Let me first say that EatSmart's Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale is not the first product that introduced me to this great company--the first product being the Precision Digital Bathroom Scale. Like many, I relied heavily on reviews that suggested it was a great product, and thankfully they were right. It was accurate, easy-to-use, and fashionable. Now that I purchased yet another EatSmart product I felt it was only fair that I got off my butt and wrote a review that this company much deserved. So here it goes. When you are health-conscious like myself, a kitchen scale is indispensable for cooking and thankfully EatSmart's Kitchen Scale can deliver on this need. When you receive the shipment in the mail the box contains the scale of your chosen color scheme covered in a plastic bag, an Instruction Manual that counts double as a "Guidebook to Calorie Counting", and two AAA batteries. I don't think it's a secret that many electronics sold today have the disclaimer "batteries not included". Anyone can attest to the fact that this can dampens their spirits when they are eager to try something out and have no batteries in the house or they have AAs but no AAAs. Thankfully EatSmart provides them. According to the manual two new AAA batteries will last for approximately 1 year under "moderate use" (less than three times daily). However the batteries provided are "trial" batteries and thus they are expected to last for a shorter length of time. After taking off the plastic cover the scale can be a little deceiving at first. It only weighs 10 ounces (yet has a weighing capacity of up to 11 Lbs or 5 kg) with dimensions of 8"x6"x1.5" and is accompanied by a digital screen and two button. However, it is easy-to-use and performs what it was built to do. The first button labeled "unit" allows you to measure in four units: pounds, ounces, grams, and kilograms. The second button is used for "On/Off" and the "Tare Function". The tare function allows you to automatically return the scale to zero when desired which enables you to subtract the weight of a plate or when you are weighing several items at once. The EatSmart's scale is accurate and can measure down to 1/100th of an ounce, although I highly doubt it will be necessary to weight something that small. Regardless, it is there when you need it. It is consistent in its measurement and best of all it comes with a 2 year warranty. The booklet included is 24 pages long; only 5 of which are devoted to the manual section (which is sufficient). The rest of the book, pages 6-24, are devoted to the calorie counting/calorie-factor section. I have not used this section (I'm not really into calorie counting) but for those who are it explains how it works and assigns a calorie-factor for many foods in various food groups. I am pleased with yet another purchase from EatSmart and I am confident anyone else who is looking for a kitchen scale will be as well. ... show more

This scale is exactly what you are looking for if you are baking, starting a diet, or just curious about how much your food weighs; indeed, if you are curious about how much anything weighs, up to 11 pounds. As stated it weighs in grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds. A little bit about that, in grams it weighs by each gram, if weighing in ounces, it is in on half hundredth ounce increments, in other words it goes from say 10.00oz to 10.05oz to 10.10oz. This is certainly accurate enough as 1/100th of an ounce is equivalent to a little more than a 1/4 of a gram. It was just a little disconcerting to see the numbers jump that way. The ability to tare the weight of a plate or bowl is necessary when using a kitchen scale and this item does it just fine. This ability can be used in two ways, you can either turn the scale on and once it is set, place your plate or bowl on the scale and press the ON/OFF-TARE button, which will zero the scale; or you can place the plate or bowl on the scale before you turn it on, in which case it self-zeros for the weight on it already. If you are adding several items in by weight, you can tare the scale between items so that you are weighing only the most recent item, certainly a versatile but unexpected bonus I hadn't thought of. The black and chrome scale is attractive and has a fairly small footprint, so you can actually leave it out on the counter. If your kitchen just would not fit with black and chrome, there are other color combinations available. The display is large and quite easy to read providing the item you have on it does not cover the numbers. A large plate or bowl will obscure your view of the display and you will need to find a different angle to view it in that case. The fact that it uses standard batteries cannot be overstated. AAA batteries can be found almost anywhere that sells standard batteries, not something you can say in reference to button type batteries. We had an analog kitchen scale for decades and it served us well, except for the whole cleaning, adjusting, multiple weighing routine that goes with a mechanical analog scale. The EatSmart Precision Pro Digital scale is light years improvement over what we were using and we are certainly satisfied with it. ... show more
