dollars. The speed and print quality of documents and photographs are exceptional. I am pleased that I was able to successfully connect this printer to my legacy micron PC running Windows XP (!), which has no internet connection (by choice). The supplied Set-Up CD-ROM allowed me to do this, though I was unsure if it would work with Windows XP. ... show more

My Canon MG5220 finally died after seven or so years of loyal service, so this model seemed to be the best replacement. Setup was a breeze and it connected to my WiFi in minutes. Print quality is excellent, both text and color photos. My only real gripe is the auto output tray. It extends several inches beyond the front of the printer when you send a job, but will only retract when you turn the printer off, which I never do. So, you have to manually push the tray back in if you keep the printer in a desk drawer like I do. If instead you just keep the printer on a desk or cabinet, then no worries; the output tray is not that obtrusive. For the price, this is a great little printer. I only hope it holds up as long as the one it replaced. Know that using 3rd party cartridges will void the warranty; the absurd cost of factory carts is a major downside of inkjet printers, but once the printer is out of warranty, you can use what you like. ... show more

Well, this is a lovely printer that have had for almost a year and a half. I guess I'm so old I still expect things to last longer than that for the money. It wasn't expensive but it's not what I would consider cheap, either. It will not even come on. I used it a few days ago and it was fine. Now today nothing. It you want a printer that is good for a year or so.... Buy it. If you want one that will give you your money 's worth, I do not recommend this one. Yes, I unplugged it. Yes, I unplugged the power cord and let it sit for an hour and reconnected. Yes, I went to YouTube to find a video. No luck. ... show more

    • HORRIBLE! Has Jammed more in 2 months than all my previous Printers COMBINED!

This may be the worst printer Canon has ever made! I have owned 3 previous Canon models over the past 15 years and the design workmanship on this is a major step toward the inferior. The front paper tray is the worst design on any printer I have ever owned. The screen panel does not retract on its own like my previous model did, and the plastic on the tray feels like it is made of Legos. This printer has Jammed more in 2 months than all my previous Printers COMBINED! The wheel/pulley mechanism behind the glass squeeks when scanning! The ink cartridges do not last long and you get warnings about being low on ink VERY LONG BEFORE the cartridge runs out. When I replaced the cartridges with Canon brand replacements, for some reason the indicator on the Cyan did not reset so the ink level screen still shows it almost empty when it is still nearly full! Print quality is still typical Canon quality for photos, but sometimes printing from a web page comes out such a light gray, even when choosing Black only setting, that it is barely readable. I would not buy this printer again and recommend you seek an alternative for your buying decision. ... show more
