4-5-2024 OG review: I will update this as the temperatures change where I live. 5 stars for packaging. It was very well packed in a crate. I bought this because our pool will never get over 80f. Which is nice if it is 107f outside. But when it consistently is in the 70-78f range, and the outside air temp is the same, the grandkids don't want to get in it. So, I purchased this in mid-March of this year, and I installed it myself. Installation is very easy if you are handy and have plumbing skills. As a heat pump it is more efficient at temps above 50f. Knowing this going in will maybe help you understand it does not work in freezing temps in fact it has a protective setting at 46f. That being said, I have managed to get the pool to 80f with 50f ambient air temps. I did have a problem with the unit icing up. I sent tech support an email and had an answer back the next day. Due to ambient temps and average humidity tech support had me make some adjustments to some of the settings and it hasn't frozen up since. Kudos to their tech support person Lily. It is currently getting down in the lower 30s f here at night, so I don't run the pool heater. However, with a thermal pool cover and outside air Temps at 33f, the pool water is at 65f this morning. I have a programmable timer and I have everything set to come on at 9:00am when the air temperature should be above 46f and off around 8 pm when I know the temps will drop. I get this info from my weather app and program the pump timer appropriately. The heater does not operate unless the pump is running so when the timer starts the pump and the heater senses water flow for 3 minutes, the heater will turn on if the incoming water temp is below the heater temperature set point. Keeping in mind the heater will shut off once the desired temperature is reached. So, it doesn't run all the time soaking up energy. Essentially there has not been enough above 50f since installation to give a good assessment of the operation of the heater. Again, I have installed this to extend the usage months of the pool. Last year the grandkids got in it twice, I got in it once in July. We live on a hill in mid-TN. This is a semi-inground pool. It gets at least 10 hours of direct sun in the summertime. For some reason when all my neighbors have floating sprinklers in theirs to keep it cool, my stays cold. The jury is out on this. I will update later in the spring.
