With the LTD AP-4, we started with a traditionally-styled body, but then took things in a new, high-performance direction that only ESP can offer. Designed to be a bass that blows away the expectations of players of any musical style, from metal to punk, reggae to funk, the AP-4 has the great playing feel and the professional components that make it a winner by any definition. It begins with a classic bolt-on design, with an alder body and smooth, thin U-shaped maple neck at 34" scale. For an excellent variety of tone, the AP-4 offers a set of active EMG P and LJ pickups, with a volume, balance, and tone control to dial in your sound quickly. It offers an ebony fingerboard with 21 extra- jumbo frets, reliable Grover tuners, and a Babicz FCH-4 bridge for terrific tone and sustain power. Also available in a 5-string version with the LTD AP-5.

ESP has been in the game for a very long time now and really know how to put together a quality instrument. This bass is no different, and is a great offering from LTD because it is a nice modern take on the original P bass style whose looks should appeal to many players. As someone else said, it has top notch hardware, and along with a well built instrument is a good combination. Neck feels ultra smooth and amazing, generous string spacing makes playing effortless, massacar ebony board feels super smooth and great fretwork make this a real player. The tone of this bass is really clean and powerful, with incredible punch and what I really like is that the pickups are active but the controls feel passive. You get about 3000 hours from the battery in this configuration instead of just 200 with a full preamp. In addition, it makes for much easier changes in tone and simplifies everything, which is great for when you are on stage. Great amount of tones and control from this full, all in one design instead of separate parts where you are not sure what you might get. I feel like I got a boutique instrument for a third of the price and the black on black is just killer. ... show more

Excellent bass. The pickups sound great, the neck and ebony board and frets feel really nice. Modern yet classic at the same time. Really happy with this one.
