The media could not be loaded. I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 8 year old. Once we opened it, we couldn’t quit playing with it. The directions start simple and get more complex. We had so much fun seeing what each level would do; from flying saucers to music, lights, and space sounds combined. Not only is this fun, but it’s a learning opportunity. The book explains each part and also has what “not to do”. I do think for young kids this needs to be done with a parent because you are playing with electricity. Overall, I will be purchasing another box of these with different setups. We skipped the beginner box, and I feel like that was a good move. The quality is great, pieces are sturdy and snap easily to the circuit board. Perfect for a different kind of fun. ... show more

So far, so good. Only through the first dozen or so experiments. My just-turned-seven-year-old grandson and I are having a good time with the SC Pro. He took to it right away, figuring out how to assemble the parts and how to make things work, without much if any reading of instructions. He pesters me to use it, and to use it WITH him, which is the best you can hope for from an activity that is on the healthy side of today's offerings for children. In response to some of the negative reviews I read before purchase: So far all of the parts we've used have worked fine. But we have yet to use all the ones included yet. Regarding the complaints about this product's lack of explanation about what the circuit is actually doing, I'd say this. As I mentioned, I've barely read any of the manual, so if electronic theory guidance is there or not I couldn't say for sure. My perusal of the text has yet to reveal any significant attempt at theory. But that's kind of my point. For a child within the age range this activity would appeal to, I'm not sure he/she would be interested in slowing down "building the next one" for a long explanation of what the circuit is doing. We hardly look at the text at all. Would it be great if all the theory was there, I suppose, I just don't think it would get read. I know a bit about electronics, and I tried to slow him down enough to explain how the electrons move and what they are doing and how series and parallel circuits affect results, etc, but he just kinda glazes over and is more interested in flicking the switch or starting the next experiment. And realistically, other than explaining how electrons move around a closed circuit, the amount of text necessary to explain how complex components do what they do (transistors, diodes, the enclosed sound modules, etc) would be quite large and cumbersome. I think that approach could do as much harm as good, in terms of keeping a young mind interested and engaged. Better to give them the exposure than to turn them off to it altogether by trying to cram too much information during a session that's meant to be fun. Will this product lead to a better understanding of electricity and electronics? Yes, definitely. Will it teach him how to engineer circuits and program IC chips, probably not. But it might spark an interest in such things that later in life would lead to more comprehensive study, within an environment better suited for learning such things (like a classroom with a proper teacher). I think the manufacturers of SC Pro have achieved the correct balance: exposure to something of this nature without making it such a chore that would only turn off a young mind to the possibilities. Now if only my old eyes could read all the little text on all the little parts! No worries, I have my grandson to do that for me!! Edit: In reading my review after being notified by Amazon that it had been posted, I noticed a rather large price cut. About $25 bucks, which is about 25% of what I paid. Did this seller nick me because I bought it just before Christmas? Supply and demand, I guess... ... show more

Very high quality and super fun. We bought this as an “advent calendar” for my nephew to do a few projects a day before Christmas. He is obsessed and his grandma does it with him each night. We had one part we thought was broke (user error) but customer service was awesome and responded quickly. Will definitely be buying more of these sets! I love the he’s learning about circuits as well as physics concepts like light, sound, motors, energy, and even lift… and he’s only 8!! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This kit has been such a hit in our house. It’s incredibly easy for kids to use thanks to the snap-together pieces—no tools, no frustration. My child was able to follow the instructions and start building simple circuits right away. The educational value is excellent. It teaches basic electronics concepts in a hands-on way that keeps them engaged. Watching lights flash and fans spin after completing a project really sparks curiosity and excitement. Build quality is solid. The pieces feel durable and have held up to plenty of assembling and disassembling. I gave this to my grandson for his 8th birthday. He absolutely loves it. He is very into how things work and loves science expiraments. When asked what he wanted for his birthday he said, and a quote, "scienc-y stuff!". The Snap Circuits board was the perfect gift. I love that all components snap onto the board. It holds everything in place and keeps it in order, it also makes it very easy to organize and put away.
