I love using ECO Style® gels on my naturally curly 3B/3C texture hair. For years, I used the ECO Style® gel with olive oil and loved it. When I saw there was a black castor & flaxseed oil style gel, I figured I would try it since I have been a longtime customer and fan of ECO Style® products. This gel, like the other products from this company’s hair styling line that I’ve tried, is great for moisturizing the hair, defining natural curls, provides excellent shine to the hair without weighing it down with a greasy feel, and does not flake after it is dry. Although the black castor & flaxseed gel is nourishing and conditioning to the hair, it is not effective in taming natural ethnic edges. From my experience, you will need a separate edge tamer in addition to this gel when using it to define your natural curls. When I used this gel on my hair edges, my curly baby hairs were popping with shiny moisture (which would be excellent for the rest of my hair), but for my edges, I needed those baby hairs to stay flat lol. This is not all bad; it is just not the look I was going for at the time. Again, this gel is an awesome curl definer and conditioner. Just be aware it will also define those cute little baby hairs you have too.

I like the fact that my hair feels soft after applying this gel. For a bout an hour or 2 hair looks hydrated and shiny but it won’t b long before the flyaways take over.

In theory I am really pleased with this gel. It smells incredible, and has great ingredients to keep your hair moisturized and to provide long term growth. But!!!! I will say, do not go into using this product expecting that it will provide a hold for your hair style. Compared to the other Eco Styler Gels (specifically the olive oil version) this gel does not provide any hold for your hair. I did get somewhat of a curl definition but it did not lay down my edges like other gels I’ve tried in the past. Also the product is a lot thicker than the other versions so a little goes a long way. I recommend this product for basic styling such as twist outs and wash a go’s and for the benefits it provides for your hair but if you want something that is going to hold a style or make your edges sleek all day, I’d look elsewhere.

I bought this product because of what it is about with the black castor, flaxseed oil, omega-3, vitamin E, & fiber that is good for having healthy hair. It does NOT have all that other additives that is BAD for your hair. Like most guys, I got real short hair. I usually like to damp my hair wet, then apply this ECO Gel. It keeps my hair in place and looking slick with the bit of shine to it. Even though knowing it rates itself as a "10 for superior hold", but to me it's an 8 or so because if somebody to mess your hair up quickly, it is possible because will not take much. Also, it is easy to wash out quickly. But overall, I like the Eco Style Gel, despite it does not have a little more firmness, like the Johnny B Style Gel does that I would use.
