  • Wow
I am an amateur DJ and I was needing some solid speakers. I was going to get the JBL JRX speakers on Amazon (the ones that are crazy cheap for JBL's) but then I read a thread saying that the EV ELX 112 was more powerful than the JBL's. Yes. These speakers are about 20 pounds lighter and are more powerful! What!? These speakers look incredibly handsome as well. I would definitely recommend these to anyone. By the way, the difference between passive and active does not matter to me. The quality is still the same so I would rather save 400 dollars for the passive speakers. ... show more

Arrived with the screen mesh grill cover pushed in. The speaker should still be functional so I'll just live with it. .....but how annoying......

Great sound. But the case is fragile - the wood is not protected and chips easily. The Grill is flimsy and once dented is very difficult to fix.

  • The Best in Class - but...
These are hands down the best speakers you can get for under $300, period. Compare them side by side with anything in their price range and that will be instantly apparent. They are extremely clear with a warmth that only a real wood cabinet can bring. All the other brands sounded so harsh and shrill next to these. Also very tight (not boomy) bass and lots of it for a cabinet of this size. Just wonderful. In this case you get MUCH more than what you pay for. Don't hesitate. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ UPDATE: I've changed my rating down to 3 stars for the following reason; After 18 months of use (about twice a week) the voice coil in the horn diaphragms blew on both speakers I have. The internal fuse that is supposed to protect the horn's coil did NOT blow. Then (after speaking with EV on the phone) I brought the diaphragm down to the authorized EV service center, only to be told that the units were blown because I over powered them (not true) and EV wouldn't pay for the replacements. I asked why the protection fuse didn't blow and they had no real answer. So I had to pay for the diaphragms to get the speakers working again. They were $65 each, so I spent $130 for the pair. These speakers came with a 5 year warranty, but now I find that the warranty is essentially a sham and EV won't stand by its products. I love the way these speakers sound, but if they aren't dependable and the company won't honor its warranty I say look elsewhere. I'd start with the Turbosound Milan M12's ... show more

  • You Get What You Pay For
These speakers are EV's entry level and very affordable. While they are built nice and look good the sound is harsh and lacks warmth. While I have not done the measurements I doubt the SPL is anywhere near what it claims on the spec sheet. These are good speakers for amateur djs or to use as floor monitors, but I would not use them for serious events as FOH speakers. If you are on a serious budget these will work better than other entry level speakers, but not the quality I was hoping for from EV. Then again 'quality' speakers cannot be bought for such a cheap price. You get what you pay for..... ... show more

  • good utility speaker.
Bought these speaker for Dj Booth monitors. During show setup they seemed to sound pretty good. clear midrange and some kick drum (decent bass). I did not critically listen to them but I was pleased in passing. My DJ's pushed them to hard a few times and they get harsh sounding. but when properly powered they sound good for the money. ... show more

  • I laugh when I read all poor reviews for these speakers
I laugh when I read all poor reviews for these speakers. I own and run a sound reinforcement company and use these speakers on a weekly basis. these are a great mid and high range speaker designed for things other then a FOH speaker. These are extreamly clear speakers WHEN CROSSED OVER CORRECTLY. I use these for monitor /side fill speakers in my productions. Again these are great for mid range and vocals. Lastly for those spec readers out there, you look stupid when you talk about specs. In the real world if its not loud enough, add more cabinents. If you over power these, YES they will sound distorted and crappy But if you use them correctly for what they were designed they are excellent. ... show more
