I love the range hood. I never used it above a "2" setting because the suction worked so well, even for the front burners on my range. The delay-off function is delightful. Alas, something happened nearly 5 years after I purchased it, and it stopped working. I wrote to Ekon, and they have been wonderfully responsive. They have supplied most of the electronic parts to repair it, at no charge. We're still working on that, and I will update the review as soon as it's working again. So I purchased this item, and one of the motors started making noise. After diagnosing the unit, I determined the bearing was going out on one motor. I emailed the company, and they were quick to respond. They asked me to send a video and that they would get back to me within a couple of days. They did, and they sent out a whole new unit and asked me to throw the other one away. This unit is of high standards. This met some hard-to-find specifications as far as what would fit in our old house but I don't like this thing at all. If I'm cooking on my front burners, which I do most of the time, it doesn't actively pull the steam away/up even when I put it on the highest fan setting which is very loud. It does an okay job if I cook on my back burners - basically if the steam is already headed the exact direction of where the fan is it will pull it up. If not, it barely matters if it's even on. The lights are really bright with no adjustments. You have to click a button to allow you to turn the fan on - it doesn't actually turn the fan on yet, you have to click different button to adjust the speed in order to start it. The timer is annoying because you have to click it up one minute at a time slowly and the buttons aren't very responsive. I do like the remote - I don't bother with trying to do the timer and like it that I can turn it off from the table after a while. I plan to replace it as soon as I find something else that will fit. ... show more

It came in a sturdy cardboard box, with plastic corner protectors, like the protectors used on old steamer trucks. The range hood itself was completely encapsulated in a stiff resilient foam on all sides. There was no damage. My unit is only two weeks old and already a few bugs with the light controls. Press the light button and the lights come on, but about half power. Only way I have fixed this is to unplug the unit and replug. Then all controls works as they should. I hope this unit lasts and works well over time. That is the true test. Although this control light panel is not a huge problem, for a near $400.00 unit that is two weeks old, it does have me concerned. There is no USA retailer for information on this EKON line. All business is done through China UPDATE: I have had this unit for over a year and it has preformed as promised. The highest fan setting is loud, but it is about 900 CFM, so I expect it to be loud. Once you get the feel of operating the touch panel, it operates as it should, but it does take a certain touch to activate the controls. Once learned there is no problem.
