  • Essential Info For Electric Guitar Owners
Owning an electric guitar means performing routine maintenance on the guitar. That's where this book can help you. There are lots of adjustment points built into modern electric guitars. And unless you know what you're doing (and why), these adjustments can tempt you to mess around with your guitar and make things worse instead of better. With this book, you can avoid that trap. You'll find step-by-step instructions for setting up your guitar, replacing strings, changing string gauges, dealing with common electronics problems, and more. Best of all, the book gives you good advice about when you're probably in over your head and should hire a professional luthier to fix your guitar. After you read this maintenance and repair manual, you'll have a good, solid layman's understanding of how guitars work. The pictures are clear and instructive. The text is simple and complete (though it could use a bit of minor copy-editing in a few isolated places). The organization of the topics is logical. I'm not going to tell you that you need this book, but I will tell you that, as an electric guitar player, you need the information contained in this book. If you don't already have this info, you might as well get it from this book. ... show more

  • Best Guitar Maintenance Book not filled with nonsense.
I was looking for a book to help me understand how to properly dial in my electric and acoustic guitars. After downloading a sample of this authors acoustic guide, I purchased both the electric and acoustic books. After reading them and servicing my guitars with the information the contained my guitars have never played better. The best change was setting the pickups on my semi hollow body Jazz axe. The necks on all of my guitars but 1 (Taylor K14ce Builders Edition) were adjusted as well as string height and intonation set. These 2 are amongst the best guitar books ever purchased. And the price for the kindle version was easily half of what I would have spent. Living "off grid in the mountains means we do everything for ourselves so these books were a gift, so to speak. ... show more

  • Good section on doing your own Set-Up
I reference this any time I am doing new sorts maintenance, or making adjustments to my guitar, and so far it has not steered me wrong. I initially picked this up for the section on doing your own set-up, but I honestly learned a few pointers on things I had already been doing for years, like changing strings (I won't be boiling any strings though, as it makes mention of at one point!) ... show more

  • nice book
It gives the most common issues that one can maintain themselves and also makes it clear when NOT to do it yourself, but to take it to a luthier.

  • Contains some good information.
Although the book contains some good information, it is not well written. In particular the use of poor grammar makes reading annoying. There is also incorrect reference to measurement units. She makes reference to measuring 1/32 or 1/64 of a millimeter. A millimeter is metric, measuring 1/32 or 1/64 are fractions of an inch, not a millimeter. I'm glad it was a free book. ... show more

  • Simple, Easy"Nuts & Bolts"Approach!
This guide lays out the correct way to do a basic guitar setup in 5 easy to understand steps. I highly recommend this as a basic how-to for the beginner to intermediate luthier-to-be! This is a 'basic' guide that allows you to methodically set up a guitar that has no major problems to begin with. This will not tell you how to do a neck reset on an acoustic, or shim an electric bolt-on neck for instance. The guide is cheap, effective and very informative, considering the pittance of a price being paid for it. This author obviously loves guitars and has a commendable desire to not only be able to make all the BASIC adjustments for themselves, but also to briefly and effectively explain WHY the adjustments work. Highly Recommended. ... show more

  • Worth the couple bucks
I “built”…..assembled a kit guitar and could never get the action & tuning quite right. I even took it to a guitar shop to adjust (but never sounded clean). This book gave me direction on correcting the problem (the guitar “tech” at shop just must’ve invested NO time trying to fix my problem).

  • Nice Book
My guitar was constantly buzzing from some sort of interference. I have no music shop in my town, and didn't feel like driving 150 miles to get it checked out, and spending a crazy amount of money. Luckily it was a loose input jack, and i was able to replace it myself. Under $50.
