I has a few other similar USB3 devices, and they all failed to work whenever I pluged them into a USB3 port. This one works every time whether I connect it to a PC or a MAC. The Ethernet port also works great.

This thing is awesome...! Works just GREAT with my multiple laptops/tablets! Particularly my 2 in 1 PC/Tablet, which does not have an Ethernet port to plug into - it really makes a big difference if I cannot use a WiFi connection, & a hard wired/Ethernet connection is available, or I am looking to use something faster than a WiFi connection because I might be downloading something? Also, it's super nice to be able to put 1, 2, or 3 USB 3.0 drives on this particular dongle, since I only have one USB 3.0 port on my laptops to begin with. Furthermore, this is a TP-Link product, & I am a HUGE fan/supporter of TP-Link products. TP-Link is one of the FIRST things I look for, when it comes to networking & such. It's just that good! My only nusance is that the USB 3.0 drives I plug into this Ethernet dongle, is that the drives get a tad hot while plugged into the dongle. Other than that, it works like a CHAMP off of my USB 3.0 port of my laptops/tablets! A very handy tool/device to have! ... show more

The on-board ethernet module on my motherboard died for whatever reason, so I purchased a cheap USB Ethernet adapter before, and it would work well for light loads, but would overheat and drop out when trying to download large files or programs, and took up a valuable USB 3.0 slot. I gave up on that, and got a wireless adapter, but the transfer speeds were not as fast as being plugged directly into the router (30-40mb/s). I finally caved and bought THIS unit the same time as a new TP-Link Modem/router combo, it works great, and I can have all my external drives plugged in at the same time. Downloaded a 40gb game without dropout at well over 100+ mb/s. Great Value! ... show more

Recently, while traveling I had poor WiFi reception in the hotel, and after getting his I was able to plug into the jack in the hotel room and my network connection was great.
