I purchased this item for use with a Dell OptiPlex 745 running Windows 10. It took several steps to get it to work, however. The drivers that are included on the mini-cd that ships with the product DO NOT have Windows 10 drivers included. You must go to the edimax website and download the drivers for Windows 10. What's initially frustrating is that the 7611ULB IS NOT listed in the compatible Windows 10 hardware list on edimax's site. Only after I went searching on their downloads page did I find that version 1.0.0.3 of their software supports Windows 10. What made the installation even more complicated was that I had to run their setup application at least three times, rebooting after each failed install, until the adapter finally lit up with the blue light indicating it had power. Connecting then to my wireless router was routine and has been reliable. The bluetooth it offers is really nice and I was using it to transfer files to and from my cell phone. I also was playing the Google Play app on my phone and listening to it through the edimax adapter on my PC's speakers. I can also control the Play app tracks with the software on the PC. I also connected a Dell wireless keyboard with this adapter to my PC. The connection rate I get to my router is about 72, not the 150 the adapter suggested. I am about 35 feet from my wireless router and I have the adapter in a front USB port as suggested by edimax for better connectivity. Having nothing else to compare to, this adapter seems reliable and has been operating without any problems for the few days I have owned it. The price is decent in my opinion and so far my only complaint is that using it with Windows 10 was initially tough to get working. ... show more

    • Good Effort - More of a Miss For Me than a Hit - Here's Why

In terms of its price point - it's great when it works well. I tried it on the following OSs: High Sierra, Sierra, Mountain Lion, and El Capitan - thinking there was an issue with High Sierra or something. Having a MBP, I can't put in the 3" CD that comes in the packaging - so Mac users have to download the software from the site. The site has 2 places to download what looks like different software (I don't know if it's a caching issue or what) - nonetheless, I downloaded both with each install and reinstall of the aforementioned Mac OS versions. No dice. I tried both USB ports - no dice. I know the USB works - I use it for my iPhone lightning cable as well as USB hub and flash stick. I don't know what possessed me to do this - but I wiggled the USB nic and noticed it doesn't go all the way in - like it shifts to the right or left at about a 15 degree angle. I unknowingly left it with the acute side of the angle pointing towards the back of the laptop, and it found the USB nic. When I tilt it with the acute angle towards me, the nic is back to being undetected. The weird thing is that this only worked in a specific USB port. It wouldn't work in the hub. I got over it and was like - ok it's better than nothing - let's just accept and move on. The problem is that the nic gets hot, and is a battery drain. My laptop gets hot, and the wifi signal sometimes goes in a loop searching for networks. It doesn't see my 5G network or the other networks I see on my iPhone and other laptops - mind you, I'm about 10ft from the router. Again - better something than nothing. When my laptop goes into sleep mode, sometimes the nic doesn't wake up. Sometimes I can go into the edimax tool and click on "Turn off USB" and then turn it back on and it comes back on. More times than not though, I had to reboot. I'm a medical student that needs my wifi to study. This was a serious let down. I'd give it 0 stars, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt in the event it was a lack of QA leading to a bad batch. If it was more expensive - I think I would be more annoyed. It's kinda like you get what you pay for. If it works well - awesome, if not - it wasn't a major investment. I am returning this item and thus far I have had no issues with the return process. I thought about exchanging it for another one - but I'm facing crunch time with medical school exams and I simply don't have the time and want to deal with it. 2 stars for: The price point, easy return, and the offer to exchange the product. 0 stars for: the hassle and it just not working as it should - especially that my USB had to be at a sensitive 15 degree wiggled angle for it to work. Attached is what I mean about the 15 degree wiggle. This was the ONLY way my MacBook Pro was able to see the card. I'll update accordingly. ... show more

    • So Far Not Windows 10 compatible unless you do work around.
So far from what I can see this is not Windows 10 compatible. I have sent a help ticket to support maybe I installed the drivers wrong or didn't need to install the CD we shall see I even tried to run this install with a windows 8 compatibility. Still nothing. I will update this review when I hear back from support. Its hard to believe that this product does not have windows 10 support since windows 10 has been out for over a year and 2 months now. I hope they help me resolve this I love all the features this dongle has. So far this is my errors. This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful. UPDATE They were able to make this work its a small work around but it works fine. I was hopeful that this adapter was 5.0GHZ but its only 2.4GHZ not an issue but I cannot get speeds over 72mbps. So far if they do a newer dongle that is AC I will be buying that one as well. So far I am rather surprised with the customer support they made sure that I was taken care of instead of forgotten. I want to thank them for this. I will be changing my review from 1 to 4 stars. Here is the work around. Sorry for the long waiting! We still haven't had the Official driver yet. However, HQ R&D has released a workaround to make it work without an updated driver. Please follow the FAQ below to do a driver update via Device Manager.
