  • A solid pole saw
Style: Pole Saw w/5.0Ah Battery
I spent a quick 30 minutes with the saw after receiving it. The 5.0 battery and rapid charger are nice additions to the set of Ego tools I have already - my main reason to purchase this was to be able to share batteries between yard tools. The trigger design is nice, you don't need to press the safety each cut. The variable speed (you have precise control) and power were more than enough for the light trimming I did. I'll test on some 8" logs I have later. One thing I want to point out is that the saw with the battery weighed in at 18.7 pounds. It gives your arms a good workout reaching for higher branches. I'd like to see other tools such as the line trimmer incorporate the gentle linear speed control of this tool and trigger design. ... show more

  • Wife likes it I have not decided yet...
Style: Backpack Link
Been switching over all my outdoor tools to Ego for the extra run time compared to my Makita 18/36V tools, so much more run time. While I really like the Ego stuff, the one thing is the batteries really add some weight. They are much bigger batteries with more juice, so can't blame them for being what they are suppose to be. Not knocking the batteries. So, figured this backpack would be a handy accessory, my wife even more so. She tried it on with a 5Ah battery and the blower attached and she really likes it. Sure takes the weight off the tool. Plus it's easy to hook up, easy switching between tools as well. I also thought it would be even more useful if I get bigger batteries like the 10Ah and the new 12Ah (big prices though). For me though, so far it just seems to pull down on my back, just does not feel super comfortable. It's not bad, just feels awkward? Not sure how to explain it. I don't hate it and maybe once I get it, or mess with the adjustments, it might be better. And it will still be worth it for the lower tool weight. Seems it could have been designed a little better. That is just my opinion. Very handy accessory, just might not be comfortable to every one. I don't regret buying it. ... show more

  • Takes the load off of your arms and shoulders
Style: Backpack Link
I use the back pack with my 7.5 amp-hour batteries. Really reduces the arm and should strain when using the pole saw, string trimmer, edger or hedge trimmer. Takes a little bit of a learning curve to get the back pack situated without having the assembly come apart. I find it easiest to leave the assembly on a table top and then put it all on. ... show more

  • Defective! EGO service horrible!
Style: String Trimmer (No Battery/Charger)
FYI this unit has been discontinued and yet they still sell it with the known issues. My unit requires the backpack battery setup which I bought along with this and the commercial blower. The power plug connects to the trimmer but does not stay connected, it simply falls out. There is no retention clips like with all their current products (likely the reason they discontinued). Well with the plug falling out literally every 10-20 seconds makes this not fu action at all. Customer service was horrible! They refused to tell me if this was a known issue and said I have to take it to a service center. Which is 30 minutes from where I live. No thanks! Brand new units don’t need service, they need returned if broken. Now I just need to determine if I return all 10,000$ worth of zero turn mower, snow blower, blowers, chargers and batteries. When I told her all I bought and I was concerned about quality, she just told me to return it all. Wow! Never had a company so quick to just want you to return over 10k worth of products. What a joke of a company. May have been Geo the rep, but the rep is the company as far as I’m concerned. ... show more

  • Great Idea, Problems in Use
Style: Backpack Link
All my ego purchases have been excellent except for this product. The battery backpack is a great idea worth 5 stars but in use will rate only 2-3 depending on how you use it. The battery holder and backpack are held together by sliding clips that are counter-intuitive. After much experience they still can separate unexpectedly when moving the pack around. Once on my back it's been OK. The plug from the pack to the dummy battery (connecting the device you're using) has a clip on the right shoulder strap which doesn't hold the plug in place. The moment you reach down or move a little side to side it slips off and plummets into the ground with the contact opening often getting plugged with dirt. If there's any mist or light rain or debris blowing around, (or when it falls off the clip) there is nothing to protect these contacts. A simple slip on cover would have been perfect. I've solved this by shoving the plug up under my chest strap - awkward but better than trying to clean mud and debris out of the contacts opening. Also, if you bend down to plug in the cable or pick something up, you can expect the entire backpack to come sliding forward onto you neck and head. I solved this by adding a simple light weight belly strap to the bottom of the pack. Plugging into alternate equipment (e.g. pole chainsaw and 19 inch chainsaw) you'll find transferring the dummy battery awkward and you can't shove that up under the chest strap. I solved that problem by buying a second dummy battery so I only have to remove the plug not the entire dummy battery. If you're just using one device simply like walking with a blower then I'd give it 3 stars. If you're trying to use it between two devices then it's a 2 star rating even with my partial problem solving. ... show more

  • A great addition to my Ego tools.
Style: Backpack Link
Holding the tool (leaf blower, power broom, chain saw) and the battery takes a toll after a while. This accessory shifts some of the load from your hand and arms and transfers the load to your back. Makes yard tasks much less tiring.
